Scheduled a makeup appointment for my graduation day a month in advance. The day before my appointment, my assigned makeup artist called me to confirm and asked me to send her pics of my desired makeup look. I even decided to have them curl my hair, which I was willing to pay extra for. The day of my appointment (and a few hours before my graduation), I get a call while I’m standing outside of the location waiting for it to open. My appointment was scheduled for 10am, and that’s the time that the store opens. I get a call at 9:55am from an Ulta associate telling me that the makeup artist can’t make it because she had an emergency. 5 minutes before my appointment. A part of me wanted to show some sort of sympathy because I was told that the makeup artist had to go to the hospital. But, I was not able to do that because the only thing running through my mind was “omg, my graduation is in three hours and I don’t have a backup!”. Also, the associate that called said that the makeup artist had came into work but had to leave in order to go to the hospital, and that she had “just left”. Unless they have an entrance towards the back of the store specifically for employees, I didn’t see anyone exit out of the main entrance door, and I had been standing outside for at least 10minutes waiting for them to unlock the door. I asked if anyone else could do my makeup and hair, to which I was told “No, not here. But if I put you on a brief hold, I can call around to see if another location can do it for you.” I waited on hold for 15mins before the associate came back and said someone could provide my services at the Hamden location. I was slightly relieved, but the whole point of me making the appointment at this location was because it’s literally 3 mins away from my house, and I was intending to leave from there and head to Hartford right after, because that’s where my graduation was held. Going to Hamden put me further out of my way (it’s a 20-25min drive to Hamden from Meriden), but nonetheless I sped down there so I could get my stuff done before 1:00. When I arrived at the Ulta in Hamden, the associates apologized for the inconvenience and couldn’t believe that this is what I had to deal with on a day that was such a special occasion for me. In the end, I was able to get my hair and makeup done (my makeup look did not come out how I wanted it, but at that point, I had to take what I could get), and I just barely made it to my graduation on time after having to drive to Hartford from Hamden (a 40-45min drive). I definitely will never be booking an appointment at this Ulta, or any Ulta for that matter, ever again. This issue caused me so much stress and anxiety on a day that was supposed to be the least of my worries. I’m not sure if the makeup artist was actually sick or not, but regardless, calling someone to cancel their appointment 5mins before the scheduled time is not okay.

Absolutely sucks this is the third time in a year where I’ve made appointments & they tell me they would have time to do all people and they cancelled! So unprofessional! They need people who know what they’re talking about on the phone before booking appointments & canceling a week before an event ! Worst customer service experience ever !

Placed an online order for pickup. I get home and realize at 730 that I only received two out of three of my products. I called the plainville store to let them know. They told me in order to get the last product (that I already paid for) I have to come back before they close at 8. I explained to the employee that I live two towns away and have a newborn to put to sleep. She told me it has to be that day and that I need to make it there in a half hour. With gas being almost 5$ a gallon and a newborn to put to sleep. You would think they’d be understanding or even care since it was their mistake. What a joke. I’ll NEVER step foot into that ulta again.
