I love our Big Y Store. Debbie the manager has made this grocery store work in a way that makes it a pleasure to shop. I hate grocery shopping, and this Big Y makes it a pleasure. The cashiers are wonderful. I love the flower shop, the staff in the store always go out of their way to find exactly what you need. Thank you Big Y! Thank you all for all you do! Nanci D

This store in Newtown is a soulless corporate box that sells "food" and other non-food stuff to mass generic consumers. There's no sense of passion for the food business, there's no sense of knowledge of quality food. It is all about mass movement of commodity. Nothing here feels particularly fresh or special. It is geared for the average consumer with no particular need for high quality cuisine. If you make peanut butter sandwiches, buy pizza for dinner some nights and like to serve frozen dinners or spaghetti out of a can, this place is perfect for you. Furthermore, the security system is all over the place, cameras everywhere. The management doesn't particularly interact with the shoppers. The training of the staff doesn't speak to being helpful or friendly. Definitely the opposite of what you experience at Trader Joe's for example, where they comment on a purchase or make recommendations. It's not a particularly good place to shop and I always leave here feeling empty. The Bethel store is simply a larger version of the exact same thing.
