The Whalley Avenue Stop & Shop is horrible. When I was in there today someone was actually eating directly of the self-serve hot food at the deli. Also, the shelves are poorly stocked as is the bakery and the whole place is just not clean.

The manager, Elizabeth Vitale, left me a message, basically saying that it's my problem now and I should try to get help from my bank. I returned her call and she insisted that Stop and Shop had no responsibility. I gave customer service all the evidence that they needed. The receipt showing that I ended up paying cash and a print out showing that $92.65 was taken out of my bank account twice.

I don't know why it has so many subpar reviews but I thought it was great! Finally a *normal, large supermarket* (not a quaint little food store with limited options and exorbitant prices) with a huge selection of foods and prices clearly displayed by each item. I really missed such regular supermarkets during my stay in New Haven...this was one of the few.I came here several times while I lived in the area, and particularly liked their pies, potato and egg salads, sauces and salads, and fruits (the pomegranates when they had them were delicious!) I ate a lot healthier thanks to living close to this supermarket for a bit :)

Been going there for years. I know what to expect when I walk in there. But I wasn't prepared for the attitude I got from the young gentleman (Imagine a Bone thug in harmony, without the street cred or clout as if that's saying much)behind the deli who asked me what I wanted and then proceeded to text on his phone. When I go someplace and spend my hard-earned money I don't expect to be treated like an inconvenience. I'm from the same streets as this kid and I would whoop his ass, but I'm just tired of these disrespectful tik tok baby shit soft wannabe gangsters whom really needed parents when they had the chance

New Haven is a food desert, and this is the best it has to offer. Unfortunately, that is the only good thing I can say about this store, as it pales in comparison to nearby Stop and Shops such as the one in Amity. The produce here is especially lacking, and it at times seems to be actively encouraging the consumption of unhealthy food simply by virtue of there being no other options in the store, regardless of current supply chain issues. If there were any better stores nearby, this would get one star.

Today when my wife and I entered Stop & Shop, there was a long announcement on the PA system about the importance of wearing masks, and of wearing them properly. Of course, people don't like being lectured to, but it's a public service and I'm glad they do it. The thing is, as I walked around the store, I saw multiple customers not wearing masks, a few of them coughing profusely, and no-one asked them mask-up or leave the premises. I said something about the worst offender to a store employee, whom I hoped would tell a manager, but I'm pretty sure nothing was done, since the person continued to walk around unmasked, continuing to cough (I could hear even when separated by aisles). I think if one's going to have a zero-tolerance mask policy, it's critical to enforce the policy strictly.
