I have been a customer of them since 1996, and I am told all the time they are swamped and I understand that. That shows me that they are honest, competent mechanics who know a thing or two about what they are doing. They are straightforward, and fix only what needs to be fixed however they do tell you when another part is beginning to have seen better days. The only way to deal with them is briefly describe what is going on with your car and SET AN APPOINTMENT to bring it in so you are in their queue. They will troubleshoot the problem in a reasonable time frame and tell you what needs to be done, They have been in business since 1951, or three generations, so they must be doing something right to be doing this well. I have recommended them to other people and they are the only people I would ever use.

I just made the mistake of towing my vehicle to Smitty's because I had previously used his station for repairs. Upon calling today, 24 hours after having my vehicle I was rudely told that I would have to wait until he had time to look at my vehicle. I was interrupting his schedule of previously made appointments with his preferred customers. Of course Gieco towed my vehicle and we are down to one car, my husband catches the train to NYC and I work in Wilton. I was rudely told that I must basically wait until he gets around to looking at it, possibly sometime up to 6pm today, they've had my car since 10am yesterday morning. Excellent customer service and rudeness on the phone by both Dave and associate. Sorry, but I am pretty bitter about not knowing when my car will be fixed, so I am held hostage by Smittys right now!!!!!!!!!!!

This place gives a new definition to the word '****** The men working there are incredibly rude... granted that's only when they aren't ignoring you. I wanted a gas fill. Simple enough but the nozzle wouldn't work. I went in 3 times to ask for help - there were no other customers at the time so being busy wasn't an issue. The first time the guy told me (after asking me what I had said twice), I needed to put in my card again. The second time, after once again saying, "what - what - what?", loudly as if I was something disgusting, I had to go back out and try again. I should have given up then. On the third time another man came out, 'to show what I need to do properly'. He stood and watched me do it, then yelled at me while managing a few eye rolls. He said I needed patience. Then he walked off in a huff exclaiming - 'God, are YOU kidding me??' I put in enough gas to get to Irvine station, where I should have gone in the first place. Last time I use these people - I think they take great pleasure in complete rudeness. Just in there's background required - I'm a 51 year old woman who's first language is English. I know how gas gets in a car, and I know how to speak clearly... I maybe what I need to learn is to stay away from men of this caliber.

This is the only place I take my car for a repair. I have a Toyota with over 100k miles and they've kept it running. Toyota wanted to charge me over $2000 for a repair and I took it to these guys and they saved me over $1600! I can't complain, before you go, call and make an appointment. They'll always give you a lead time and before they start work, you'll get a call for a quote.

Rang to get a quote on a part and the guy on the phone was rude and said call back in over 3 hours for a simple quote on a part. Never taking any of my cars here if a simple quote is that difficult.

Do not recommend. Made the mistake of bringing my car to Smitty's for a simple oil change. Several days after, noticed my car was leaking oil. Brought to someone who checked it and said wrong gasket had been used, and it was leaking badly & needed to be repaired ASAP. Tried to get in next day, Dave the owner was SUPER RUDE about fitting me in, ironic as it was his mechanic that compromised my (almost brand new) car. I soon thereafter recalled that years ago, they almost let me drive off their lot with a broken brake cable (I had brought the vehicle in for a brake REPAIR). Again, DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I never really write reviews for anything but I felt the need to because Smitty's has done a great job servicing our cars over the past 3 years. They are honest and always find a way to resolve issues at a fair price. They are also very timely and their hours make getting repairs easy.

These guys are like an old time garage where they know exactly what they're doing, and they really do give a damn about their customers. This is a family business, which means they take pride in their work because they have pride in their heritage. I would trust Smitty's with just about any job.

I took in a 2000 accord and they totally misdiagnosed the issue. Car had engine light on and it broke down in front of there shop. They kept car over two weeks without any results other then charging me 800 dollars for water pump and timings belt. I told them two three times its most likely needs a tune up. Owner told me I was not mechinal wise to car. Make long story short car went to Honda of Westport needed tune up and oil change problem solved. Stay away from these guys

We got a flat tire and found Smitty's garage online. The person who answered the phone was very polite. Sean came out within 15 minutes and changed our tire very efficiently. He patiently answered my son's numerous questions about lug nuts, donut tires, car jacks, rims, etc. Very professional and reasonably priced.
