Carl is simply a petty bully who never admits any mistakes but is only too happy to chase you down for the nickel he feels you owe (but you don't because he is wrong). How this guy has stayed in business this long is a mystery to me. His shocking lack of detail in a profession that REQUIRES detail is truly astonishing. He is a poor excuse for a human being and there isn't a shred of consideration for anyone else. If, after reading this, you still chose to do business with him, you can't say you weren't warned...

STAY AWAY! I cannot stress this enough. Carl allowed me to park a bus behind his business for $150/month. He decided to raise the price to $200/month without warning the day I was leaving town for an extended period of time (which he knew about). It took him 2 weeks to send me a new lease reflecting the new amount and within 2 hours of sending it, he was already demanding payment and threatening me with an arbitrary late fee. I sent him a $600 check the very next day to cover 3 months of parking. About 2.5 months later, he began demanding MORE money from me. I refused and insisted that I had already paid the full amount; first he demanded $230, then $330, then $180, then $90, and most recently $1,015 -- even HE didn't know how much I supposedly owed. I refused each time and continued insisting that I didn't owe him anything. Finally, I sent him a copy of the signed lease and copies of the cashed checks as proof that I've paid my dues. I haven't heard from him since -- no apology, no admission of guilt, nothing. I've concluded two possibilities from my experience -- either Carl is too inept to manage a simple, legally-binding contract and the $600 that went along with it (which, with 36 years of \\\"financial and accounting consulting experience,\\\" would be hard to believe) OR, more likely, Carl is a bully who carelessly ignores the terms of legally-binding contracts that HE drafts and, instead of conducting honorable business, prefers to walk-the-fine-line between reckless mismanagement and extortion by throwing contracts out the window and demanding undeserved money from his customers in the hopes that they'll fold and pay it. Carl has made it crystal clear that his priority is making himself money -- not conducting himself/his business with integrity or delivering for his customers (and the other reviews shine light on this claim as well). I'm grateful that my business with Carl and JCP Financial was limited to parking a bus on their property -- I would strongly advise against hiring JCP Financial to handle your taxes, payroll, or any part of your business/personal finances. Every year JCP does my taxes, they pay for their service and then some. I will always use JCP for my taxes. Very knowledgeable.

Carl was excellent at advising me on how to handle complex tax situations when my job changed from a W2 employment model to a 1099. I will definitely use him to help with whatever tax things come up with me in the future.

I’m a musician. I hired Carl and JCP Financial to do my taxes… They charged me for over $7k worth of “bookkeeping” services which I didn’t need or ask for…He filed a lawsuit against me when I didn’t pay, he fired the CPA that he assigned to my account, and after I settled with him through mediation, he filed for the full amount of his lawsuit claim as income that MY COMPANY RECEIVED, costing my tax return and causing me to owe money…This situation started in 2018, it’s currently 2022 and still costing me…*********DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH JCP FINANCIAL!!!!!!!!!********

Carl lacks the competence to act as condescending and abrasive as he does. He has no attention to detail and will miss important information on your forms. On mine, he got the whole state wrong. When you call him to fix it he will take the call while he's driving, tell you he doesn't remember you and will have to look it up when he gets to the office, and remind you that he has many other clients and that you're not important. Then he will never follow up and correct his mistake (literally the wrong state), but he will make sure to bill you for your one-minute distracted phone call. When you email JCP to get clarification on all these mysterious consulting charges, of which there were many, they will never respond. When you call they will offer to mail you an invoice and won't. Instead, they will send your account to collections without ever sending an invoice. Or maybe they're sending it the wrong state, despite multiple attempts to correct that information. There's a reason JCP only has one-star reviews and a bad rating with BBB. I suggest you set your money on fire before trusting Carl.

Carl lacks professionalism, comprehensionrainpower and reasoning. After a four month delay on my 2020 tax return, in which Carl filed, I reached out to the IRS. They advised the return had not been received, in their system and a penalty would be issued. I immediately reached out to Carl, as a client would, to make him aware of the information I was given. The phone call to Carl was interrupted, by him and a DoorDash employee, auguring, the food was delivered to the wrong address. The only information/advice Carl provided during that phone call, was to contact the IRS again. The brief call to Carl was exactly four minutes and thirty three seconds. Within a week, I received an Invoice/Bill, in the amount of $85.00 for the inquiry. I called the office of JCP and the receptionist could not explain why I was charged and advised me to contact Carl direct. I emailed Carl, disputing the debt. Following several back and forth phone calls and emails to Carl, he continued to argue that the tax forms were correct. A mistake couldn't have been made on his behalf and would not mention the bill I received, after verbally agreeing he would reverse the charge. I finally realized there was no rational thinking on his part and requested Carl no longer contact me. I asked him to remove all points of contact for myself from his file. I advised I will not be paying the unreasonable charge and I most certainly will not be a returning customer. Carl again fired back with an email, stating he made no errors and the charge was applied accordingly.Just as the previous review stated, if you hire JCP Financial/Carl, be prepared to pay when mistakes are made and or you have questions or concerns.
