I drove an hour here for care. I walked in with my dog and was directed to the lobby where they asked me what was going on with him. I explained he had started shaking this morning, then this afternoon had bloody diarrhea and had vomited and was panting heavily. Also that he had hemorrhagic diarrhea a year ago and I almost lost him and didn’t want to take a chance. That was when they told me they’re closed - not at capacity, closed, and that i could drive another 45 minutes to another ER vet that may or may not be taking patients. It's unacceptable for a supposed 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital to turn someone away without even examining their pet, especially knowing the lack of resources in the area. Their lack of preparedness and consideration for urgent cases is concerning and could potentially endanger pets in critical situations. I felt it was important to share my experience to inform others who may be seeking emergency veterinary care here.

We had to go there twice in one week for our little one. We thought the first experience was impressive. Between the doctor, the nurse Morgan and the receptionist Kayla, they were all wonderful and helpful and proactive. On our second night, we met Zach. We still wonder whether Zach was real or an angel sent to help us during a very stressful time. He was lovely, kind, helpful, calming, I can go on and on. Zach is a wonderful asset to this amazing hospital. Thank you Zach for being so wonderful to us and our little Dexter.

My pup was suddenly limping all over the place while we were traveling from out of state, and didn't seem to be getting better, so I took him to Central Hospital late on a Saturday night. All of the staff were so incredibly helpful, and we were surprisingly in and out in less than two hours, something I very much appreciated. We were given clear instructions, and pain meds that have made my pup much more-comfortable.Dr. Roasa patiently answered my questions, and I felt like we were in very good hands. The fee for an appointment is $180, which felt very reasonable for the care we received, and they were able to email me all documentation necessary for our pet insurance before we left.I hope you never have to experience an emergency vet on a Saturday night, but if you do, highly recommend Central Hospital!

The people that work there are exceptionally nice. I had my cat euthanized there on 1/19/24 and I am so grateful for them.

sent me dog here for cpr and unfortunately didn’t make it. i was out of state and absolutely devastated and had no sympathy towards me and they only care about taking money. had to pay $800 after being told my dog died. absolutely terrible vet. the supervisor told me my brother can go back to see my dog but receptionist wouldn’t let him. ended up not wanting him cremated and called 20 minutes after he left and said they couldn’t change it. should’ve known better after they did nothing towards my other dog. if i could give it zero stars i would.

Can’t say thank you enough to the staff there last night. Our sweet Diddy boy had a bone stuck around his jaw. They got it right off him in just moments. We’re so kind and didn’t charge us. Grateful. ?❤️

I was not even going to do a review until I picked up my my boys ash’s got home and there was no paw print as promised and this isn’t even the urn I chose for him!I’m lost for words ….I’ve been waiting for a call back from a manager or someone higher up in central to discuss a few issues for 14 days !When I call the girls in the front just keep saying there’s already a note to call and nothing else to be done that someone will be intouch. Maybe now someone may really give me a call ! ?I brought my sphinx in from the vet on about 4PM !I waited about 5 hours maybe more for a doctor to actually see him. With only updates that he is stable and well. I left at 830? pm to make sure my kids were asleep and to eat something for first time that day. When the doctor finally given me a call at 10:30? And I was already on my way back up. He said my cat has asthma and he wanted to run some blood work for any kind of heart diseases and stuff given the X-rays sent from the vet.Said blood work would be about hour and half and that when it comes back we can go over a plan of care. He wants to treat asthma with steroid but not if there is a heart disease we will have to see results an go from there At about 1:30 the results came back and my boy does have a heart disease. Everything else was normal. Said he doesn’t need oxygen but they are keeping him in the oxygen. And he wants to monitor him overnight to get him at 8am sharp. So I went home !at 7;15 am I get a call from the doctor stating he did not have a good night didn’t have a great reaction to the medication and has some fluid around the lungs they took X-rays and wanted cardiology and people to look them over . but he now is doing way better to give himCouple hours more so he can be monitored some more and see how he’s doing .At 10 am I’m on my way back up there and I’m getting a bunch of emails and calls from the from desk to sign documents for treatment but I was never told the treatment there still was not really a plan in place I guess so I was confused ! I said I would be rite up ! !I missed a call from the new doctor for the day and spoke to her when I gotten up there she said my boy was in heart failure and I was very confused why he was given steroid when she said he didn’t have asthma and I thought he would not be getting that because of his heart ! I was told a steroid given to a cat with heart issue is not something they wanted to do it can cause issues and heart failure .Which makes me believe he was in heart failure because medication because I was specifically told by the other doc he was not in failure !I’m not sure how all that goes but he was given something he shouldn’t have been !?And I was told an estimate and it was triple that by now !! And then they wanted about 2,000 more to help him out of heart failure !I didn’t want him suffering or spending the rest of his life with this happening until he was gone they gave him 3-12 months to live and it wasn’t until I got the reports back that It said he would of had good QOL - good quality of life - which I was not told would be the case ! never mind when they brought him to me came in 5 min later and whipped out the euthanasia vaccines completely rushed me !I am completely HURT - and feel like I don’t have all the answers here everyone though they are nice seemed to be all over the place and unfortunately my boy is no longer here anymore ! And I feel that he should be - both doctors said different things and I didn’t catch onto that in time !There were a few other incidents in-between as well !And I wish I never came here !!Ontop of it imagine being quoted one price and it was triple ??I get it may have been a really busy night but this is unacceptable

If you’re reading this review, and it’s because you are trying to figure out the best and safest place to get your pet care on a night/ weekend/ holiday, I am sorry. I wanted to share my review because I was in that boat just one week ago, and it’s incredibly overwhelming to sort through it all to get to the bottom line: where is the safest, kindest, quickest, and most skilled facility for my fur buddy? I promise you that place is Central Animal Hospital Guilford. When I called my vet the day before Thanksgiving, knowing in my heart my puppy needed serious care, they recommended Central with no hesitation. From the first phone call the receptionist was warm, kind, and reassuring, and had me come right away. Within 5 minutes of arrival the vet tech triaged us, took vital signs, and got my consent for a basic assessment and imaging, along with the cost of said procedures.Within 30 minutes, the wonderful veterinarian Dr. Himsel came out to deliver the diagnosis, and explained in detail the recommended procedure and why it was recommended, as well as alternate non invasive supportive therapy, and outcomes of both. I was also given an estimate of cost, with a range of low to high for both.At no point did I feel pressured, or made to feel bad about my decisions or situation, and all questions were answered with compassion and patience. In our scenario emergency surgery was required, performed by Dr Landsdowne who was again caring, thorough, and supportive. She called after surgery, explained exactly what happened, what to expect, and allowed time for processing. For the next two days, our pup got better and better under the watchful eyes of Dr. Gross, and finally he was able to go home.Throughout the hospitalization the Doctors, Vet Techs (Amy, Caroline, Emmalina, Lauren and Lisa) and staff were phenomenal: keeping us in the loop, calling with updates, and letting us know our sweet boy was doing well.I was overwhelmed and tearful at pick up, and again was treated with compassion and kindness, and went home knowing I was prepared, and had some friendly voices to call if needed (and need them I did!)I will forever be thankful to the staff here for saving my dog’s life, and treating us like we mattered. So why the heck does such an incredible place not have 5 stars?? After reading their pages of reviews I can tell you this is not a reflection of their quality, care or compassion, and simply amounts to the horror of healthcare costs for people and humans. This incredible, life saving, multi day, multi specialty, collaborative care given 24/7 over a holiday weekend…. It was expensive. And truthfully, of course it is! And this is not the fault of this facility, its life in 2023.I hate that everything costs so much, and that times are so difficult right now for so many. I can not imagine how awful it would have been to have to choose between my pets life or death, and my heart grieves for those that have had these situations. So I strongly recommend if you can: get pet insurance. It is worth it, trust me, I now know.Hope this helped someone out there, and thank you again to Central in Guilford, we are indebted to you!

Care was competent. Wait time was extremely long. Also, we were given antibiotics for our cat that requires refrigeration and we were never told that it needed to be refrigerated. Also, nowhere on the prescription box was it noted on the instructions label that refrigeration is required. It was not until we read the manufacturer’s instructions that we learned it needed to be refrigerated. This is unacceptable seeing as I’m sure this is a very common medication that is prescribed.

We were sent away from another emergency vet and in our state of panic were helped by this clinic instead! And I am so thankful and grateful we were. We had an amazing experience from the the first phone call to when we left. They are very compassionate and truly do care. The front desk receptionist is amazing, fast, understanding, and straight to the point! Perfect for an emergency situation! The nurse that helped us (Morgan) was fun, sweet, kind, and energetic! It made us feel very comfortable giving our puppy over to her. The veterinarian doctor, even while busy still took the time to answer questions and fully explain everything to us! The people In the waiting room even were very friendly and you could tell their spirits had been raised by the amazing help from the staff! I hope to never have to go back to an emergency clinic, but if we have to this will be the first place we go!

The staff at the Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine in Guilford, CT was amazing! They were caring and knowledgeable. Don't hesitate to bring your beloved pet there!I know that reviews can be all over the place, so when you're doing a little research and trying to find out if the business is good and is for you, it can be very confusing! Normally, unless a business or service is really awful, I don't feel the need to post anything. It's only when they've done an exceptional job that I feel that a review is necessary. And this review was very necessary! It was on Monday, in the middle of the night, when I had no choice but to bring my sweet dog Molly to the ER at Central Veterinary Hospital. I had never been there before and I really didn't know what to expect. From the minute that I pulled my car up to their front door and Jenna the Nurse/Technician came out to the car and carried Molly inside, I knew that I would be in great hands.Jenna whisked Molly to their emergency room area, where Dr. Krein tended to her needs immediately. It turned out to be a very long night, but continually all through the night until the morning, both Jenna and Dr. Krein updated me with Molly's condition. On Tuesday morning, Dr. Gross took over Molly's care. She was also very caring and she was patient with me as she explained Molly's condition. All three of these staff members showed a true concern for me dog.Unfortunately, on Tuesday afternoon, I had no choice but to say goodbye to my Molly forever. Molly was placed on a sofa and I sat next to her. I'm sure that a lot of you know the heartache of saying goodbye to a beloved pet. As Molly was given the syringe, she immediately drifted to sleep. Dr. Gross sat on the floor and stayed with us until the end.

SUMMARY: They charged me more than $3,000 over the span of roughly 3 days for bloodwork on the first day, then oxygen and monitoring for the last two days.I'd like to preface this by saying I rarely ever write reviews, however our experience is something I'd like to share due to how mind boggling it was. This past Saturday, my 15 year old cat woke me up very early in the morning (I'll leave out the details to save the length of the review) and my family and I took her to Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine in Guilford, CT and they discharged her that afternoon ($1,000 for that which consisted of bloodwork, oxygen, and monitoring). We then had to bring her back again that night (about eight hours after she was originally discharged) because she started exhibiting similar symptoms. We had to do a $1,044 down payment for her to stay overnight, which now brings our grand total spent on Saturday to around $2,044. She stayed the whole weekend and we picked her up on Monday/yesterday, where we paid the remaining $1,000 payment. I should also add that Central does not currently have equipment/technology such as x-ray and an ECG (which we took my cat to get today at her normal vet). All of the staff we interacted with were incredibly friendly, especially her overnight doctor (I unfortunately forgot his name) who explained his diagnosis in depth which was greatly appreciated, he was wonderful. However, friendliness does not save you $3,000. We will not be seeking animal care from Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine again.

I took my 4 year old Rottweiler to your business, my Nala had been throwing up terrible yellow and green vomit ! I told y’all this when I brought her to you the short of the long is 15 hours later your vet told me she was fine nothing at all to worry about ! Sent her home , yes home said they didn’t need to keep her at all !! On July 31st 2023 I woke up at 11pm with my Nala dying in bed with me , I had no choice but to bring her to you as she wouldn’t have made it to Middletown , upon arrival after your vet looked at her she explained there was nothing that could be done . She did a ultrasound which showed a MASS and lots of fluid and blood work showed she was septic ! How dare you claim to be a emergency vet when all I see in your reviews in some cases that you did minimal work at best and allowed these pets to suffer and ultimately loose there lives because your to ignorant to change anything !!! Do not post “ sorry can’t find a file on you “ do not say your sorry !!! Please close your business and move onto a job where your not in charge of a person or any other animals life !! You are the most horrible people around ! I will make sure this is all investigated , your company will not get away with this death !! I’m response to your comment you left !!! This company wants money up front before ever touching your pet ! To them the HOLY dollar is more important than doing EVERYTHING in there power to to treat / save a pets life ! What happened to do the right thing the first time ! We were sent home with antacids probiotics and I was advised to feed her boiled chicken and rice ! When I called this facility before I came with her in bad shape I NEVER said I was coming to have her euthanized!! Anyone who’s says I did truly needs to listen to the recording of that call ! This company doesn’t take any reasonability for there greedy choices ! The investigation will show the truth ! Please do not bring your pet spider to them !!

Dr. Gross saved my boy, Jagger. We went to the local clinic in New Haven and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars testing him multiple times for everything under the sun that would explain his urinary incontinence. The vets there insisted he likely had a manner of serious, congenital diseases. I then subsequently took him where I took his older brother as he'd had such a good experience with Dr. Gross at this location. Best decision I ever made. He came out three days later a new puppy-he had a UTI and a food allergy. That's it. So I went from believing I'd lose him as a puppy, to taking him here and seeing him diagnosed with two things that aren't serious-at least not if properly treated. It took some time for his kidneys to fully recover based on follow up blood work as he unfortunately had the UTI for two months (do NOT get me started on the local vet in New Haven-not good), but they did recover thanks to Dr. Gross. If you have a sick pet that seems "complicated", for lack of a better word, she is an incredible internist. So thankful my boy is here to continue to spread his joy.
