Stopped by here to hear about some fly fishing gear and was pleasantly surprised with how knowledgeable and passionate the staff member was about the sport. He was eager to share his experience and suggestions on where to start with someone new to the hobby and wasn't overly pushy or focused on the sales aspect since we were new to the scene. Store looked to be well stocked with a wide variety of items.

I’ve been in Steamboat since 07’. I bought all my fly rod gear from Straight Line as soon as I moved here, I spent a lot of money on it spending the steamboat premium mark up. Years later I decided to get a bow from them. I’m a lefty and have always wanted to get into it. I wanted to buy locally and the archery was a new addition to Straight line and was highly recommended by a friend. They had a couple of Left- handed bows in stock. Jon got one dialed in for me. I spent the afternoon shooting and getting set up. But they didn’t have releases in stock. Jon said they would be back in stock in a week or so. I paid for the bow and said I would pick it up when the release was is in since I wouldn’t be able to practice anyway. In the meantime a tourist came in and wanted a left handed bow. Jon sold MY bow to him. Jon left me a frazzled voicemail while I was at work. I went in afterwords to talk to him. He told me the news and did not even apologize for it. He said he could get me another one. It was in the height of COVID so nothing was available . A couple or weeks went by without a word from him. I went back into Straight Line and got my money back from Jon. Once again, no apology or anything- he just handed me my money with a straight face. I will never step foot into that store again, I’ll drive to Frisco or Fort Collins to get set up next time. No sense in buying local if that’s the way they treat a loyal returning customer.

I recently made a trip from NC to CO to hunt elk. I had never been hunting or shot a bow before. I bought a bow a little more than a month before my trip and practiced a lot to where I felt comfortable shooting. One person in my party drove to CO so I gave him all of my gear while I flew out there with another person. When we got to our final destination, I realized that someone mixed up my bow and brought the wrong one. I have a 32.5" draw length so it wasn't a simple task in finding a replacement. We went to Straightline Outdoor Sports and met Jonathan who worked in their archery department. He tried his hardest to fit me with another bow. Unfortunately he didn't have a bow that would work for me. He came up with several different ideas and provided me with his cell phone number if I needed further assistance. I didn't buy anything, but Jonathan was extremely nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Their archery section wasn't big, but if you need something I would suggest visiting Jonathan.

Just finished up a small corporate trip in Steamboat. We hired three guides from Straightline, Brett, Cam and Cruz. We had two great days on the water, and our clients were thrilled with our guides. I fished two days with Cruz and caught the largest trout since I started Fly Fishing. I've had dozens of guides over the years and I judge my guide experience not just by the fish I catch, but what I take away in growth of my skill level. Cruz taught me a few game changing techniques I can use when I fish on my own.

Kendra and Bruce spent a lot of time making sure I found a comfortable pair of new hiking shoes (and Oboz supports) for my complicated feet. I appreciate their friendly staff and curated selection. An added bonus is they always welcome my dog with hugs and a treat so five stars from him, too.

Surprisingly limited options for bow hunting in town but stumbled upon Straightline and given that it's only 1/6 of the store, they have a great selection of equipment. With that said, the head bowtech (John) was a great guy, chalk full of information and happy to chat.Anyone looking for some advice or help with fishing/hunting gear, don't sleep on Straightline.
