Liberty Animal – the initial pricing quotes seem attractively low, which might encouraged you to proceed. However, additional fees can quickly accumulate, significantly increasing the final cost.
Here’s how the process typically unfolds:
Initial Visit Fee – A standard fee to begin services.
Surgery Quote – An initial estimate is provided for surgery, which can make the overall cost seem manageable at first glance.
Additional Fees Begin to Add Up:
Blood tests (a few hundred dollars)
72-hour post-op pain shot (several hundred more)
Post-recovery medications (another few hundred dollars)
X-rays at 8 weeks (a couple hundred)
X-rays at 12 weeks (a couple hundred)
Medial Meniscus Removal (several hundred more)
An add-on cost even for a dog cone
In the end, the total cost for a 70lb dog can exceed $4,000
Post-Surgery Complications: From what I've seen nothing is covered
Additional consult fees - not covered
Additional surgeries costing in the thousands - not covered
Based on my research, Liberty Animal Hospital’s vet, Aris, previously worked at Planned Pethood. Through what I assume is some arrangement, Liberty is the only clinic they recommend, every time I inquired. This struck me as odd, especially given the many clinics available in the area.
I’ve seen notable reputable clinics performing TPLO corrections to address issues following surgeries from Liberty Animal.

This clinic lies and retaliates, and now has threaten to sue me over this Honest and Accurate Review. I have all records, followed everything and came back to get post op xrays. Added to this post. Degenerate behavior from this this vet and his wife.
I'm filed a complaint with American Vet Medical Association and American Animal Hospital Association.
*I'm filing a complaint with the FTC which prohibits Review Suppression. Liberty is using unfounded legal threats, to cause the removal of review.
In 2022, my dog Prada underwent TPLO surgery at Liberty Animal Hospital. Recently, the screws in the plate have come loose, and she's now limping in pain. X-rays from my local Vet confirmed this. My local vet scheduled surgery to remove the plate, but once they began, they realized they didn't have the necessary tools for the specific plate and screws.
I contacted Liberty for more information. Vet Atakem responded, saying it wasn't his responsibility. He claimed infection after 2.5 years is unlikely and that he doesn't keep records of the plates used in surgeries. He also suggested that my current vet know how to handle the situation.
I filed a complaint with Colorado DORA and later spoke with Dr. Atakem's office manager's wife, who initially agreed to look into it. However, after learning about the DORA complaint, she withdrew all assistance, despite knowing my dog is suffering from an infected plate that Liberty installed. Vet Ataken and his wife Oliva have cut off all communication, leaving me with no options.
I required had to have post-operations after this clinic for both of my dogs.
Dog 1 - A second TPLO to correct this vets incompetence.
Dog 2 - The second dog required to remove the plate that was infected because of "loose screws". I'm over it

This animal hospital and staff is a 5 star all the way. I was told my dogs leg needed to be amputated. There was necrotic tissue and a broken leg. The surgeon save the leg and healed the tissue damage. ❤️
Today my other dog had her first visit here and again perfect care. The vet took her time to examine her throughly, explain and demonstrate how to give the treatment needed.
Liberty is amazing in so many ways. The staff is top notch. Also much more affordable. Thank you Liberty for all your care, wisdom and support through a rough time.

Dr. Atakem is a true gem and pillar of the community for pet care, going above and beyond to ensure clients feel seen, heard, and supported. Liberty Animal Hospital has an excellent and kind staff, who are welcoming from the moment you enter until the time you depart. The facility is beautiful and in a great location whether you are based in Westminster, Lakewood or Denver. Finding a vet that you truly trust with your beloved pets live is a difficult feat, but with Dr. Atakem and his team, you are GUARANTEED to be at ease as soon as you pull up to the parking lot. I cannot recommend enough! 6/5 stars.

I highly recommend Liberty Animal Hospital. I have two German Shepherd pups that are very anxious and felt that both Dr. Aris' and Dr. Jane's kindness and patience make their visits as comfortable as possible. The administrative team is friendly and organized. They were also able to get me in quickly when my boy had an eye infection. Exam rooms are always clean, and the lobby has a variety of drinks to quench my thirst and a variety of treats for my pups!

I recently took my dog in to get her teeth cleaned, and the experience was really great. The staff was helpful and kind. There was ample communication before, during, and after the procedure. I really appreciate how professional and kind everyone was.

I recently took my dog to Liberty Animal Hospital for a parasite check since my dog had diarrhea, and I’m really happy with how everything went. The staff was very friendly and made me feel at ease right away. Dr. Jane handled the exam quickly, and I’m glad the issue was solved without any hassle. I really appreciate their care and attention. Definitely a place I’d recommend to other pet owners for the general exam!
