This is the first time I saw Highlands Australian Cobberdog on yelp. I was shocked, almost angry, by the negative reviews. Because the reviews are completely different from our experience. I spent two years searching for a puppy when I retired. In 2018, I found Nick and adopted my dog daughter. She is healthy, smart, beautiful, playful, fun with perfect temperament. Nick is such a great breeder, I followed every instruction and read all the books and information he recommended. Since then, I read extensively regarding raising puppets and cobberdogs. I could attest everything Nick shared are textbook accurate, and experiences learned from real life. In 2021, When our dog daughter was three, I called Nick telling him that we were ready to have another dog baby. After the long wait, we got a little boy. This time I flew to Nick's farm in Colorado to pick up the puppet in person. Any people who has some amount of knowledge SHOULD know no professional breeder would allow any stranger to visit dog nursery to see new puppets and dog parents, because breeders need to protect their dogs, as strangers could unknowingly bringing virus/germs and wiping out entire litters. When I was leaving, Nick gave me lots of paper towels in case little puppet got motion sickness in car and airplane. Our new dog son arrived home with no accident at all. Like his sister, our dog son is gorgeous, smart, healthy, active, fun, and a quick learner. He is 2 and half years old now, knows so many tricks, including sing along with daddy. Our dog daughter and son have comprehensive pet care, they have been super healthy without any health issues. Both dog kids are such charmers, our vets, vet techs and groomers all adore them, sometimes I think they spoil them. I am in Phoenix, here I have met several Cobberdog parents who got their dog kids from Nick. All of them are super happy with Nick and their dog kids. Some of them are Nick's repeat customers. I could not recommend Nick, and his Highlanders Cobberdogs enough. A side notes: Nick is right, there is no bad dog, only bad dog parents. This theory is confirmed by the famous dog breeders Monks of New Skete in all of their dog raising books.

I was skeptical at first given we couldn’t meet the puppy before purchase. However, Nick and his family were kind, answered all our questions and the payment and pick up went smoothly. Text messaging was prompt and informative. Nick gave us lots of helpful info. We’ve only had our pup for a few days, but we love him and he fits perfectly with our family.

We have had our dog Frankie for a little over 2 years and she is by far the best dog we have ever had! Frankie is smart, loving, loyal and wonderful with our family and other dogs. She often will come to work with me and does wonderful in the office and around new people. In addition, the breeders are the best I have ever worked with. They truly care about their dogs and ensure you are ready to properly care for the dog. I highly recommend Highlands Cobberdogs!

Outstanding breeder of a wonderful breed. This breeder cares about his dogs and the home that he places them in. He was very responsive to any questions that I had after I got my dog home. I will definitely be buying my next Cobberdog from this breeder. My dog is incredibly smart, friendly and affectionate not to mention beautiful. I couldn't be happier with my choice to go with Highlands.

My family has gotten 3 dogs from Nick at Highlands, the one pictured being our newest! Our other dogs are now 5 and 2, and all three have wonderful personalities and truly are companions for us. Nick is very knowledgeable and we have dealt with him for each of our dogs. Bodhi is almost 10 weeks old and he is sleeping through the night, going to the bathroom on command, and has already starting picking up basic commands such as "sit". Very intelligent dogs and Nick is very supportive!

Recently got a puppy from them and less than two weeks after I purchased her she almost died. When I picked her up I was denied the ability to met her parents and no dogs were present but you could hear lots of them barking and making noise in the barn. When I was about to leave the breeder said "let me give you some paper towel in case she throws up". I thought that was kind of weird because I bought a puppy from them the year prior with no issues. Sure as all heck, she threw up three times on the way home. The first day we had her she was diagnosed with giardia, and was given antibiotics. The next week she started acting a little weird one day and had a temperature of 105.4 and collapsed. I spent just under $3,000 to keep the dog alive. She couldn't stand, heart beat was racing, eyes were bloodshot and her temperature was in the margin of death. Five different vets couldn't figure out what was wrong with her, that included 3 emergency vets and our 2 primary vets. I reached out to the breeder numerous times for help and suggestions just for him to accuse me of doing something to the dog that caused this. They supposedly "guarantee" a healthy dog but that wasn't the case for me. I am a returning customer. Last year I spent $3,250 on a dog and my puppy this year was $4,000. I asked for the vet bill to be compensated and he said "no" and then I asked to meet me halfway on the vet bill and he still said "no". Unfortunately it took me two dogs from this breeder to realize that all they are doing is breeding dogs. It's a business for them and I believe there are much more caring and loving breeders out there advocating for this amazing breed. Continue for my first interaction with the breeder. When I got my first puppy it was the beginning of the pandemic so I know things were different. I really wanted to see the parents and I was denied but understood at the time. Was a bit surprised that no dogs were out and about or present, all were put away in a barn. Upon arrival back home my puppy had giardia, curable but not ideal. I was a first time dog owner so I called Nick to let him know. He immediately told me "my dogs don't have giardia and he didn't get it here". It was literally 24 hours after I got the dog. I paid the vet bill and got him antibiotics. A bout a month later the puppy had some issues with his teeth and I was referred to a specialized that wanted to do some work to make sure his teeth would come in properly. I again called Nick and told him what was going on and he was addiment that my vet wasn't honest or ethical that they didn't know what they were talking about and they were just trying to make money off me. Again, not the end of the world so I rolled the dice and his teeth grew in good enough. The first paragraph was the most important but wanted to add context so you know what you are getting into. You're getting a dog from a full time breeder who is only in this for the money and will not work with you moving forward. If there are any hiccups it's going to be on you.

Choosing Highlands Australian Cobberdogs breed was the best decision for our family. The breeder is very informative, always available & passionate about his cobberdogs. He guided us through the entire process with detailed instructions & updates. I 1000% recommend this Cobberdog breed & Breeder!!!! Leo is physically healthy with a good stamina & a very good breed of dog.He is 4 months old. He’s an amazing, beautiful, sweet, loving & smart puppy. Everyone that meets him immediately comments on his beautiful, unbelievably silky soft fur, demeanor & falls in love wanting to take him home, even his Vet. My Vet was extremely impressed by this breed. Leo is a true cuddle bug. As soon as he wakes up in the mornings, he wants affection, big hugs & cuddles. We had family over through the holidays up to 8-12 people at times. Some hadn’t interacted with dogs before. He won them over & greets each one with hugs & cuddles every morning. Also, he is hypoallergenic & does not shed. Some family have asthma/allergies & did very well with him.My 10 year old daughter says:“He’s very cute, playful, charming, extremely cuddly & opened our hearts. He’s awesome, spectacular, cutest, loving & most adorable puppy in the whole wide universe!!!!!” ?

THINK TWICE: 1) These people are NOT NICE & will tell you right up front that if your dog has any behavioral or discipline issues, it's NOT THEM, it's YOU. They say the breed is perfect so their dogs are, too, and it's ALL YOU. 2) Do you really want to train a puppy and start from scratch? It's not worth if you get a biter, like we did from these people. Buyer beware. We are spending a fortune to try & discipline a nightmare dog & we know THEY won't be helping in any way. They made that abundantly clear. It's a romantic wonderful idea to fly to Colorado and get a new puppy. The actual reality is not so hot. 3) These people said my dog would be a certain size and he is on track for FAR exceeding that. Wasn't up for a BIG dog like this. A big, big disappointment.

Recently picked up our second puppy from Highlands Australian Cobberdogs! So pleased with their temperament....they are smart, easy to train and fun family members. Our vet was very pleased with their health checkups. Our three year old is an incredible athlete and our new pup is already a great retriever. Really appreciate Nick's (breeder) efforts to match people with their pup. We picked our "Wesley" up during a snow, but would have liked to tour his barn to meet our pups dam and sire. Maybe next time!

After much research for a Poodle Mix I narrowed it to Labadoodle as I had a most incredible Lab years ago. Then found the Cobberdog breed and intrigued as I knew Poodles were being bred with most every other breed…. And the Cobberdog was more “True” to original Australian breeders intent…Then found Highlands.Read some more and called Nick who was very helpful, informative, asked me questions about my history with dogs as well as my husbands, and what we wanted, could handle, others who would be in frequent contact, exercise, socialization and Nick emphasized TRAINING and Cobberdog intelligence etc.So began our deposit, our wait, our shopping and excitement. Finally we were the next in line… we didn’t get our first choice of Chocolate color.. but are even happier that we have our Reddish male we named Ziggy. As others stated Nick gives detailed directions regarding food, crating… and referred us to read Monks of Skete for info. training tips, how dogs are wired, and we watched YouTube’s of the Monks and other trainers. Very fun and helpful!!Bringing Ziggy home just an hour from Highlands was a joy.. he cuddled, relaxed, and we bonded with him by day 2.Besides being Wavy haired adorable he is 12 weeks, now sleeps through the night, likes his crates, highly intelligent, loving, learned many commands, loves People, Dogs, to explore, chooses which toy he wants thoughtfully ( I’m serious) , rarely accidents in house now, people love him… he brings us so much joy, and we him.His vet rates him as perfect weight, behavior for that young, health and of course gorgeous and cuddly @18.2 lbs.I read other reviews snd agree with all the positive comments .Our ONLY suggestion for Highlands is that it would have been GREAT to have had Nick or Samantha take videos of Ziggy’s siblings/litter and parents and send to us.I understand Nick wants to limit outside human contact with his dogs for health reasons.. but would have meant a lot to us and I think every person who gets a Highlands pup.We would have loved to have seen his dog family ?We have also randomly met another owner of a Highlands Cobber here in Denver. So Ziggy and Bernie have met and played/ walked with us. We gained a new friend with a Red, 5 year old Cobber..Thank you Highlands :) Deb, Jim and Ziggy

I give Highlands 5 stars. We just bought our 2nd puppy from them and have referred 2 other people who have bought from Highlands over the last 5 years. Our very first Cobber was bought 14 yrs ago from the original breeder in Australia, and we like Highlands because they are carrying on the true lineage of the former Aust Labradoodle. Public needs to understand that there is a huge difference in what is now called a Cobber and just some lab/poodle puppy that someone bred in their backyard to just make money. This little guy is a true Cobber, loving, super smart, instantly connects with people and highly intuitive. All they want to do is be your best friend, be with you and help you everyday - which is usually you smiling more. The consistency of Highlands puppies with these qualities as well as temperament and coats is extremely high and very consistent. Nick can be a little quirky, like us all, but he loves his puppies, what he does, and can be very protective of who they go to. A true Cobber is much more then just the lab/poodle, and you get out of them what you give them. They have so much potential if you are willing to spend the time training them you will have found the best family dog you could ever have. Great with toddlers to seniors. Cobbers were originally bred to be guide dogs so they can learn anything, they will need stimulation/learning and exercise. They are incredible family members and Highlands breeds the true original which is worth every penny. We will buy again from Highlands

After making the decision to get an Australian Cobberdog, I knew the second most important decision I needed to make was choosing a breeder. I wanted someone that I could trust and rely on. Someone who was passionate about breeding Cobberdogs and stayed true to breeding their characteristics. Highlands Australian Cobberdogs, and Nick and his family, was this breeder! My 5 month puppy, Boone, is the perfect puppy for me! He is loving and intuitive, a quick learner, always happy and willing to please, and all that I could have asked for...and more! Nick was wonderful at communicating and always willing to answer any questions I had. Every part of the process was positive and I would recommend Highlands Australian Cobberdogs 100 times over!
