For a not very treacherous hike, but one where you get pretty far up, I highly recommend this one. Go in winter to see the iced waterfall. We could see the ice on the ground below the waterfall and could see the water flow beneath it. For a guy from the deep south, it was fantastic!

Beautiful frozen waterfall! What more do you want, you ungrateful animal?

Still one of my favorite places. Was surprised there wasn't more ice, slippery way up, but always a good one!

The Lower Cascade Falls trail is a short and sweet hike to the base of a waterfall (the last in a series of seven) that carries snowmelt off the Ouray Amphitheater and down into Ouray.
The Falls are set high in the eastern redstone cliffs overlooking Ouray and can be seen from many vantage points around the City.
The trailhead starts at a parking area at the east end of Eighth Avenue. Enjoy the view from the Ouray Trail Group shelter or make it a longer hike by continuing on the Ouray Perimeter Trail (brochures are available at the Ouray Visitor's Center).
This is a great trail for kids and dogs and offers a lovely nature experience within walking distance of historic downtown Ouray.
