Picking your own apples is a fun experience. If you haven't tried Mutsu/ Crispin apples, then you're missing out. There were plenty of apples left on the trees all within arms reach after moving branches out of the way. Some of the apples weighed over 1lb each‼️Yum, yum.?

**Dropping from 3 stars to two. Gave them another shot bc I was passing thru. A grumpy old lady with short gray hair was manning the booth. She was very rude. Yikes. No more.**Used to be top notch, but not since they went to ‘pay before you pick.’ The problem is that 1) they open varieties for picking a bit before they are actually ripe, and 2) they keep rows open that are long picked over. Neither would be an issue if you didn’t have to commit to buying a bag before picking - in the past you could simply see that there was nothing worth picking and leave. Now you don’t have that option - you are forced to pay in advance. Please go back to paying by weight after you pick.

Let me tell you about this awesome spot, Lyman Orchards! It is the ultimate family hangout. You've got a ton of fresh fruit galore, and it's the kind that practically bursts with flavor – a real treat for your taste buds. If you've got kids, they're in for a blast! There's so much fun stuff for them to do, it's like a paradise for little adventurers. In my opinion the best part is the pumpkin patch. You can pick the perfect pumpkin, whether it's for carving, decorating, or baking those delicious pumpkin pies. The options are endless. They don't just stop at pumpkins though; they've got this farm store that's like a treasure trove. You've got to get your hands on their cider – it's like autumn in a cup – and the donuts are heavenly. It's the kind of place that feels like a warm, welcoming hug from the countryside. So, if you're planning a day out with your crew, Lyman Orchards is the go-to spot. Fresh goodies, endless pumpkin options, and a farm store that's basically foodie paradise – what more could you ask for? It's a total win for family fun and food enthusiasts! There is also plenty of outdoor seating with great views!

Lyman Orchards is a fantastic family destination, especially during the fall season. With it's farm store, corn maze, and petting zoo, it offers a wide range of activities that cater to young children. The kettle popcorn is a highlight, offering a tasty and satisfying snack. The staff here are friendly and welcoming, which enhances the overall experience. It is a wonderful place to spend a day with your children, providing entertainment, delicious treats, and a taste of the countryside, making it an excellent choice for a fall outing.

We go here every year because there is no better way to get freshly grown fruit.I usually go whenever they have pick your own fruit, it's a good way to pick your own and making sure that you get what you want. They have all types of fruit to pick, for this particular review, we went for apples, and I have to say, it is a great experience, on top of spending quality time with family.

Wish I could give zero stars for how bad our experience was just now at the pick your own pumpkins. There were no wagons offered so we had to haul 6 large pumpkins down the hill on our own. After purchasing all the pumpkins we bought ciders and I asked if I could have a bag because we had all the pumpkins and ciders to haul back to the car. The girl said no and so I asked if I could purchase a one of the Apple bags to which she said, “you want to buy it for $14?” I just laughed and walked away.So we spend over $100 here and we can’t even get a bag? This place is a joke. Will definitely not be back, much better places in CT.

This review is only for pick-your-own.If I were reviewing based on prior years (prior to 2023), I'd give a five-star review. They generally have a good variety of apples and always a plentiful supply. This year, however, there appears to be some issues with some of the varieties - particularly the Gala, Honeycrisp, Macoun and MacIntosh. You could tell that many of the trees were dealing with some sort of illness or fungus. The Gala apples were either very small or significantly blemished. That does happen from time to time with orchards but Lyman should have notified visitors of this before selling bags that proved to be difficult to fill.

If you're looking for some fall family fun, you need to check out Lyman Orchards in Middlefield! As far as fall activities, they pretty much have it all. First off is the Apple Barrel Market, where you can purchase fresh produce, locally-sourced dairy items, baked goods, jellies, sauces, etc. They also have a deli, and if nothing else you need to buy a few freshly-made apple cider donuts (they have regular and glazed) as well as a bottle of apple cider itself. If you're going on a weekend in October though, be prepared to wait in line just to enter the store... it gets crazy!Surrounding the Apple Barrel Market is a patio with seating, and there's also an outside window for ice cream and another with food to-go. Behind the market is the corn maze, which has a different theme every year (this year it's Wizard of Oz). Use the map to find your way through the maze, and they also have themed clues to help you find your way out. Once you finish, you'll get your much-deserved "I Survived the Maze" sticker. In addition to the market, Lyman Orchards also has huge pick-you-own fields with everything from apples to berries to pumpkins and more! I always go here to get my pumpkin right from the patch. Lyman Orchards was actually voted the best pick-your-own farm in CT!Overall a CT staple and a great spot to visit, especially in the fall!

THE ATTACK OF THE BEES (or wasps). There were lots of flying buggers on the baked goods and outside patio. The reviews were right. Don't bring the kiddos here. Other than that it was pretty cool. Many things to do on the weekend such as horse carriage riding, animal feeding, and corn maze.

Pick your own peaches and sunflowers! Paid $17 for 1/2 peck of peaches. I picked mostly the “coral star” ones and they were delicious! Fun way to spend a summer afternoon!

We had a great time picking apples at Lyman Orchards. We relaxed and enjoyed apple cider, apple cider donuts, and other delicious baked goods at the market. The cheese Danish was fantastic!

I actually went to the orchard to pick apples, not to the Apple Barrel. Staff was very nice and helpful in directing to the different Apple varieties. I picked Macintosh apples. Trees had many but many had strange swirly alien looking marks in them near bruises. Never saw this before. Apples tasted amazing, nothing like a fresh picked apple! My only complaint is how they do things now. Rather than getting bags to fill and paying after you have to pay ahead. I paid $14 for a 1/4 peck which is pricey and you don't get many.
