We showed up after missing a tour to simply ask questions and the owner was absolutely amazing. He was welcoming and willing to tell stories and share information on his collection. You can feel his passion come through as he walks you through the history of all the items in the museum. Absolutely wonderful, fun, educational, and captivating experience. I definitely recommend this stop for anyone checking out Ouray.

I had been wanting to check this place out for a while and was finally able to when my brother came to visit. I highly recommend scheduling your tour ahead of time with Curt. He is very quick to respond. It's a one man show and did take a bit of time to get the full tour, but it was very worth the trip. Curt is quite the character, and has plenty of stories, history, humour and passion for his museum. There are so very many artifacts and displays. We were there several hours, and I'm positive we didn't see everything. So make sure you stop in to check it out if you get the chance and experience this impressive, one-of-a-kind collection yourself. You will definitely learn something new and have a great time.

My wife and I visited Curt's museum and I was amazed at his vast collection and knowledge. He made us feel at home and his storytelling while showing different pieces of history was second to none. I'm not sure what we liked more, walking into a room that takes you back 150 years or the legendary historian who acted as our guide. Thank you!

If you come to Ouray & don’t visit this place; then you did not truly visit Ouray. I am 26 & visited Ouray earlier* this year with my girlfriend & was even allowed to bring my two very well mannered German Sheppards in this Museum. This place has items you will never have a chance to see again! A private collection beyond imagination. This was certainly one of the most memorable conversations, displays/collections & discussions of my life. The owner Curt truly is an encyclopedia of vast knowledge in so many things. Knowledge that is unfortunately lost in this modern world. He is a gem in this world that not many people in this world could compare to. Someone who has so much to teach & pass on to the next. I wish I could have stayed much longer! This man is truly a modern day Socrates. A true philosopher & visionary. He is an absolute amazing story teller & teacher. You will leave here a much wiser & enriched man, no matter the duration of stay.He is nothing short of a gift of wisdom to this world.

Curt has a collection unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and is a wealth of knowledge on history, medicine and alchemy. One of the most interesting tours I’ve been on, I highly recommend checking out this fascinating spot in Ouray.

This apothecary is a hidden gem. It was an enjoyable 2 hours with the owner/pharmacist ( Curt?) Who was very knowledgeable and answered questions with patience and humor. Definitely a must see.

We called in the morning and Curt was kind enough to schedule our tour for later that day. His collections are incredible and he discusses the artifacts and history of alchemy / pharmacies with such enthusiasm! Curt was a joy to talk to and also gave us great recommendations for other things to do while in the area. Would definitely recommend the Alchemist Museum to anyone visiting Ouray!

The Ouray Alchemist Museum was a highlight of our recent trip to Colorado. It is a truly amazing and unique place. Sign up for the tour and see the astounding collection of pharmacy items from across the centuries, in particular the late 19th/ early 20th century US west. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and funny; he will teach you all about pharmacy, alchemy, drugs and hucksters from the Assyrans and Egyptians up to the present. Bring a sense of humor, the whole thing is a hoot as well.

Engaging and delightful walk through time as presented by a pharmacist. Curt’s passion for Ouray and history is inspiring, and the collection is lovely, well kept and presented with care. Truly enjoyed the experience as a whole. If in Ouray, will definitely visit again.

My brother and I were impressed with the vast number of bottles and containers of snake oil and other 19th century medicinal cure-alls at the Ouray Alchemist Museum. Curt was a font of knowledge and had numerous humorous stories about the early days of curing people of their ills. Much love and care has been poured into this museum, which is definitely worth seeing.

Curt, the owner, gave us a tour even though we arrived Ouray pretty late that day. The collections are amazing and unbelievable. I highly recommend everyone who is in the healthcare field or simply interested in history to stop by this museum. Don't forget to chat with Curt while you are here.

A must see when visiting Ouray. The collection of pharmaceutical items is vast and well preserved, but what makes it worth while is the owner, Curtis. Curtis has an amazing story himself and a knack for telling the history and peculiarities of alchemy and pharmaceuticals. Do yourself a favor and call Curtis to set up a tour!

Awesome little gem in Ouray. Very interesting collection and tour that you wont see anywhere else. The owner is very passionate and knowledgeable and gives a great tour. You will learn a lot while visiting.Just make sure to call way ahead and set up an appointment for tour! I called about a week ahead of time. The owner is the only "employee" and Ouray is a slow paced mountain town. Some of these negative reviews are pretty unreasonable considering lots of mountain-town stores have flexing hours.
