Learn about that Mark Twain fella. I would recommend the character tour. Our guy was awesome. Step into history on the specific year that the family was looking to pack up this residence for a bit and hear about his life and how he lived.
Can't take pictures inside the house but it was a great visit and i would highly recommend.

Olivia was a great tour guide! I highly recommend doing the tour version where the guide is dressed in character and gives you a historical feel for Mark Twain's time. Olivia was very knowledgeable about Twain's life and family as well as even the technology used at that time like the ice box. Olivia was a charming guide and even remembered everyone's name in the group. Wishing her the best of luck in her career and we would love to come back sometime.

Gorgeous home!! I'm happy they kept it and have taken care of it throughout the years. A wonderful trip through the history of a brilliant minded man and his family. Lots of interesting history and knowledge of the Clemmons family.

Number one attraction in Hartford, CT. Is recommended to book the tour of the interior of the house in advance. You can walk outside the building for free. Our guide was a very nice lady, dressed in the costume of a maid. She showed us all the rooms in the house and answered all our questions. The biggest disappointment is that you can't take the pictures inside. But if you visit their website, they have pictures of all these rooms, but the pictures are very enhanced and bright, because in reality inside the light is dim, and it is pretty dark. The tour was interesting, have found out many things about Mark Twain's life. There is a gift shop, restrooms and 2 small museums at the visitor center, also a small cinema to watch the 20 min movie about the author' life.

The Mark Twain House and Museum was a great tour to make. It was amazing standing in the same rooms and seeing where Mark Twain wrote his famous books. You can’t take pictures inside the house because of the fragile antiques, fabrics, and woodworking. Just a unique piece of history to take in and enjoy. The tours run on certain times, so if you get there when one tour starts, you can look around the gift shop until the next one starts.

We drive from Boston to Connecticut to visit Mark Twains house and Museum. It was definitely worth the drive, we paid $27.00 each for a guided tour of the house which was extremely informative. A couple of points to note is that they will not allow people into the house unless you are on the tour and no photos are allowed when you are in the house. The tour are scheduled regularly throughout the day and the house closes at 5:30pm ….. we highly retain visit

"I surpringly loved that" - - 11 year old daughter. We did the living history tour with "Katy Leary", Mrs. Clemen's lady-in-waiting and she did a great job. Entertaining and educational. At least at the time we went, the living history tour was much smaller and so I'd recommend that as I felt it was easier to ask more questions and see and hear better than with the larger general tours.

Very friendly staff, The tour was very memorable. It felt like a trip back in time... Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Mark Twain and the people in his life. I learned a lot about the late 1800's. I would definitely recommend a visit to the Mark Twain houses as well as the museum. I do have to say this place does not have any elevator and is not built for those who cannot walk well, so it you aren’t able to walk well the museum is pretty good itself but I would skip the tour. It is an old townhouse.

As a lifelong Connecticut resident and an ardent admirer of Mark Twain's literary legacy, touring the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford was an enriching experience that brought Twain's world vividly to life. The General Tour offered a fascinating journey through the author's former residence, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the very spaces where Twain crafted some of his most iconic works.
Despite the restriction on photos and videos inside the house, the tour guide's thoroughness and thoughtfulness compensated by providing ample historical context, enriching the experience for aficionados like myself. Every room seemed to resonate with the echoes of Twain's wit and wisdom, evoking a profound sense of connection to the author and his era.
Moreover, it was heartening to witness the meticulous efforts undertaken to preserve the house, ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate Twain's legacy firsthand. The preservation efforts not only safeguard the physical structure but also serve as a testament to the enduring impact of Twain's contributions to literature and culture.
Overall, the Mark Twain House and Museum stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of one of America's greatest literary figures, offering visitors a captivating glimpse into the life and times of the man behind classics like "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court."

Beautiful place with a lot of history. Has a cute gift shop. One thing that ruined the experience is the super chatty guide. All he did was throw a bunch of years. He was reciting the years so fast as as someone us chasing him. Any turn or step you make he was like a super strict teacher saying don't touch that. I would recommend for him to ne a bit friendlier to visitors. Otherwise this beautiful experience will be ruined.

NOT KID-FRIENDLY AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
We were very disappointed with the experience. Despite there being an elevator available for wheelchairs and strollers, we were explicitly told not to take our stroller upstairs. This unexpected restriction left us without access to essential items for our baby, such as the bottle and toys, which we had left in the stroller.
As a result, we had to carry our baby the entire time, even in areas where using the stroller would have been perfectly feasible. While I understand that strollers might not be allowed in certain parts of the museum, such as the author's house itself, there were numerous steps to navigate beforehand, making it extremely difficult with a wiggly and heavy toddler in our arms.
Additionally, the guide's attitude was unkind and judgmental regarding the natural sounds our child made, making us feel incredibly uncomfortable. The entire experience was unpleasant, and I would not recommend this museum to families with young children.

I have read almost every novel written by Mark Twain starting with Tom Sawyer when I was 11. I am now 63 and visited his house in Hartford. It was great experience. The exhibits in the museum are well explained and the short movie, narrated and produced by Ken Burns, provided a quick overview of the author's life. I took the 1115 house tour and the costumed guide (Olivia) was fantastic. She could sing and play the piano. Also, she had no problem answering any questions. The house is very Victorian and had all the latest technology when built. I would definitely take the costumed guided tour at this house museum. I bought my ticket in advance but walk in customers seemed to have no problem getting tickets on the day (weekday) of visit. The little cafe and gift shop are also nice. Great service provided by both.

It's an amazing piece of history. My wife and I enjoyed touring and learning about it and more of Mark Twain!
