I usually am in support of small businesses and would not write a negative review. but damn, the customer service here sucks. Employee on the phone hung up on me because he said he didn't understand what I was saying..I was in the process of pulling up google translate so that I can translate what im saying to Spanish but he just hung up. Unprofessional AF.I have worked with many Mexican businesses around New Haven with exceptional service. Even with minimal english, the staff at those businesses will go above and beyond to understand you and meet your needs, Unlike this place. what a disaster

Normal mexican tienda. I only wished they had more chili (I asked if they had green chili and the clerk pointed to jalapeños)

Friendly little neighborhood store with about the range of products you'd expect to find at a similarly sized deli -- but Mexican! If you're looking for a full carniceria and panaderia, this is not that -- try the C-Town in Fairhaven. This is the store where after you bought your taco meat at the butcher down the block, here you're going to get your tortillas (the blue corn ones are magnificent), your spices, and some beans. There is a small refrigerated section that I think has cheese. If you want lettuce and such, haul yourself around the block to one of the delis on Orange Street. There's a freezer up front with paletas, which in summer is extremely welcome. There are lots of snacks, including a wide range of Bimbo pastries in two-packs, compact but comparable in usefulness to QT in Arizona. (These are the Mexican Twinkie-equivalent and so much better.) It's equivalent in size and scope to the Asian markets on the same street, so if this is your moment for making Korean-fusion tacos, State Street is where to do it.

While waiting for our table at Tavern on State, we popped into Tlaxcala Grocery store across the street. It's a little corner bodega overflowing with spices, dried goods, cans and lots of Mexican snacks!! Everything is super reasonably priced. We walked out with a pack of blue corn tortillas, chicharrones, a mixed nut bar, peanuts and dried roses (spice) all for $8!! I loooved the blue corn tortillas. The one pack has lasted us for weeks and we had breakfast tacos on repeat. The chicharrones were far superior to any I'd ever had. These came with packets of salsa and each piece had a fat cap! Stop in the next time you're in the New Haven area!

They were very kind and helpful. Had everything I was looking for and more. She went as far as to help me with a recipe to be able to cook my chicken. Will definitely continue shopping here.
