I go to several great guest ranches and the ones that I really like, I go to annually. BarLazyJ has been added to my “go to every year” list. They have it down to a science! The owners are actively participating daily to make sure you are having a great time. The horseback riding schedule is varied depending on your likes. The horses are great as is the tack. They have an outstanding bunch of employees. You also will not leave hungry from any meal for sure!

If you are considering a guest ranch, then the Bar Lazy J should be at the top. This was our first time and it was amazing. All the people are so knowledgeable and friendly and easy to get to know. We felt very comfortable and taken care of. The horses and activities and food were fabulous. You will not be bored or go hungry. Strongly recommend

We fly home to Philly tomorrow after a wonderful week’s stay at the Bar Lazy J guest ranch. It’s all inclusive so the three home cooked meals a day were a welcomed break for this working mom. My two sons (both college aged) ate like kings. We loved all the various horseback rides and the beautiful landscape of Colorado! The hospitality of the staff was amazing - warm and welcoming. Jordan and Tammi in particular added a professionalism that was impressive. But all staff was great! The horse riding instruction for us novice riders was top notch. We also loved all the critters on the ranch - the goats, dogs, ground squirrels and beavers! We enjoyed time in the pool and the hot tub after long rides! This ranch made our first trip to the great state of Colorado one for the books!

I have been to several guest ranches over the years, and I can honestly say that this is the best guest ranch I have ever visited. Every need is met with warm and friendly generosity. Location is beautiful, the staff is well trained and eager to please, the children’s program assures that they are kept happy while adults are also enjoying themselves. This ranch is a great value! if you love riding, a rustic atmosphere, great food, without sacrificing comfort, you will love this ranch!!!

Best vacation of our lives. We were a family of 5, 3 kids 12, 10, 6. I'm a die-hard fisherman so I was most excited about the gold medal fly fishing, but the horses won my heart by the end of the week. My kids were crying because they had to leave. The fishing was challenging because of the wildfire washout caused silt and some muddy waters so it wasn't crystal clear. I ended up swinging big streamers and stripping the flies like I fish for stripers in New England. I still landed some big browns and had an awesome time. The kids program for 7+ had lots of horse riding and games and activities. Every day, our older ones were completely exhausted (in a good way) and just had hours of stories to tell us about their adventures. The buckaroo program (< 7) was still awesome. They got on their horses a bunch with leaded rides. We were lucky enough to be taking a loping lesson during one of our little guys leaded rides and we ended up walking around with him a little bit. The buckaroos got to feed the goats, swim, crafts, and play games with the super friendly kids wranglers. The horseback riding was absolutely incredible. You get to bond with your horse the entire week and do bushwhacking through federal land. The breakfast ride on Wednesday was memorable because you do it with your kids if they're old enough to ride on their own (7+). We opted on Saturday to do the root beer float ride into Parshall with the kids and that was a great time too.Cabins are rustic, not fancy, but have everything you need. Fridge to toss some cold beers in, good showers, comfy beds, and nice screened porches to sit and watch the river. Don't worry too much about your cabin though, if you're like us, you'll be spending 99% of your waking hours not in the cabins.Food was awesome, had a good variety for the week. Some meals I remember were: steak & shrimp, bison short ribs, rainbow trout, burgers/dogs, prime rib, tacos, and cheri's flying blueberry pancakes, etc...The boot barn was where you can borrow some used cowboy boots/hats. They also had tons of sunblock there for you to lather up before all your rides (the sun is very intense at altitude, don't skip sunblock). The water to drink is a natural spring, it tasted great and we drank gallons a day. Always be drinking water, this isn't a joke, if you don't drink water a ton you're gonna get sick. The altitude and sun dehydrate you super super fast at 8,000 ft elevation. Just drink tons and you'll feel fine. We're 100% coming back, just trying to decide if I bring my parents with us next time.Pro Tips:Take the horsemanship course with Cheri, it was everything you needed to learn about riding their horses to have an enjoyable week.Take the loping lesson and get certified to do some moderate/adventure rides, they're so much fun and you can't beat the scenery (especially Cowboy Canyon).Hit up the local fly shops (we did in Estes Park / Grand Lake) in the area and ask them what the trout are eating. There are flies for sale in the gift shop at the ranch, but some local knowledge on whats been hot was very very useful.Bring mostly long sleeve UV shirts and lightweight flexible pants if going in summer. I wore some Prana rock climbing pants almost every day when riding, but always used my full sleeve hooded fishing shirts to protect from the hot sun on a longer ride.

Our family had an awesome time at the Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch! The kids program was so fun with a wide range of activities to do each day. The counselors, wranglers, horses, and location were all top notch. This is the perfect place to experience an active vacation with a family!

Top 3 vacations of my life. Best vacation ever with my entire family. Highly recommend as a perfect balance of adult vacation with the excitement they create for the kids. Staff goes the extra mile and you can feel the passion from the owners.

The Bar Lazy J continues to be absolutely amazing. It is everything that you would want in a guest ranch experience and more. Located on the banks of one of Colorado's premier fly fishing streams, the main attraction is horseback riding. However, there are a ton of other activities (axe throwing anyone?) The staff is uniformly friendly and professional. You can drop your kids with the counselors after breakfast and not see them again until dinner. They will have the time of their lives.Speaking of which, the food is excellent. Even if you do not ride, you should go to the breakfast ride feast. Every evening there is a different activity - so you always wanted to learn to line dance - well this is your opportunity. A caveat - part of the philosopy of the ranch is "leave technology behind." The cabins are very comfortable, but rustic - no electronics of any kind. And cell phone use is discouraged. All in all a wonderful experience.
