Totally incompetent company starting with the owner Eric Cook. These people did my taxes for many years very easy taxes and they charge me almost $800 to do a very easy tax return. However, the last several years after my tax guy retired my service has gone straight down the tube. In fact last year was the first year that I filed After October 15 in my life. This year they have stopped responding back in June and I have filed an extension and I haven’t heard anything since today is October 15. I still haven’t heard anything. I’ve left messages after message after message even to the owner, Eric. These people Are the worst of the worst stay away from this company

Eric provided the tax filings for my sister’s probated estate. Pretty complicated 1041 and associated K-1’s. Thank you Eric for your efficiency, reasonable cost and being a pleasure to work with!

Eric has always been very professional and caring. We live in SC and have been doing business with him for about 6 years. He always answers email, text, or phone calls in a timely manner. I, unlike alot of people, understand that during tax season there may be a time delay.

I have been a client of Barker Financial for over a decade, but it's new management is an utter failure. I was notified that, for the second year in a row, I would have a new accountant working on my account. Looking back, that should have been a red flag! I provided the new contact with all of my 2023 documentation on February 15, 2024. At my request, I received an email confirmation on February 17th. When I hadn't received any contact for several weeks, i inquired as to the status of my returns in late March and my contact said the files "were corrupt." I was asked to convert them all to pdf files. I took the "corrupt" files and converted them all to pdfs. Not hearing back, I again started sending requests for a status update, with no response. Out of frustration, I emailed the former owner who contacted the office on my behalf. I quickly received an e,ail requesting a 1099 for a specific account. I responded by email that there was no 1099 because the account was a ROTH IRA, which had no tax consequences. Not receiving a response, I called and left a voice message on April 12. Again i didn't receive a response. Now it was April 15th and i tried to call again. This time i actually reached my assigned accountant who said he was still waiting for the 1099. When i explained to him that, as i had noted in my reply to his email request, that account had no tax liability and thus, no 1099, he told me he could finish the returns in time, but i shouldn't worry because Barker automatically filed for an extention. A week later i received a notice from the state that i was not eligible to receive the state's $800 sales tax rebate because my return wasn't fi.ed by the April 15 deadline. Since then I have been trying to reach the accountant and the firm's new owner in hope the firm could intervene with the state on my behalf. Neither of these individuals has returned my calls. I am obviously at a loss to understand what a financial services firm does if it doesn't know current tax laws and can't respond to client needs.

I'm very satisfied with this year's work. There was a previous difficult year with staff changes but it all seems to be running smooth and effectively now. I have been a client there for over ten years and it's so nice to keep that consistency.

We have been using Barker Financial for at least two decades-possibly longer. We had a March 9 consult with a new tax consultant-our former person retired-, which cost us $643.00. We phoned this morning to find out where our tax forms were and my husband was verbally insulted by Eric Cook. Mr. Cook told my husband he didn’t have the time to “hang on the phone again with him.” My husband has NEVER spoken with this man.BEWARE-what a outrageous and surreal encounter of the. weirdest ever-a simple call-where are our tax records after a month? My husband is a gentleman and kindly asked whee are my tax records. This is truly unprofessional.

I would give 0 stars if it would let me. I would avoid this company at all costs..... They are expensive and yet, you as the client do most of the work. You are basically paying people who can't answer important tax related questions to input numbers that you prepared yourself into a system. I have seen them be very rude to people and they are definitely not in the business of making sure you get your taxes done correctly. I wouldn't trust them and I would say with so many other choices out there, avoid these guys.

I filed my 2016 taxes with them and ended up receiving a tax penalty from the state which has never happened to me when I do my own taxes using TurboTax. They also never sent me a paper or email copy of my return, so now I can't e-file my 2017 taxes because I need specific info from last year's return in order to e-file. Tax specialists? Pffffft

I've been meeting with Kent yearly for my taxes and it has been my experience that Kent is very prompt, detail oriented, and very knowledgeable. I wouldn't go anywhere else- highly recommended.
