“Had a tire that wasn’t holding air and was going soft. A slow leak.
Called Town Fair Tire and was met with an automated voice. Waited 5 minutes on hold before I was connected with someone.
I asked how much it would cost to look at my tire and approximate price on a patch. Was told the service was free… I said “free? you’d patch it for free?”. They said, “well how much it costs depends on the issue…” and I said “oh so it isn’t free then…?”… they didn’t answer and they asked if I wanted an appointment. They were able to “squeeze me in” today at 3. They said the appointment would be “90 minutes long, give or take”.
Usual rigamarole you get when it comes to chains/corporate entities.
Feeling a bit disillusioned, I call up Al on the phone at this business. I give them the same spiel. “We can take you in immediately, we welcome walk ins” they say, and “a patch would definitely be under $40. We’ll take a look at it and have you in and out.”
The confidence, affordability, and direct line to the men working on my tires had me cancel my Town Fair appointment immediately.
I pull in and chat with Mike, a younger gentleman that worked on my tires as we chatted. I was allowed to look into the garage as he worked, and he walked me through exactly what was up with my tires. No patch needed. Just needed my rims brushed/cleaned as a spot of oxidation caused a weak seal between the rim and tire, causing a very slow leak.
Friendly guys, we blabbed the whole time… and Mike had my tire back on before I even realized he was finished, and was given an even lower price than the estimate. Was in and out in under a half hour. I asked to be charged a bit more so Al and Mike could get themselves a coffee.
How small businesses should be. Transparent, friendly, direct. Never had such a pleasant experience in any auto-adjacent shop. Support these guys, they’re great.

“I can't say enough good things about J&M Tire! First off, they were open on a Saturday, which was a huge plus. I was taken right in, and within an hour, I was back on the road. Rick and Ray were fantastic—both were incredibly helpful and professional.
Even though they couldn’t repair my tire and I had to purchase two new ones, I felt confident that it was the right decision. Ray even pointed out a potential issue with my lug nuts, which could have turned into a bigger problem down the road. I’m very grateful for their assistance and the peace of mind they provided.

“We went in to looking to buy our daughter her first vehicle for her 17th Birthday, it was a Monday afternoon at 3:30 we met with Shane who was Fantastic from the start , by 5pm and a few signatures later we had a great car, with a fantastic credit union loan (we have fair credit 670) and the next day she picked up her car!!!!!! “This is the place for you If you like to lay in the dirt with broken glass mixed in and random bolts digging into you back! There's a good selection of cars to pull parts yourself. Most of which is seized by rust, which is to be expected in CT, so bring WD-40 or PB blaster. Staff do the best they can to deal with the crazy people.”
