If you are in Fairplay and want to experience what life was like in the Good Old Day's as far as accommodations go the Hand Hotel is the place to spend the night. The rooms are furnished in 19 and early 20th century furniture and pictures, and it puts you in an atmosphere which makes you feel as though you are living back in the good old days. There is one exception and that is the bathrooms in the rooms they are modern. There is no out house. The main lobby has a large fireplace with comfortable couches where in the winter a person can sit in front of a warm fire on a cold evening and have a hot cup hot chocolate and quietly let your mind wander back to an earlier time. The Hotel has numerous old pictures of the area and the time period which reminds a person of just how life was back then, boy people sure had to be tuff. The Hotel also has two gift shop which are full of hats, shirts, coats, books, mug and other items. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and provide a nice continental breakfast for their guest in the mornings. They are also pet friendly to well-mannered pets.In all it is a nice experience and for me anyway a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Hand Hotel is one of the few lodgings where the character & history of the old west is preserved. The rooms, sitting areas and breakfasts are welcoming, warm & peaceful. Mikes decades old geraniums fill the sun room with joy and reassurance that some things don't need to change.

This is such a gem of a place! Best kept secret for those in the Denver/Boulder area who want to ski Breck but don’t want to do the drive up and back on the same day. 40 mins from the slopes without ever having to see I70. The place is cute and cozy, with sweet doggies curled up by the roaring fireplace. 30 second walk to a whiskey joint for apres ski, followed by several great restaurants across the street. Cat, the owner, is a delight, and Pam and Mike will take great care of you and make you feel at home. And the breakfasts are delish! Close access to snowshoeing and summer hikes. And don’t miss the Mardi Gras party and Burro Days! Fabulous historical town without the bling of the ski areas. Treat yourself to a weekend here!

Perfect! Clean, great access to trout streams and skiing. We paid a fair price and it was the perfect old western surrounding for our Breckenridge ski vacation. You can come here to ski, fish for trophy trout, or pan for gold in the Platte River. An excellent hotel. Possibly haunted!Rooms: Clean

So I don't even know where to start, from the view from the super beautiful room, too how friendly Cat was at the front desk, (not too mention being greeted at check out by the most amazingly wonderful dog who made sure we enjoyed our stay) this is an amazing place, HANDs down! We will be back! Thank you for making my daughters 18th birthday awesome!

I cannot say enough great things about The Hand Hotel. This was my second time staying and I cannot wait to come back again. The owner, Kat, is the sweetest, friendliest soul and wonderful conversation. We greatly enjoyed playing scrabble in front of the fireplace, walking down to the frozen over river, and enjoying a delicious breakfast in the sun room with the mascot of the Hand Hotel, a golden retriever named Hazel. The rooms are gorgeous and clean, and feel like you've taken a Time Machine to the old west. I have stayed in the School Marm room and the Silverheels room and both are beautiful and very comfortable. We'll be back soon!

Absolutely loved this place. The staff was amazing & welcomed me with open arms. Very convenient location & just a short walk from the Bustangs drop off.

This is an old hotel straight out of a western story. It was what I imagined When I read Louis Lamour books. On the west side is a lower breakfast room that looks out over a lake. Good selection of quick breakfast foods and good coffee. Loved the squeaky staircase.Rooms: A little small but each one has a bathroom. Spent some time trying to figure out how the bathrooms were added. It looks like the hall was originally wider than now.

We have been staying here for years. The price has more than doubled with the new owner. It’s definitely not a value anymore.I’m thankful that some of the staff have stayed on.It was wonderful to see their smiling faces.Food & drinks: The breakfast is still decent with several options. Love the homemade salsa verde!

My boyfriend and I stayed there earlier this week. We had a great time. The service was really good and the place was really clean. There were adorable very well behaved dogs there. I love dogs and hanging out with them was so fun, but the owners had a great recall on them if you don’t like dogs they won’t bother you. The bed was really comfy and the toilet was good

This was the second time I stayed at the Hand hotel and it was just as wonderful as my first stay. The staff is fantastic. The breakfast is delightful. All day coffee with the perfect condiments. The first time I stayed for a week, I had quite a few paranormal experiences from children laughing in the middle of a cold night to the smell of perfume that followed me around the hotel. This time I stayed one night and had no paranormal experiences at all. Either way, it's an amazing place to stay. I highly recommend it!

We had a great stay. Hotel is quaint and charming. The breakfast included as part of the tariff was fantastic. Cat at reception is a real gem!
