Harbor Books is an independent, locally owned and operated bookstore that has been in business since 1988. It sells new and used books on all subjects in a small, cozy, neat, and organized space. The store is not very wide but is long and tall, with tightly-packed shelves holding a huge selection across every genre. It features an interesting nautical section and a wide selection of books on Katharine Hepburn, a lifetime Old Saybrook resident. It is also a source for local interest books for genealogists, historians, and visitors. The store carries a great selection of titles, including vintage and antique books, many in excellent condition and marked with a great price. There is a unique one-dollar bin for books on sale. Prices are written on the inside cover of books, and they are known for having excellent value. The store also has a display of scouting materials in the back, serving as the local supplier for Girl Scout items, and carries a unique line of Old Saybrook branded clothing. The staff is noted for being super nice and helpful. With its vast and varied collection, visitors often find themselves needing significant time to explore, potentially discovering special or unexpected books that feel like they were waiting just for them.
A wonderful place to find a new author or books by a favorite writer at a very good price.

We stopped in on our way out of ct. I got 2 books (new would be about $40) for $8, which was great. The store was small and cozy but very neat and organized clearly and the person who checked us out (Helen?) was super nice and helpful.
