Had a tire that wasn’t holding air and was going soft. A slow leak.
Called Town Fair Tire and was met with an automated voice. Waited 5 minutes on hold before I was connected with someone.
I asked how much it would cost to look at my tire and approximate price on a patch. Was told the service was free… I said “free? you’d patch it for free?”. They said, “well how much it costs depends on the issue…” and I said “oh so it isn’t free then…?”… they didn’t answer and they asked if I wanted an appointment. They were able to “squeeze me in” today at 3. They said the appointment would be “90 minutes long, give or take”.
Usual rigamarole you get when it comes to chains/corporate entities.
Feeling a bit disillusioned, I call up Al on the phone at this business. I give them the same spiel. “We can take you in immediately, we welcome walk ins” they say, and “a patch would definitely be under $40. We’ll take a look at it and have you in and out.”
The confidence, affordability, and direct line to the men working on my tires had me cancel my Town Fair appointment immediately.
I pull in and chat with Mike, a younger gentleman that worked on my tires as we chatted. I was allowed to look into the garage as he worked, and he walked me through exactly what was up with my tires. No patch needed. Just needed my rims brushed/cleaned as a spot of oxidation caused a weak seal between the rim and tire, causing a very slow leak.
Friendly guys, we blabbed the whole time… and Mike had my tire back on before I even realized he was finished, and was given an even lower price than the estimate. Was in and out in under a half hour. I asked to be charged a bit more so Al and Mike could get themselves a coffee.
How small businesses should be. Transparent, friendly, direct. Never had such a pleasant experience in any auto-adjacent shop. Support these guys, they’re great.

Great service! Caught a full bolt in one of my tires, was referred to these guys and called them and they took care of me as soon as I pulled in. Were able to repair the tire in 20 minutes and were very polite and informative! Definitely recommend for anything tire related

The best place in Southington to get tires. This is a family owned and operated business. Honest, fair, and reliable. I bring all my vehicles here. I will never go anywhere else for tires. You will arrive as a customer but leave as friends.

125 miles into a 600 mile road trip, and we get a screw in our tire. We were able to inflate the tire and drive 5 minutes to Al Joy. They got us back on the road, and made it the easiest and most pleasant flat tire experience I have ever had.They are a family owned business, and they know their craft. They do the job the right way and produce a permanent repair. No shortcuts here. We had a great time chatting as they did the repair.
