A staple of Newtown charm and delicious food, this place is the best. Always worth a visit. And the prices are reasonable too!
Parking: Somewhat limited parking out front, but I'm almost always able to find a spot, and there is more parking in back if you go around the theater.

I found a piece of hair in my food and asked them to remake my sandwich so I gave it back and I watched as they pulled the piece of hair off, wrapped it back up and hand it to me! I said I asked for a fresh one and they took it back again left it for a few minutes and then handed it back to me again! I couldn't believe my eyes and they were laughing on top of that! Ended up leaving without food and will never be back!

I'm pretty sure they are the same owners as the ones from Misty Vale Deli, which is another great place in Newtown for a quick bite. However, I enjoy the atmosphere of The General Store more, and they are definitely more generous when it comes to sauces on your sandwiches. Did I mention that the prices are great! Bacon egg and cheese is like 3.50$, a rare price to see now adays. If you're in Newtown and just want a sandwich, make your way over here!

Newtown General Store in Newtown, CT, is absolutely fantastic! The store has a wide variety of products, all of which are high quality and reasonably priced. Additionally, Newtown General Store makes it incredibly easy to prepare your own iced coffee, which is a huge plus for coffee lovers! They have all the necessary ingredients readily available and the process is super simple and convenient. The staff are always friendly and helpful, making the shopping experience a pleasure. Additionally, the store has a quaint, nostalgic feel to it that makes it a unique place to shop. Highly recommend!

This place is great - a local gem. Sandwiches are all reasonably priced and you get quite a lot for the price you pay. Staff are also friendly and helpful. The shop is a nice place to sit (both indoors and outdoors) and enjoy a sandwich among other things (they have snacks as well as picnic type salads). Always great for a quick bite

My daughter and I found this place while in town shopping for Prom dresses (Sabrina Style- great boutique). It has a nice, historic atmosphere and they offer a decent sized menu of breakfast items and a wide variety of sandwiches.That was in June. It is now July and we've returned several times for their great sandwiches. We are currently hooked on their sizzlin' sirloin steak sandwich with melted Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing. It's amazing. I took half of mine back home for my husband and as he took a bite, his eyes got big and he said "where the heck did you get this sandwich?! I think it's the best steak sandwich I've ever had!" So there you go.

Ordered a chicken cutlet on a hard roll with lettuce tomato mayo and hot sauce. Cutlet was lukewarm and was not crunchy on the outside, very soft and mushy coating (and no, hot sauce was not touching it). Went to the register to pay and no one noticed me even tho two people were standing there. Worst sandwich I have every had!

Superb atmosphere and the staff were all smiling and helpful. The prices were good, there was a great selection of sandwiches and desserts.
