Accused me of stealing because they only put one sticker on the seafood I was purchasing instead of two. Left me waiting forever while they checked with security and seafood that it was bagged that way. A simpler solution would be to just weigh it. Don’t like being treated like this. Sick of the discrimination at Big Y. Maybe train your staff better before insulting customers. Don’t think I’ll be back.

I am a delivery driver for online app. I am at this store frequently to shop and deliver for customers. Today I ended up swiping my personal credit card BY MISTAKE for shop and delivery order instead of swiping credit card provided to me by online delivery company. I requested customer service if they can please make a refund to the same credit card used for payment (my personal credit card) and then I would have re checked out items using company credit card. Their customer service department didn't do anything to help me. I could have shown them automated email from my personal credit card company as a proof that payment was made by my personal credit card.

Big Y consistently offers the best selection and the best prices of any major grocery store in Connecticut, and they also source a lot of produce from Connecticut grown farms!

Big Y is great. All the selections you would expect at a supermarket. Plus, prepared hot and cold take out food. And, the self serve checkout machine didn't malfunction like it tends to do at one of their competitors.

Dear Big Y Customer Service,
I am writing to share a concern regarding my repeated experiences at the self-checkout in one of your stores. While I generally enjoy shopping at Big Y, the staff have even gone above and beyond in the past, such as when my wallet was secured and returned to me after leaving it in a cart. I’ve noticed an ongoing issue that makes me feel uncomfortable and unfairly treated.
On multiple occasions, I have felt profiled and singled out by certain older female employees while using self-checkout. Despite ringing up my items openly and having nothing to hide, I often notice them watching me more closely than other customers, walking the aisle only once I begin scanning, and hovering as if I am about to steal. Today was particularly frustrating: with only three items, one woman approached me unprompted, pressed buttons on the register, and rushed me through my transaction, even though I had not asked for assistance. The experience made me feel disrespected and treated like a criminal over $14 worth of fruit.
In the end, I left my items at the register and went elsewhere to shop. For comparison, I do not encounter this kind of treatment at other stores such as ShopRite or Costco, where I feel like a valued customer rather than a suspect.
I want to be clear: I truly value Big Y, and I continue to shop here often. However, this repeated behavior leaves me questioning whether I should avoid self-checkout altogether just to prevent being profiled. If the expectation is that certain customers are directed to regular cashier lines instead, please let me know.
I hope my feedback is taken seriously, because I would prefer to continue being a loyal Big Y customer without feeling watched or judged. Thank you for your time.
