My landlords were going to be out of town when rent was due so they left a deposit slip so i could put the funds in their account. Santander wouldnt accept cash (?) so i was told to go get money orders and return and they would deposit. When i returned with the money orders they put a hold on the funfs saying they had "confidential information the checks might not be paid." Seriously? These were postal money orders and what confidental info were they referring to? No wonder so many of their branches close! I would never do business with this institution!

This is the worst branch... called to ask what documents I needed ahead of going in so I wouldn't have any issues. Went in at 10 am Saturday. There were 3 employees and zero other customers. I presented all my documents and was told I needed an appointment which was not what I was told on the phone, and they didn't do Saturday appointments. Another customer came in to open a child account and was told they needed an appointment for that. Since when?!!I work during the week and Saturdays are my only available banking days but they didn't care. So I made the first available appointment on Thursday, took the day off and was told at the appointment I still didn't have all the paperwork necessary even though I called and had everything I verified I needed. The employee was also very rude. Take your banking ANYWHERE but here, you won't regret it.

What is wrong with them?!!! Not a good branch. I’ve never walked into a Santander bank and been ignored like I have in this branch. I went through the drive up teller and they were asking me all sorts of questions that didn’t even make any sense. When I ask questions to them they didn’t hear me or didn’t respond, it was just a disaster.

I am a roofer and I did work for a lady who had a bank account here. She gave me a check so I took it to the bank and they would not cash it because I didn’t have an account! So just so you know, they do not cash their own checks if you don’t have an account! I had to give them 2 forms of ID and wait 25 minutes out of my work day just to be told they won’t cash their own checks because I didn’t have an account!

I like Santander Bank because they are generally competent, rarely is there a long wait, and the staff is generally pleasant. A glaring exception to this is the bank officer, Marguerit. Recently I had to make a wire transfer of funds to another state, so I called ahead to ask how the process works. I got Marguerit on the phone and, after a few minutes of incoherent blather, the message I was left with was, "I can't guarantee anything." Exasperated by this exchange, I called the Farmington Avenue branch in West Hartford, and the process was explained clearly and simply. The day of the wire transfer came around and I found myself at Marguerit's desk. I calmly handed her the instructions I was sent by the title company, adding that we needed to call them for the routing number. "I'm not calling anyone." she replied. I walked out. Stay away from this surly, incompetent moron. Everyone else at the bank seems OK.
