We've recently moved to Connecticut and were looking for a supermarket that was affordable and had a large selection. Price Chopper Newington has been the closet thing to the large supermarket we're used to. The selection was amazing, the prices very affordable. The best meat and vegetable selection I've seen in Connecticut. The meat was very high quality and the best pricing in Hartford County.

2 stars only because there are still a handful of people we like working there, who are genuinely helpful. So this has been the running joke between my son and I for the last 2 weeks when we want a quick bite before we shop, we grab a slice of pizza. Well, on this first day two weeks ago, there was a few chickens on the rotisserie, but no pizza whatsoever. Last week, of course when you don't want pizza, the showcase is half full. We went today, and I needed something in my system, so we went to grab a couple of slices of pizza, as the showcase was fully stocked, but no one was around to help. There was one woman working the deli, and she had 5 people in line. There were 2 employees who were sitting in the dining area trying to not make eye contact. One woman was standing within 10 feet of us and not once did she ask if we needed help or anything. I get it, different department (produce), but whatever happened to going above and beyond for your customers? After about 5 minutes, our line started to grow, so we left to get what we needed to shop for. I don't know what happened to the customer service here, cause it was superb years ago. This place seems to be understaffed all the time. Businesses can stop using the excuse that people don't want to work. Hire more people! Give them a chance! Sounds like poor management.

Can you not provide a smoking area for your employees away from the front entrance? For example... at the back of the building where the trucks load. It's terrible that they all have to smoke on the bench right in front and I have to walk though their cloud of second hand smoke every time to enter the store. It makes for a bad bad look (and smell).

I actually like this place but there's a couple things that keep me from giving it a high rating. One is the lack of actual cashiers. I don't care what "all the other places are doing", you're a supermarket and need to have at least a couple cashiers. I'm disabled and it's hard for me to use the self checkout (plus the touchscreen is overly complicated and asks you a million extra questions). If you can't keep cashier lanes open I'll find somewhere that can. Also, stop charging for bags, with the current economy that's just wrong. Lastly, the employee smoking area is right in front of the store causing me to walk through employee cigarette smoke every time I come here and that's bad for customers.

That store is really nostalgic which isn't really a surprise considering I used to go to Price Chopper when they had a location in Vernon and it had that interior decor before that store closed down a while ago.A lot of items are expensive such as Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream soda. You can buy those at Big Y for cheaper prices. ShopRite overall has even greater rate of lower prices on most of everything that they sell here.Moldy pasta sauce in an aisle?!? One can expect to see anything moldy on a food anywhere in a store on occasion but who cares.Pharmacy permanently closed down cuz I saw it totally covered and no pharmacy signs so that's not good for those who had prescriptions here.Otherwise, things went alright with purchase and customer service.

where do I start? The bottle guy with the bad leg is the worse employee and seems to assume he's invincible. Management needs to put him in his place but I don't think that's going to happen. He's just overall rude seems that he may have some issues, even though that's not an excuse.Today, I go to the deli and there's some new chick there smh. I ask for 10 slices of this meat (pointing directly at it). She saying I don't know which one, you gotta say the whole name (and of course it's a name no one can pronounce, but that's not the issue). I'm practically banging my finger on the dang glass, it was unbelievable. I thought she was joking or I was being pranked. After no movement from her while I stood there shocked. I walked away without any cold cuts smh. I continued shopping for my other items, I then headed back to see if there was another butcher there and happen to run into a guy and I asked if he was the store manager, he said yes. I then explained the situation to him, he told me to come on over and he'll handle it. By this time the rude butcher girl was nowhere to be found and one of the original ladies was there to serve me, pleasant as can be as usual. Thanks to the manager, he saved the day cause they almost lost a loyal customer. I'm still in total disbelief. normally they'll tell you the deals, name the brands etc. This girl had no clue if I could read or pronounce words properly ... all while I'm pointing at exactly what I wantEd. incredible, I'm having second thoughts
