I've lived at The Novella for about 4 months, and it's been awesome! First off, the location is great – right near downtown, surrounded by many great places to eat. Whether I'm in the mood for something fancy or just a quick bite, everything's just a walk away. The apartment itself is super cozy and just nice to be in with thoughtfully designed rooms. For me, the best part is the apartment management team. From leasing to maintenance, every interaction has been a pleasure. The staff are not only professional but also genuinely caring.

I’ve lived here for 2 years. Overpriced, cheap chic. Management/trio is horrendous. Rude and unaccommodating. Ads for ridiculous events and treat tenants like children. There was a rooftop fire over the weekend and we were not apprised of events nor people’s safety. Just “rooftop closed indefinitely.” Mind you, it had just re-opened for a short time. Here’s to a summer enjoying it!Lastly, the hallways wreak of trash since they have a “mandatory trash valet.” Not only is it disgusting but also unsafe and a blatant fire hazard. Would stay away!

We’ve lived at the Novella for almost a year now (we are spending one year in New Haven). The building is well-maintained and extremely well-managed. Maintenance is lightning fast at responding to any issues, and management is well-accommodating to our requests. Most residents seem to be grad students and medical residents. Compared to other similar luxury apartments we’ve lived in, the Novella’s floor plans are significantly larger. Both the bedrooms and living spaces accommodate a fairly decent amount of furniture, with enough space to create separate living and dining spaces, no furniture spared. The finishes are pretty standard for a mid-rise luxury-ish building: nothing is particularly impressive, everything feels 5-10 years old, but the bathroom counters are huge and have massive, deep drawers, which is a big plus. A few things to keep in mind: 1. The windows are huge (7+ feet tall and 100 inches wide). Since we have three of them facing south and two facing east, even with two layers of curtains, the amount of heat coming through can sometimes be almost unbearable. In the winter, if it’s sunny, we didn’t need any heat, but in the summer, it can get nightmarishly hot. Our second bedroom was consistently 4-6 degrees hotter than the rest of the apartment. While the large windows are really nice to have, I wish there was one l-way UV window tint or something applied to the exterior. 2. The blinds that come with the units are those flimsy metal office building blinds. 3. The toilets have a particularly weak flush and are very prone to clogging. Not sure if the water pump can be upgrade or it’s just the toilets themselves. Shower water pressure is also extremely weak. 4. The floors are coated in a cheap varnish that makes every single scuff mark show. They’re also shiny and slippery when wet. The varnish starts to dissolve if the floors stay wet. I’m sure it’s easier for the property to just re-varnish the floors after every tenant, but a good resistant vinyl plank floor without a coating would do better, as in many other buildings. The vinyl flooring underneath the varnish would actually be better on its own. 5. There are no guest parking spots, and the parking spaces are extremely narrow. It is very difficult, even for skinny people, to squeeze out of a normal-sized car.Altogether, we’ve enjoyed our time at the Novella and would recommend it to others.

Kind, courteous staff, who's willing to help anyway they can. Not too "stuff", elegant with a modern flare. Has a newly renovated lobby that's more lounge than front desk. Much more homely vibe ??.

I can’t say enough about this leasing office. I am a widower in Charlotte, NC who has a son at Yale University. We were looking for a 6 month lease and they were one of the few who offered such term. Not only did Kristen (respectfully won’t give her last name) work super hard to accommodate us, she was more than patient, more than understanding and above all professional. Whether we are approved to move in or not, my overall experience was excellent.

I lived in The Novella for almost two years and it was a very positive experience. My apartment was modern and spacious and the building facilities were always kept in great condition. The property manager (Craig) is incredibly nice, accommodating, and very easy to work with. And the building facilities staff (especially George) is very responsive and kind and really works to resolve whatever issues you're having. It's also a great apartment building for dog owners!

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience living at The Novella for the last three years. I found the amenities to be particularly useful - a washer/dryer in the unit, a nice gym area, open common area, a cozy movie theater (ideal for hosting events with friends), and a quiet conference room and two study rooms with ample natural lighting. The rooftop on the 6th floor was also a nice retreat when some fresh air and a nice view of downtown New Haven were desired. And, the building is run by kind managers and a responsible maintenance team! Highly recommend The Novella to anyone who wants a fabulous living experience in the downtown area!
