This place has been our family's "go to" for several years. We have celebrated our kids marriages there, our grandkids accomplishments, mourned the death of a family member and just enjoyed time dining out impromptu when we can all be together. We have always enjoyed it, appreciated the quality of the food despite the high prices and often suggested it to friends. Return and recommendations following our dinner this past weekend: Doubtful. 1. We were seated at the far booth/table to accomodate 8. The table is very close to the staircase leading upstairs. As one of our guests slide into the booth to sit down, her hip was slammed into the wooden corner of one of the stairs resulting in a contusion to her hip. This is dangerous and we left word upon leaving it needs to be addressed promptly. Be aware of this hazard if you are seated at this table. 2. The shrimp "ceviche" was awful. It is not ceviche as one know ceviche to be. It is shrimp diced up and mixed up with what looks to be cocktail sauce or some other Ketchup like substance. At it's price it was an utter disappointment. The chips served with the concoction were yummy however. 3. The Caprese Salad was unrecognizable. Small slices of what appeard to be over ripe Roma Tomatoes were filled with dry herb mixture soaked up with juice of the soft tomato. A small (size of a nickel) piece of fresh mozerrela was placed on top slathered with an enormouse amount of very sweet balsamic was abandoned after one bite.. 4. The Clam Chowder? A mystery. The consistency of oatmeal w/o any broth had more corn in it than clams was gluey & lukewarm. 5. Those who had steak and sides delighted in them. 6. The side of spinach ? Returned to the kitchen when it came 1/2 cooked and 1 raw/cold only to be returned swimming in oil. The server: Delightful and attentive to addressing concerns If you go: Stick to the steaks......the other entrees all missed the mark. (Seafood manacottie, Chicken and meatloaf all served luke warm.

We normally really like 740 Front for its food, menu, drinks and service. I'd estimate we've eaten here 12-15 times in the past 2-3 yrs. We were unfortunately somewhat disappointed this time (and last time too.) First, it takes a long time to get a drink - even a glass of wine and a ginger ale, in spite of two experienced bartenders. In spite of asking not to rush the meal, the salad arrived with the apps and the main course was a bit too soon after that. The server is experienced and has been there a while, but just not that personable or attentive. Mussels in a red sauce were good, although for some reason the french chef refuses to make it without pomodoro - which is as easy and basic (and delicious) as french cooking gets. The caesar salad was good. The vongole (clams) and linguine in a white sauce was heavy, and heavily salted, and the clams in the shell were dry. The seafood crepe was heavy and overbearing. Our recommendation is to stick with steaks or the Pork Chop which is awesome, or crab cakes over salad. Save the italian / french entrees for restaurants that specialize in those cuisines. (And call in the drinks ahead of time???)

First time at 740 Front. Absolutely fantastic food and service. I asked the waiter what where the best items, he said steaks, mussels and orange roughy. I had the mussels and orange roughy which were fabulous and colleagues had steaks and raved about them as well. Will definitely be back again.

We started out with devilled eggs and Caprese salad, very good! We both had steaks, they were pretty decent, I had the wagu it wasn't as tender as I thought it would be. The dinners do not come with any sides, those are all extra. Even bread. I had mashed potato's & spinach those went well with the steak. My husband had ribeye & Mac mac n cheese. The mac n cheese wasn't cheesy all the way through it, just on top, The noodles were loose, and I honestly don't think it's worth $22. It was mediocre at Best. So over all it was a nice dinner, but there wasn't anything that stood out & was just fabulous!

This was our 2nd time to eat here. The first time everything was wonderful. We were in a room where the noise level was good. This time the food was wonderful our waitress was very friendly and efficient but the noise level was high. We were out in the main dining area. Shrimp and scallops were great! My husband said the salmon was ok.

Excellent Margaritas. Nice thorough wine list. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding - - interesting blend of cheeses with a nice crust. The kebab withe mashed potatoes had a nice flavor, ample portion.

Very nice establishment. The food is excellent ! One of our guests is gluten intolerant. And I have several unusual but serious food allergies. Our waiter and the chef were very helpful with seeing that we were well taken care of. The restaurant was very busy. But, although a little slow, we still got excellent service.

We had an exceptional birthday dinner! Tom, our server, did a fantastic job. We all had something different, so we could exchange tastes. All four meals were delicious. I would definitely go again, and again!

740 Front was lovely. Celebrating a birthday was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, and the service was great. Having dinner at a historic landmark was really fun and adventurous. The ambiance was cozy, and the server was very sweet. Thanks for making our birthday celebration a memorable one.

We went to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed. Tom, our server was outstanding and very helpful. We had two sides of meatloaf, which is better than mom's, and lobster with sirloin. Everything was cooked perfectly to order. We finished with chocolate brownie and a crème brûlée. 740 Front is a great place for that special meal.

All the food was excellent, including the Waygu steak. But I was really impressed with the vegetables, including the asparagus, steamed spinach and the mushrooms. Perfectly al dente, really well done, sand and sign of a great kitchen

Wonderful dining experience, again, at this gem of a restaurant. Service fantastic, delicious food, lovely ambiance. The noise level was the only issue that detracted from a perfect evening. It was so noisy that conversation was very difficult. Short ribs- fantastic! Owners are welcoming and present. Overall, another great dining experience- we will return again!
