Just overpriced and average. Cool vibes, but the product didn’t match up. Also service was pretty rude

This place is an absolute must-try, and my weekly go-to. Everything super fresh, so many in-house made options. The sweet house-made sausage is insane how good. Best steak selection around, I make an extra trip after Whole Foods because the steaks are that much better. Time for the real street intel…The best chicken cutlet sandwich an hour in any direction. Here’s how I get mine, you’re welcome:Chicken cutlet, melted American, lettuce, tomato, red onion, light mayo, and Russian dressing. Try it. Trust me. Virtual high five.

What an absolutely excellent experience. I think it's important to enter this experience well aware that this is not a restaurant, it is a butcher shop with tables placed to convert it. That being said, we enjoyed the intimacy and uniqueness offered dining here. Especially given the small crowd on a Saturday night. The waiter was lovely and attentive. Very friendly and responsive. I am pregnant and no trouble was given for substitutions of some of the courses. Everything was fresh, flavorful and well thought out. My husband is a chef and was impressed by the food quality. The quantity of food was just right. I was shocked to read any review saying that the food was not good as I feel that is not possible, especially given such a variety of diverse courses. A few minor critiques would be to add some tea lights and offer beverages (non alcoholic) aside from water upon arrival. Additionally, while none of the food was cold, some of the courses were a bit more on the not quite hot enough side. I believe this was a result of it not being an actual restaurant with heat lamps as everything was served quite promptly and they could not have expedited the serving any more. I think the pricing was very fair given the multiple courses. We Will absolutely return in the future.

fun evening at The Charles, arrived at 6:30, BYOB, 5 course dinner with beef tartare; tomato, lentil and mozzarella salad; scallop, shrimp, and calamari dish; prime strip steak with spinach and potatoes and dessert; only room for 10 diners; food tasted great, would recommend.

Incredibly overpriced and painfully average selection and quality. Nice staff and good presentation but on a price to value basis - probably one of the worst butchers in the Tri state area. Every meat is 2x the price of all nearby competitors.

This review is for THE CHARLES. The butcher shop turns into a restaurant at night and goes by this name. I went into this dining experience expecting a top notch dinner and couldn't have come out more disappointed. Upon making the reservation we were told to arrive on time and that there was a 10 minute grace period. We even had to put down a credit card to make the reservation. Despite this, our table was not ready when we arrived on time at 6:30. We had to stand at the door as a table was rolled out and set. Same for 4 additional guests who arrived behind us. Also, the place was filthy. Fingerprints all over the meat display cases and glass doors. No candlelight. No music. No ambiance. Dinner in a dirty butcher shop is what it was. We had to ask for an ice bucket for our bottle of champagne, had to open the bottle ourselves and pour all drinks ourselves. (A corkage fee is included in the bill) The food was disgusting and cold. Awful from beginning to end and it wasn't cheap. $200/per person prix fixe menu! The fact that a NY strip steak isn't cooked properly in a butcher shop is absurd. Everything lacked seasoning. Also the chef was taking out the trash in the middle of the dinner course and then left the restaurant as dessert was being served. He was clearly in a rush to get out of there and you could taste it in the food. It's disrespectful to have this experience and pay a premium. I don't mind spending this money but I expect a good experience and value in return. Save yourself the money, time and aggravation. It's not even close to being worth it. I'm taking this review public because I initially expressed these concerns in an email to the chef/owner but he didn't even care enough to answer.

My experience with this place is limited to one sandwich, but if everything else they do is on the same level--and that seems to be what everyone says--then I'll return with full confidence. The pastrami sandwich was one of the best I've had outside New York, juicy, delicious, well-assembled. (And most importantly: quality bread!) Get your lunch, take your seat somewhere downtown, and enjoy.

It is perplexing that this establishment is not listed as one of the best delis in Connecticut, as the quality of the sandwiches served here far surpasses any other deli in the area. In fact, I would go so far as to say that these are the best sandwiches I have ever had.All sandwiches are remarkable and the bread is always fresh and perfectly toasted. In terms of value, the portions are generous and satisfying, making it an excellent option for a fulfilling meal. The pricing is also reasonable, given the quality of the food and the service. This place is by far a hidden gem that deserves more recognition for its exceptional sandwiches. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality sandwich for lunch.

Exceptional quality meats at Darien butcher!. Never had a bad experience, The owner and staff are always very helpful and will prepare any cuts that you want if you don’t see what you need in there wide selection. I’ve been shopping with them for about three years now and won’t buy my pork chops or beef anywhere else. Highly recommend!

The sandwiches are completely over rated. Nothing special about them. Huge disappointment. I want my money back.

Sandwiches used to be better which is why I dealt with the rude manager. Lately they've gotten stale and the meat doesn't taste as fresh. Really disappointing.

Re-train your staff on how to talk to customers. You want business? Don't be nasty.Go to Whole Foods meat department, they are nice, and it's the same stuff. Cheaper.

The chef is skilled and the meal was a fun experience. But it cost roughly $200 a head, including tip, which was more than I'd expected based on the reservation process. I'm mentioning this here as it looks another customer had a similar experience. Once is a mistake... twice is a... it couldn't hurt to provide customers with an unambiguous invoice beforehand
