“The staff at the animal hospital saved my best friend’s life on October 3, 2024.

We were from out of town and passing through Durango on our way from Oregon back to Pittsburgh, PA. As we were walking through town after hiking, Rosco started drinking water from a bowl outside of one of the gift shops. He started drinking way too fast but by the time we pulled him away from the bowl it was too late. A couple minutes later he started showing symptoms of bloat. He was trying to vomit and nothing was coming out. He then got in a hunched over posture and looked “bloated”. We immediately drove over to Riverview Animal Hospital as it seemed like the highest ranked vet in the area off of my quick google search. I am so thankful we chose to come here. They were QUICK. Once was expressed our concern for his stomach flipping, they took him back for an X-ray IMMEDIATELY!! I knew the news was bad when Dr. Amy came out a few moments later and told us we needed the surgery now or that he would not make it. Not only were they great with Rosco but they were great with us as well. By the time we got that news we were emotionally pretty unwell. The surgery took a few hours and Rosco came out alive and well. Nearly 3 weeks later I’m writing this review. Rosco is 100% back to his normal energy filled self. I have nothing but gratitude for everyone here!! Dr. Amy is incredible and you can tell she is compassionate about what she does.

“I have unfortunately had several emergency situations with my Minature Yorkie. Dr. Lodahl was not my original pick for Harleigh because she is quite a bit further away than the vetinarian I had originally chosen. The first emergency I had Dr. Lodahl called me back very promptly whereas the other vetinarian didn't call me back for several hours. On another occasion when Harleigh had ingested pink fiberglass insulation, the other vet did call me back and advised me to give her Hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting and bring her in on Monday for an x-ray. It was a Saturday when this happened. Dr Lodahl called me a short time later and said I should bring Harleigh in for an immediate x-ray. Dr Lodahls home is right next to her facility so there was no waiting to see her. Her staff as well as Dr. Lodahl called me to check-in on how Harleigh was doing in the days after the incident. On another occasion Harleigh had eaten mushrooms while I was working on our property. I had Dr. Lodahls cellphone number already in my phone and she answered me immediately. She advised me what to do and I was able to take care of Harleigh without bringing her in. Once again Dr. Lodahl called me the next day to check-in on how Harleigh was doing. I am more than happy to drive the extra miles for the extraordinary amount of fast and personal care Dr. Lodahl has shown for Harleighs well being. I would highly recommend her to anyone that has a pet in their family. Thank you Dr. Lodahl for helping me help Harleigh during the most scary situations in our lives. If I could give you 100 stars I would ?❤️?”

“The entire staff was super friendly. Very thoughtful to my new puppy, always making sure he was comfortable. Dr. Marshall took his time and answered all my (obsessive) questions very throughly. Worth the drive from Dunton, CO.”

“We were visiting Cortez from out of state when our dog developed Bloat in the middle of the night. Durango Animal Hospital was the only vet who answered their phone and Dr. Johnson met us at 2:00 am. She performed surgery on our girl and saved her life. It was a terrifying situation, and Dr. Johnson was great at providing important info and keeping us updated, and was so caring and compassionate. She and her staff called us several times post surgery and release to check up on our dog and made sure we had what we needed to safely make the trip home. I’m forever grateful for Durango Animal Hospital and Dr. Heather Johnson! ❤️”

“I've only received great care for my accident prone dogs. They handled the end of life care with great compassion. They even stayed open past operating hours to give us time with our Casper. Best prices I've experienced by far.”

“Called to get my dog spayed. They were booked for a couple weeks, and I passed off my situation as needing it sooner than later, which in my mind was accurate. But due to the thorough education the receptionist gave me, I was enlightened that it would be better to wait numerous weeks after the dog was past her first heat. She could have just been direct with her answer and that was it, but she inquired about what kind of dog it was, etc. Another place in town I called was just matter of fact, and almost rude as if this is what we recommend, and that's it. The size of the dog, the type of dog, none of it mattered. A red flag. This lady was very nice and patient with my questions. I'll definitely be taking my dog here when the time comes. The other 2 places I've dealt with in Durango I'd be wary of.”

“Karlene is extremely knowledgeable and professional. When western medicine fails to treat the source of an issue in dogs or horses, holistic medicine approaches the problem in totality, not simply treating the symptoms. I highly recommend Karlene and her practice!”
