No care for customer retention after building drive shaft incorrectly. I dropped off a driveshaft to be matched. When I got home with the new one 70 miles away the yoke installed was incorrect. When I called the said they would make it right but are not willing to work with the $700 price to assist in my time and fuel to go back to them. This is after a $1800 trans rebuild that leaked in day 1. I know we are limited on transmission and driveshaft shops in our area but loosing 1 customer will loose 100.

My wife and I were returning home and about 70 miles out of town when the automatic transmission on our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee wouldn't shift properly as our speed increased, and then the vehicle began lurching. So we got off the highway and called for towing service. In the meantime I called Baker's Transmission and confirmed that they would be able to look at the vehicle and at least diagnose the problem in the next day or two... to which they said yes. After a long wait for towing and ride back to Grand Junction, the service writer again confirmed they'd get to the vehicle in a day or two. Although she seemed a little put out when I asked if she could tell the towing driver herself where to unload the vehicle. And no way they could provide a ride for us home. So a few days go by and no response; we stop there in person and get the same story... a day or two more. After a full week has gone by, I'm starting to get a little impatient, but was never mean or verbally aggressive in any way. I just wanted answers for why it was taking so long, or if they could suggest a range of possibilities for the problem. By then we're new car shopping as transmissions can be really expensive. The answer was always something that said nothing: "We're waiting on driveshaft parts prices... we'll call you when we can tell you something." What's a driveshaft? "We'll call later with that information." Can I speak with the owner? "No, he's not available. We'll call you later." At that point, the frustration level on the part of both the service employee and customer is at a boiling point. Okay, I get it. I've been in business for myself for over 40 years. In sales, I could always recognize interference from gatekeepers when I was not gonna get to speak to the owner. No way. No how. Nobody gets to see the Great Wizard of Oz. Proverbial door in face... and get out of my hair. And that was this person at Baker's. I also understand there are things that happen outside the control of the business owner that make the customer unhappy. But it's the responsibility of the business owner to explain the situation and initiate communication. Not ignore it and wait until the customer is ready to explode, or leave it in the hands of an employee who could not possibly care less. The absolute worst part of this mess (and motivation for this review) was that the service writer person was blaming me for wasting so much of her time (5-10 minutes asking apparently stupid questions) preventing her from doing her work. I consider myself a patient person... but I draw the line when the business screws up and then plays the victim role, blaming me for their problems. To lay this review to rest, the mechanic called on the phone after I left a few minutes later, stating that he was unable to replicate the symptoms. He was courteous enough explaining how there could be intermittent issues with a sensor, wiring, or something of that nature (information I would loved to have had a week before). But the vehicle seemed drivable. That's all I needed to hear in order to get back over there and retrieve my Jeep before I was tempted to strangle someone (that's a joke... I'm not a violent person). But if you've ever felt like an auto repair business was giving you the run-around... this was the queen of all such encounters. Oh... and they charged me $100 for that little bit of terrible service. And the transmission symptoms are still there.

I took my driveshafts to drive line services after calling to get a quote. The quote was $350 for re-tubing 2 shafts.Whe later agreed to have the CV joint rebuilt at $75. When i picked them up 4 days later, the price was $549. Fortunately i had an exra $200 in cash. However, they were incorrect length and had to be re-tubed (again). For this i was told by Cole: "I'm not going to bend you over, but I'm not doing it for free" and for this, was charged another$145. (They are the only shop in the area that does this, to the best of my knowledge)When they were done 2 weeks later, i measured them. They were wrong again. So i left them there. Within about an hour they were done, and correct length. However, when i tried to install them, the bolts would not thread into the CV joint. I discovered so much paint on the threads, i had to use lacquer thinner and a tap to remove it all.I don't fault anyone for making mistakes: i fault them for not making them right.
