AVSS is a warm, welcoming, fun environment for horse fanatics of all ages. Both my 8 year old daughter and I ride and board here and I couldn’t be happier with the high level of training for both horses and humans and how supported and cared for we feel here. It has become our home away from home and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The stable is in the beautiful setting, looks like it’s pretty well taken care, and horses are great. We experienced poor communications, when emails or voice messages were not answered for days, but this is pretty common issue now when almost every small business is short on staff. Unfortunately, our package of 5 1-hour lessons for 10y old child were not only disappointing but in fact traumatizing experience. It’s not clear if that was a coach’s decision, or actual stable expectations, but each lesson started with going to the field to fetch the horse, thoroughly brushing it, next collecting the tack (somehow most horses needed everything including wraps, bell boots and martingale) and sometimes cleaning it before the ride. After 20 min of ride which barely was enough to warm up and cool down the horse (first and last day it was close to 10 minutes), the horse was untacked, and all tack was cleaned again including wiping with glycerin soap the saddle, stirrups, bridle, bell boots, wraps etc. It was an 1h paid lesson, a double of 30 min lesson in price. Daughter, who has been riding for years, didn’t enjoy the experience, and still talks how traumatic it was. Surprisingly unfriendly staff in general. Hopefully one day this beautiful place will change.

I am VERY happy with AVSS! I have noticed some of the reviews stating that lessons are short...those are false and misleading statements. Part of taking a lesson at AVSS is NOT simply getting on and riding, but also about learning everything that needs to happen before and after. Not every lesson is easy, riding is hard work. It is unfortunate that many people have been unhappy with this process. Please be assured, AVSS is the place to get high quality instruction in a beautiful setting with caring, knowledgeable instructors. Our daughter has been riding for 15 years in many places, and over the past two years, Avon Valley Show Stable has made her a better and more confident rider.

I love AVSS! After looking at various stables around CT I have found one with people who are warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. As a shy, new rider I was intimidated to switch to such an established barn. However, everyone I have met here at AVSS is supportive and assuring. Their indoor ring is beautiful and well-kept as well as the upstairs viewing area. This barn is spectacular and I am so lucky to have found it!

My child has grown up at AVSS where the animals are always given the best care and equestrians of all ages bustle in and out. We went to all the riding centers in the area, and AVSS always had happy kids and adults caring for and riding their horses. Moreover, safety protocols were clearly established so that, plus the excellent care of all the horses made AVSS the clear choice for our family. It speaks volumes when you have everyone from private schools, the IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association), local colleges to adult riders coming to one barn year half after year!!

This is regarding riding lessons for kids. Unfortunately, in my family’s experience, this wasn’t what it was represented to be. The most concerning issue was when my child fell off a horse and no one from the stable bothered to tell me.Prior to that, there were other issues, not nearly as dangerous. Our lessons were shorted often, especially if the previous lesson went long, the trainer/instructor wanted to leave early, etc. Trainers were frequently changed making for a lack of consistency. Communication was a mess. It was rare to reach anyone or even have a call returned during business hours. Confirmed scheduling and payments with the office manager rarely translated into the trainers actually having the same information, which caused unnecessary problems, often. A couple of trainers seemed to openly dislike kids, not just mine. Our instructors often sat in a corner of the arena for the lesson, and chatted with each other, instead of staying nearer to the horses and riders, which seemed ill-advised given the arena’s large size and dim light. Cannot recommend, but if you do try it for children’s lessons, plan to supervise consistently.
