Happened to hit a low-snow week--a rarity in the winter of 2023, so not the 2-feet of dry fluff one hopes for. I feared a bust, with high winds and no new snow. But great guide (Calvin) still found us some fun snow on lower 2/3 of the mountain, in trees and glades. A totally fun day even on perhaps one of their toughest days of the year--and my adult daughter said it was one of her best ski days ever. And if you hit it right--most years, FAR more common than my experience this time--this place is absolutely epic.

I am an accomplished skier with no experience in the back country. Skiing at Silverton Mountain was the experience of a lifetime. The vistas and terrain exceeded expectations and the skiing was wonderful. But it was the staff that made the difference. Every team member was encouraging, helpful and attentive to my goals for the visit. They were thorough with safety briefings and made sure that safety was taken into consideration at all times. I am so glad that I chose Silverton for my first back country outing. It was certainly worth the effort to get there!

Sociopaths with pets dragging dogs into stores and restaurants. Why has the health department not shut this disgusting filthy disease spreading tourists trap down. Don’t know many people who want to eat at a table that some pet was licking or rubbed it’s privates all over.

If you are car camping in or near Silverton make sure you have plenty of water BEFORE you get there. These are some of the most stingy townsfolk when it comes to water that I've ever encountered. I was refused water when I drove into an RV park by a guy who worked there who had a hose in his hand. I asked if i could fill a water jug or at least could he please fill the quart container I had in my hand. He said, "We don't do that, this is a private." So I left. The next day, nearly out of water and feeling dehydrated, I went to the visitors center for some water and noticed there was no handle on the outside faucet so got a pair of vice grips to turn it and got 2 gallons. The woman at the center came out and in a less than cheerful tone said there was a place where I could use a pay water dispenser (it had no hose so would have just shot the water straight out and was useless) and said she couldn't believe that I would use a wrench to get water. "There was no handle," I said. Yes, to keep people like you from getting water," she scolded. "This is a visitor center and I'm a visitor," I replied. "I was refused water yesterday. Maybe you people should be nicer to your visitors."

If you have some free time, I recommend you to drive to Silverton and to visit this historic town. It’s just the Main Street but it’s really nice to see how it remains as the Western Movie were ? with original 1850/1900 builders and saloons.

Had an epic day doing lift accessed guided runs. We had a great group of 8 with similarly decent fitness levels and were able to get in 6 runs and a bunch of fresh tracks. Our guide, Dustin, was awesome all around. I'll definitely do this again!

My wife and I are decent skiers and have skied all over Europe, the USA and Canada. We love off piste and powder and have experienced 4 or 5 hut to hut ski tours (including the Haute Route) as well as about 12 days cat skiing in Canada. We were VERY apprehensive about Silverton, having read the resort website, but booked 4 days there and had an absolutely amazing time! Sadly my wife was suffering from a chest infection nd flu while we were there and struggled with the altitude. Despite that, on day 1 our guide was very understanding and accommodated her needs with a relatively short hike from the lift on the 2 runs that she managed. (She sat out the other runs for a rest). We asked to be placed in a "slow hike slow ski" group and the rest of our group were great - no cliffjumpers and no egos racing ahead up the mountain from the top of the chair. On the runs all guests were courteous and encouraging of each other to take turns at going first for fresh tracks. I cannot recommend the experience highly enough. The emphasis is very much on safety and the guides were fantastic. We had 3 different guides over the 4 days and all were faultless. The hiking was tough at 13000 feet+ but the pace was steady and we felt no pressure. Hikes ranged from 5 minutes to 40 minutes and every one was worth it. The views from the hike are (literally) breathtaking as you climb the ridge- then drop off right or left, according to the guide. The skiing was incredible - great powder and steep runs but nothing intimidating. And every run was skied one guest at a time due to the avalanche risk. That was no problem however, as the atmosphere with the other guests was great and we had a good chat amongsst ourselves as we watched others ski while awaiting our turn. The set up is indeed basic - imagine Aspen or Courchevel 1850 and think of the other end of the spectrum. In fact Silverton makes the facilities at Glencoe, Scotland, look like Aspen. (And that's no disrespect to Glencoe- we love it!) One highlight for me was that the check-in tent doubles as the apres ski bar. What an atmosphere! The place was buzzing as we compared ski tales over a (very reasonably priced) draught pint.
