Outstanding rich display of Connecticut history . Hands down the best I've ever seen . To much to list but I encourage you to pay a visit. You won't be disappointed! Located in the State library across from the State Capitol bldg . See the many photos I've shown . There's a restroom in the museum and it's free ! M-F 10 to 2 Enjoy !

This is a wonderful hidden gem. I would never know this was a museum. If I did not check on Google. It is the supreme court building. It is always pretty empty, so it's easy to navigate and enjoy. The courtroom is gorgeous, and the museum room is filled with amazing Connecticut history. This last time that I went, I got a chance to visit the library and that is a whole new experience ! There are so many levels of books and one of the workers was so friendly and informative. Overall, it's a very nice place to go kid free. Although my little kids did great, they did get a bit antsy and wanted to walk around while I wanted to read some more. I of course had to be next to them since this is not a place for children to run around. But overall this place is awesome and will definitely take family members to check it out.

This squirrel had to scurry through the museum...not much time today. What I did see was wonderful (at least for history buffs!) Most of the Governors have their portrait on the wall. Outstanding representation of early colonial and revolutionary coins! Great exhibits on inventions by the people of Connecticut, like the Frisbee (a pie plate is on display!), Colt collection includes the earliest revolvers and patent diagrams. Of course, I had to see the Royal Charter; as several ancestors are mentioned! I plan on going back! And as a side note...because of the Court House being adjoined, you will go through a metal detector!

A small but very interesting collection. We went specifically to see the Colt collection, but historic Connecticut industries are also covered, along with the historic charter, and govenor portrait collection. Security was friendly and had a system for holding and returning pocket knives, etc, that were left in pockets - you will be screened. Street parking wasn't bad but requires a small fee.

Came on a random Wednesday and had such a good time meandering around and learning some local history. Fun for a date or a solo venture. Wouldn’t really recommend it for kids

A fun free museum located in the most beautiful hall across the street from the State Capitol building. The museum has portraits of all the former Governor's of Connecticut. Former Governor Jodi Rell has the most beautiful portrait. Not a huge museum but takes more than a solid hour to visit. The only minus visiting the museum is since it's located in the State Supreme court house building the court marshall's x-ray your bags and make you go through metal detectors.

Cool place to visit for free and spend some time. There is the state library, Supreme Court and the museum.

So dope! Most people might think "Connecticut History.... what could be more boring??" In fact thats what one of my colleagues said before we went. Turns out most the museum is all about Colt Firearms and a lot more other revolutionary things. Needless to say, best free museum I have been to in a while. Not only do they show a lot of the weapons but many placks say what they were used for and when they started being made, and also...more history! Was a nice visit.

Enjoyed this small museum. Lots of interesting exhibits. Only con was that the exhibits in the main room are hard to read due to poor lighting/glare and small print. (Mostly the coins)

Beautiful structure with a court, library, and museum. has a sizable collection of Samuel Colt's ammunition, ranging from early production to current use by the police. Great for kids because it is not too big, it provides a fantastic overview of the history of Hartford and the state of Connecticut. From what I remembered they offer free entries..

It just sucks cuz they make history sound like everything was found and discovered by colonial people. What happened to the Native American they took the land from. These museum need to say the complete truth about history. But besides that I give it 5 stars cuz is educational at the end of the day and kids will love it.
