Cheryl has been doing my hair color and cut for over 6 years and I can't say enough about her skill, attention to detail, and sense of color and style. She took the time with me to find out what I was looking for and how I want my hair to make me feel, AND what kind of daily hair care routine I'm able to support. My haircut is completely tailored to my needs - it suits me, it feels great, it looks stylish, the color compliments my coloring, and it is easy to take care of. She is always open to exploring new trends and ideas and will give her honest opinion on whether they will suit you or your lifestyle. The vibe in the salon is chill and welcoming. I highly recommend not getting advanced hair coloring services here.I spent $770 ($600 + $170 in gratuity because that’s around 25% and I was raised to always leave gratuity) at this salon to get an overall darker base color and a soft balayage along with a shaping trim. What I received wasn’t worth $600! The base color is patchy and the balayage wasn’t blended at all. I wasn’t super happy with it when I left the salon but I was too uncomfortable to say anything since the owner is one who doesn’t take criticism very well (the comment she left down below is exhibit A)This place is meant for simple hair cuts and they clearly can’t do anything more advanced. I didn’t notice how unfortunate my hair was until a few days later after I washed it and tried straightening it. Because they hid the choppy balayage with curls.They do offer touch ups if you’re not satisfied within a week, which I tried doing. But as you can see down below the owner posted a negative novel about me so I was super uncomfortable with going in for the touch up. When I called to cancel the touch up appointment the owner shouted at me over the phone saying I was a liar on this review and that she has a lawyer to back her up. I literally just hung up and started crying.I highly do not recommend this place.Service: Balayage

Being a new customer there isn't the way to go. Everyone who gives this place great comments are long time regulars. I had a hairstyle there that was completely frizzy. I had photos of everything I wanted. The stylist glanced at it and said she'd be fine. She used a tiny brush even though I suggested that she shouldn't. When it was done, the stylist insisted that it looked great. OMG, the Emperor's New Clothes much?! I felt like I was being gas lit. LOL. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to get it redone. Anyone with integrity wouldn't have said it looked good. Stupid me, I paid what I owed and tipped. I don't want to single anyone out, but I can it was not the owner Sheryl. However, she wasn't much help in resolving the situation. Anyway, If you're a regular, you're probably fine here. If you're looking for a new salon, go somewhere else!

Eye would have used their services but the receptionist judged my hair to be dark and coarse without even seeing my hair........ Eye was wearing a hood the entire time. She quoted me a price on dying my hair without seeing the color of my hair but speculating she'll need to dye/bleach 4 times @85$each..... $340. My hair is short, curly, and black.... Eye just wanted the back half of my hair dyed. Then she goes on to ask me if my loc was a clip on.... She got me fiery and eye don't recommend nothing but the Karma she deserves!!!! She ruined a part of my day... Eye discovered ? because of her looks she's miserable.... she should try doing her own hair. Eye will be sure to pass by and show her grandness on my hula hoop with my dyed hair?‼️‼️ Eye didn't deserve to be treated the way she treated me at the door...... Never ever let evil people in your coil... your hair!! She did me a favor... Eye played myself even trying to spend a dollar in such a judgemental.....unwelcoming salon.

Cheryl was fantastic! Great customer service, delightful conversation, and wonderfully informative about haircare. I have long, fine hair and it was cut perfectly :)

This was an extremely overpriced ($80 before tip) haircut for what it was. I showed a reference video with a very curved bottom that came to a point in the middle. I clearly stated that I wanted the haircut to be very rounded and not straight across at the bottom. My hair was cut and then dried without the chance to look at the back. I was ushered out. When I got home, it turned out that the bottom was completely straight across, just with pieces that were shorter in the front. For what was a $100 haircut with tip, this is really not okay. I just made a special trip from Brooklyn to New Haven just so Katy could do my hair I've lived all over the place and gone to a bunch of salons that have really varied in how blonde they go with my hair... usually after 6 weeks there's a clear line of my roots through (let alone my hair will dry out or get frizzy from over-treating it). Somehow when I go to Katy this is all avoided (??) My hair looks very natural. Even as it grows out, it somehow blends. highly recommend!

Cheryl was wonderful. Karma was the only salon that would take me on such short notice. I had fried and melted my hair with a Revlon straightener. She was kind enough to remove most of the damage. I will forever appreciate Cheryl's kindness.Service: Haircut

Sheril is amazing both with color and haircuts. I'm a brunette naturally but now a golden blond. It is very hard to lift hair but Sheril is a chemist and knows how to create the perfect hair color and look natural. I have been to salons in Greenwich and NYC and Sheril is the best. Can't get the right color? Go to Sheril she will magically get you the color you want.

I’m new to New Haven, and desperately needed a haircut after almost 2 years without a professional one. I booked an appointment at Karma and was very satisfied with my experience. Katy was friendly and gave me exactly what I asked for. My hair looks and feels great and the price point was very reasonable. I’ll be back!

Karma is great salon, and I have been seeing Cheryl for over six years. I love the salon and my cut and color from Cheryl so much that since moving to Hartford, I still drive down to get my hair done there. I feel so relaxed there like going to a spa. I have been going there many years, and I was nervous about going to get my hair done during COVID, but Cheryl explained to me all of the protections they are taking to keep us all safe while in her salon. Some of the protections include not having anyone inside the salon until their chair is ready for them, no people waiting in the waiting area. The number of stylists and customers is purposefully reduced to limit interaction. During my last appointment it was only me, Cheryl, and one other stylist in the space while I was there. There are plexiglass walls installed between the chairs and everyone is masked in the space. I have been to the salon three times in the past seven months and so far I have had a good experience and always felt safe coming in. Because this is one of the few places I go during COVID, I look forward to going in, and it still feels like going to a spa.

I have been going to Cheryl for 10+ years for hair cuts and many different colors. She is an absolute professional. Seeing how Karma has handled the pandemic just underscores this. I’ve been back 3 times since March. Karma feels clean, distanced, careful, and safe. Not to mention the consistently amazing cuts and colors. In this dumpster fire of a year, getting some hair self-care at Karma has been a welcome respite. ❤️

I saw Brook yesterday after spending months being totally bored with my hair. I loved how she took the time to figure out what I would realistically want to deal with in a cut and style. She was so knowledgeable about the products the Salon carries, which smell amazing by the way! In the end I got an awesome cut and some tips on styling, and I’m incredibly happy that I went here. Best haircut I’ve gotten in a while!
