“For a small market they’re take out meals are amazing. The meat is superior and today my New York strip has green beans instead of potatoes. And the beer can chicken thighs absolutely delicious. My diet is so limited because of LYme it’s meat fruit and veges and you’ve got that to go. Did I mention I love you guys.”

“I've been on the shoreline for over twenty years, and Walt's reminds me of the local butcher shop in your hometown,selling high quality cuts of beef, along with everything else! My FAV is Walt's Stuffed Pork Tenderloin which is fantastic!!, It's stuffed with provolone,roasted red peppers,spinach and Italian sausage!! Don't wait!!Get it before it's gone! “When I heard this was going to be a Dollar General I was so disappointed. I thought, "Who needs another one??" But now I am so glad it's here! I'm in there several times a week. Prices are very good and selection is fantastic. Last night I picked up some first aid stuff that I would have driven to Walmart for because it would have cost me a lot more at Walgreens or CVS. I loved not having to get on 95. They even have a good selection of grocery items. And as a bonus, the staff is always nice. So glad this store is in town!”

“Cereal and canned goods are more expensive than the grocery stores since they know this area is a food desert. The sizes are smaller than the ones found up the road at Stop and Shop. The real reason to come here is for cheap Chinese products that the Walmart would have marked up. It's a dollar general, and nothing special.”
“Big Y, I want to thank you for removing the last incentive I had to walk into a Stop & Shop! Adding Boar's Head cold cuts to your Deli offerings means that I no longer must walk into Stop & Shop Old Saybrook where I am followed around by a googley-eyed robo-cop collecting data on my shopping habits only to be met by rude cashiers who can't be bothered to say more than "Stop & Shop Card" in a tone equally robotic as their shopper stalker.I would give you 5 stars if the Big Y bakery in Old Lyme had the same level quality offerings as the one in Old Saybrook with its delicious, fresh baked baguettes and ciabatta loaves.This is all to say, Bravo! Keep it up! And please, please promise you'll never add a "shopper stalker robo-cop" to the mix!”
“Nice little IGA. I was a little disappointed to see they no longer offer the huge amount of pre-made (in-store) meals that used to have, but there are a few options still available. Great beer selection! Prices are a little more than the large grocery stores, but they just don't have the buying power and sales volume the larger chain supermarkets have.The deli is well stocked. No, they don't have Boar's Head products, and I'm glad. While Boar's Head products are usually excellent, their marketing strategy is such that they won't provide product to smaller stores unless the store agrees to sell only Boar's Head products, which can be very expensive. This store bakes their own turkey breast, which is VERY good!Good meat and chicken selection. They offer premium cuts as well as the basics.Produce selection was nice, looked good, fresh, and I haven't had a problem finding anything I needed.Overall a surprisingly large offering of food from a small neighborhood market. No, it's not a box store, and you might not find some specialty items, but let's get real-they can't offer everything. They do offer enough such that I needn't drive to another town to do all of my shopping. Also, the sales here keep your overall bill low if you shop the sales.”

“Stopped in as there was traffic on our normal route so we had to take a detour and new the store would be on our way home. Nice store similar to all the others. We especially love bakery items, and have found their vegetables just seem more fresh and desirable than other grocery stores we have been to.”

The staff is more than helpful, friendly, and professional. The staff are willing to help you find anything in the store. “The older gentleman who works the self check out, is an absolute gem. When using wic, I had an issue at the machine. It wouldn’t cover one of the juices I had grabbed even though it should have. He immediately came over and helped me. I unfortunately didn’t have enough to cover it. He told me don’t worry about it and covered it for me. That’s something I won’t soon forget. Thank you sir. Let this be an example of the awesome people working here.”

“We came out of Gilette Castle and passed by here intending to grab some sandwiches and a cup of coffee and continue on our way. The results are surprising. This is the best sandwich and pizza I have ever had. The sandwich is a signature item. The bread is fresh and moderately soft and hard. The beef is tender and juicy. With high-quality cheese, the taste is impressive. You can choose your own pizza toppings, the baked crust is crispy and delicious, and the cheese is rich. It is strongly recommended that you don’t miss it. The shop owner and employees are very welcoming. The weather was relatively cold and they even taught us to turn on the heater when we were dining at the door. Very pleasant experience.”
