I can’t say enough good things about all of the staff at Mill Plain Vet. Dr. Jason was exceptional. He was thorough, informative and extremely knowledgeable. He truly went the extra mile to make sure all of my dogs, and my own needs were identified and treated. I also have to mention Daphne who was his lovely vet tech. She was fantastic at handling and loving on my dog while she was being examined and treated. Overall a wonderful experience!

I’m not usually one to do a review but I am simply disheartened at the way this place has gone down hill over the years. We have been going there for years (maybe 10?) and as of today, we will never step foot back in there.I am one to always give second chances and maybe even a third but I am beyond disappointed on various levels. Our negative experiences began in October 2022. We brought our senior cat there, not for a well check visit, but because her behavior was completely abnormal. The vet ordered bloodwork but completely missed a humongous tumor. When I arrived back home and felt it, I called and brought her back in same day. Confirmed not normal and referred me out for tumor. Long story short, her bloodwork clearly showed cancer (another vet later told us) but the vet at Mill Plain dismissed it as normal. Her behavior is abnormal, she is dropping weight, her bloodwork screams cancer and you wrote it off as normal? She died in February. She would have died anyway but we could have given her a chance perhaps or at least known what we were dealing with and make the kinder choice sooner.Enter Dr Chris. He restored our faith in Mill Plain and in vets.He has since left. We planned to follow him but needed our senior kitty to get bloodwork before we were able to transfer our records so we made an appointment at Mill Plain (because bloodwork should be simple, right?) and we were treated horribly and basically were asked why we were there and that we should make an appointment with the vet in January (when we were told over the phone it was not necessary because our cat was just there a few months ago and we were just being extra cautious with bloodwork). Wasted our time and stressed out our cat for no reason.Fortunately, Dr Chris at the new vet’s office was able to accommodate us same day and our pets will now be well taken care of.Some things to consider at Mill Plain as of recently:Calls are never answered with “how can I help you” but always “Mill Plain, please hold.”If you email them, expect to follow up twice before receiving a response. If you ask for a refill on pet meds and request a receipt emailed (as you’ve done for years), expect to have to call now to ask if it’s ready and never receive a receipt.Expect rude attitudes of people who clearly are not compassionate towards animals and dislike their jobs.To those of you who still work there, I’m sorry and I hope you can find a more pleasant place to work. It’s a shame how much the customer service level has decreased (and exponentially!) in such a short time.

I have been taking my now 15 yr old plus small mixed dog to Mill Plain for about 8 yrs. He's been a healthy pooch, I always do a full yearly check...follow-up if needed, timely...happily he's been aok. Over the few years I've met a couple of very attentive Dr.'s.there. The practice has had some changes the past years (Covid ) some transit of outstanding Dr's...Retired, relocation and what have you. Certainly the practice has had some transitional woes. I am here to send recommendations to come on back... Recently I happened to be in need of semi-urgent eye care, hence a call to Mill Plain, and a wonderful, Dr. Loren Goldstein was available same day. Dr. Goldstein was filling in for staff Dr. Mark Gold. We received excellent attentive care. Glaucoma test.. at my dogs age, we should do bloods, urinalysis etc, We did. I had follow up calls, exceptional service, however, I was a wee overwhelmed, too much to take in with phone call results for a lot of old dog reckoning...i called requesting to see if I could have an eye to eye- go over all the eye, bloods etc with Dr. Gold as he was back on duty. I was accommodated promptly and Dr. Gold spent at what seemed like an hour--kindly...going through all the works...and sharing his full brain on it all,,,,I salut his experiences, and certainly his respect of old age and not pushing... if you're lucky enough to have his time for you to listen...great.Apparently, they also have a Dr. Alpert who has just become apart of the practice!Thank you Mill Plain Veterinary and especially Dr. Gold, his fill in collegues, staff and big welcome Dr. ALPERT.

We started going here in 2020, and initially had a good experience with both our dogs. This year has been a disaster though. When I brought in my dogs for their vaccinations, they completely missed the date of one of my dogs rabies vaccination and he ended up being unvaccinated for months. When I called them about this, the person who answered the phone didn't apologize and was very flippant about it. I had to advocate for an apology, and it was only at that point that they offered to comp the cost of the appointment. Then last week I called on Friday b/c one of my dogs is sick, and was told there's currently only one doctor on staff and they weren't in until Monday. We got bloodwork done on Monday and I was told we'd hear back from the doctor the next day. I called at 4pm the next day as I hadn't heard anything (mind you, my dog still is sick), and they weren't able to tell me anything. I then had to call back again at 11am today, and I get "Your dog has diabetes and can you go to Noah's Ark at 1pm to start them on insulin?" That's how the news was delivered. I had no idea what Noah's Ark even was or what this diagnosis of diabetes mean. Horrible horrible customer service and bedside manner to deliver such hard news. I'm horrified and heartbroken. I don't imagine we'll go back to this place.

Hit or miss since this practice changed hands, and I seriously doubt I will go back. Two out of the last three visits were horrible. Not at all confident with the vet care my 20 year old cat received. I booked an appointment with my vet of choice. At the time of the appointment, I was left waiting in the treatment room with a stressed out 20-year old cat for over 30 minutes. I was getting ready to leave, and a different vet came in and I was told the vet I booked an appointment with wasn't in that day! There was another client in the waiting room who was told they had no appointment. I gave it three tries; will not go back. Addendum: I took my cat to a different vet & found he had been misdiagnosed! This used to be a wonderful facility but since it was bought out by a corporation, it’s gone terribly downhill.

If I can give them negative stars I would! Very rude women work there and I caught them of both in lies! They said they do not take payment plans but yet Carecedit is a form of a payment plan. So instead of saying they don’t take payment plans express to the customer that they do in fact take payment plans and the only one they offer is carecredit. They are overly priced as well so if you want rude representatives and overpriced this is the place for you. I even asked for them to give a message to the Vet doctor and they simply would not do so. I wanted to talk to someone with a degree not a rep.

The fact that many Vets have come and gone in the past 3 years speaks volumes. They have horrible retention of their Veterinarians. The last time i brought my dog here the Vet who saw him wasn’t the best and left a bad impression. I will not be bringing my dog back to the practice. And not to mention i posted on their instagram and they deleted because it wasn’t praising them.

I literally drive from out of state just for Dr. Chris Elson. He's always been my vet and whenever something is going on with my pups, he's the only one I trust. His main concern is always the well being of the animal and he would never put them through any unnecessary testing, scans, uncomfortableness or pain. He's hands down amazing! I wish he was still closer to us but the drive isn't too bad and he's worth it.

Dr. Sheldon Steinmetz prescribed a medication for my dog that I’ve been giving for 1.5 years. It was 10x the dose he should have been getting and the practice refilled it countless times failing to realize how much I was purchasing and that it did not make sense. I spent so much money on this medication from this practice, an absurd amount that after doing my research is never purchased in bulk. The worst part is my dog could have died from a medication I was administering thinking that Dr. Steinmetz wrote a safe prescription. Instead of instructing me on how much to give per lb he was having me give THE WHOLE VIAL. I trusted the practice- . I’m very upset and disturbed. Pure negligence and malpractice. The vet that saw him at his annual after starting that medication didn’t check that he was getting too much so we continued to give it to him unaware we were overdosing him.Thank you Dr. Chris Elson for catching this and saving my dog’s life. This was during the second annual visit after starting that medication. I had to leave the practice because of what happened, but I do thank Dr. Elson. Be careful and make sure your prescriptions are safe from here. It seems there is no verifying occurring during refills so your pet could be getting the wrong dose. I’m so very disturbed and hope my dog does not have any health problems down the road.

My dog went in for mastitis in November and a bit of a lack of appetite— a full panel lab work was done and I was told he had kidney disease and was sent on my way with an antibiotic and a high blood pressure medication. After being rushed out the door and unable to get answers to my questions, I left a message with the receptionist and asked the doctor to call me back. I was told that the only way to know how advanced this was is an ultra sound. I spent my afternoon calling 20 vets asking for quotes on an ultra sound (because mill plain told me I would need to go to Newtown emergency vet for this— in case you were wondering this is upwards of $1,000) and only one vet office told me “listen. We will do it, but we don’t want to waste your money, kidney disease is usually proven by bloodwork.” So, I went for a second opinion to this particular vet. Come to find out my dog is in complete renal failure and the high blood pressure medication that has been prescribed is potentially doing more damage and quite possibly being a cause to further his kidney failure— needless to say he has been taken off of them. I’m not saying that his disease progression is solely on them as kidney disease does take its course— but I find it hard to believe that zero food suggestions, lifestyle changes, medication, or other comfort care recommendations were not told to me, even after I had called back and asked so many questions. How can a vet that “cares” simply send me on my way after all of the money and time I have spent there? The only thing I was told was that “some dogs do great on this medication, others don’t.” Oddly enough the doctor that saw my dog originally left the practice weeks later— Dr. Edwards. I have found an amazing practice that has gone above and beyond my expectations and supplied me with more knowledge about this awful disease and have given me comfort medications and treatments and never ending advice and for the remainder of his life my dog will be treated there. My cat has also been pulled out of Mill Plain Vet practice as well as my other dog. Thank you for literally absolutely nothing. Shameful.

Run! This used to be a great practice. Changed hands and now not so much. The vet techs are good. The docs are hit or Miss. The reception staff - awful. Rude and incompetent. I have been left on hold for over 10 minutes, left waiting in my car for an appointment almost an hour after it was supposed to happen because "they forgot" I had checked in. The last things were they gave me meds for my cat for a suspected infection, sent me home with two different versions of the same medicine (one like a toothpaste and one like a liquid) without letting me know - had explained how to use one but not the other. They also said my cat has a thyroid problem, yet the Dr. said he couldn't really see anything on the X-ray?! ThyroCat seeing the bloodwork and X-ray say my cat isn't eligible for treatment because there is no real evidence she has a problem. Hundreds of dollars later... Just my experience.

Shelly was our vet for 18 years. He was the best vet I have ever had. He was kind and compassionate and really took his time with our dogs to make sure he provided the right diagnosis and treatment plan. He performed my last rescue's grueling heartworm treatment and would take the time to call me personally each day and let me know how she was doing. Now that he has retired it is not the same place that I loved and trusted for the care of my dogs. There has not been any notification of his leaving the practice (and his name is still on the website and the signage in front of the office), e-mails are not returned, staff denied my pet's heartworm prescription due to a past due physical, when they in fact cancelled and rescheduled my dogs appointment due to only having one vet working. They prescribed $105 allergy medication for my dog when the prescription hadn't worked in the past and then refused to credit it back; yet they had provided a credit for this exact prescription when it did not work initially (under Shelly's direction). Sadly, we will be looking for a different vet.

Dr. Steinmetz & the entire team at Mill Plain Vet Clinic are exceptional! I drive over an hour to go there & have always been grateful for the outstanding care that they have given all of my fur babies. I would not go any place else!

I had been a client for a long time almost 16 years... I would go to the mill plain vet as needed for my pet needs and always seem to have some issue. Well come to find out the receptionist Britney had problem with me cause I asked about the exam visit price. Each time I had an appointment the price would be higher, and in my pets file notes it stated "please provide price for service prior to visit". With that my last visit in April or May, my pet has a severe situation in which I was sold everything that Vet. Suggested and not sure if it was even necessary. I had no idea Ms. Edwards was the Dr. As she never introduced herself as the Dr. I had to ask. That visit is when I paid over $450 for the services and had a follow-up appt. The next day I received a call, not from Ms. Edwards, not sure who it was and was told more medicine was needed and I could just pick it up it will be ready. My appt.was on a Friday, got the call on Saturday and went to Monday to pick up and pay for the medicine. Well that was it... because I did not want to give my credit card info. Over the phone or give it to the receptionist to charge and stay outside I was giving all my paperwork and told to go elsewhere. Because their covid policy does not allow me to enter without pet or an appointment. The medicine was not ready I had to wait and I did not want to be charged when I did not know what I was getting. And by the way, everytime I went I had a new Vet. Never saw the same Vet twice. This office seems to lack care for the family of their patients. Years wasted as I most likely could have had a better Vet. Family. And who's Dr. Steinmetz 16 years never met him or her...

We have been taking my dogs and cats to this vet for a few years now. The doctors are wonderful, no complaints whatsoever about them. However, the front desk lady who answered the phone on 7/11/22 at 4:10pm was insanely rude and disrespectful. My dog had been bleeding all over the floor from his paw so we called the vet to see if we could get some guidance on what to do. The lady who picked up the phone goes “ well I don’t know what you want me to do about that it’s 4:10 and we close at 5.” First of all: you weren’t even closed yet. Second of all: there is no reason to be this dismissive when a pet owner is clearly worried and trying to get help. We weren’t trying to come in for an emergency appointment but a little bit of guidance on what to do would have been great. I ask that maybe, you see who was working this day because she clearly had no idea how to talk to people going thru a stressful situation. Common decency and respect would be nice.
