This review is for the grooming department only. I just moved here and brought my golden doodle in for a haircut. I just wanted a trim, I mentioned that I like the style cut he has and we just needed to clean up around his face and trim up the body. The groomer said no problem. I came back to pick up my dog and he was completely shaved. I just wish I was told beforehand while we were discussing what I wanted that they would be shaving him and I would have taken him elsewhere. Very disappointed and will not be back.

Ignominious, the one word to describe my experience at the grooming center of this Petco; simply and utterly disgusting. Our dog, Joplin, is a 10 pound chihuahua mix, she's timid and grooming stresses her out. We went to a grooming appointment we made Sunday 1/15 at 9:00am. The groomer went to leash her and she growled and bared teeth, not in an offensive manner, but in a defensive way. The groomer immediately refused service, this is a ten pound dog who is VISIBLY stressed, she didn't even try to calm her down, she got in her face in a noticeably rushed and hectic manner which spooked our, once again, TEN POUND DOG. That lady is a joke, we typically go to the Petco on Colorado Blvd and they have no problem with Joplin, they are patient with her, they take their time to calm her down and they have no issues once she is in the grooming area, the ladies at the 44th street location have no business being groomers, are you really scared of a TEN POUND DOG, best tip you can isn't monetary, it's to find a new job. That isn't even the worst part of it, we have a second dog who was also going to be groomed, but we cancelled his appointment because why would we groom one and not the other? Presumably out of sheer spite of this cancellation, the "unquestionably professional" groomers put a ban on Joplin at any Petco, as we tried scheduling a new appointment at the Colorado Blvd location (where they can actually handle 10 pound stressed dogs) and they wouldn't allow us to create any appointment due to "an incident regarding Joplin"; this is a joke. My fiancee and I have almost exclusively shopped and groomed at Petco, no more, I will not give this company any more of my business, avoid this location, I would give zero stars if possible, pathetic, disgusting.

Terrible experience at this Petco location that has caused them to loose a customer forever. I took my two dogs here to get groomed, they are both small, under 15 lbs. This is the second time we have gone there. One of my dogs was visibly nervous about the situation. The groomer came up up her with a leash, not taking into account her nervousness, and came right into my dog's personal space trying to touch her. She barked at the groomer and barred her teeth. Without even trying to speak to us about how she should approach her or trying again, the groomer started to tell us that "this was not the right fit for us" and that they couldn't groom my dog. Again, this was our second time there, the first time we had no issues even though my dogs sentiment was the same. They even told us how great she was after the appointment, and how much they enjoyed her. I am not sure how this is not the "right fit for us" after getting that feedback from them in the previous appointment.I usually take my dogs to get groomed at the Colorado Blvd location, and always have a great experience. They always take into account my dogs nervousness and we have never had an issue there. After we have this experience, we tried to rebook the appointments at the Colorado Blvd location. but when we tried to book, we got an message saying that due to a previous event, we were no longer allowed to book my dog for appointments.Overall, a TERRIBLE experience. If your dog does not have a perfect temperament, or gets scared, do not bring them here. These groomers have no idea how to deal with dogs, and clearly have no interest in trying to do their job.

Just a review for the grooming area, the store has been great. I made an appointment to get my dog groomed & brought her rabies vaccination papers. Rabies is every 3 years, my dog had her dose at the end of 2020, which would make her due the end of this year, 2023. I was told her vaccine is expired and I can't get my dog groomed, even when she agreed rabies is every 3 years. My dog isn't even 3 years old yet, so would be impossible to be expired. Overall just really irritating I wasted my time and was turned away for no reason. Not sure I'd want to trust anyone with my dog who can't count to 3.

This review is only for the grooming services, specifically HECTOR! I did get to my appointment early today because I had to take my one year old to another appointment. Getting around and out the door with a one year old isn't easy so I do try to be as early to most things to avoid being late. When I checked into petco Hector (who is not my groomer) looked up my dog and said, "you're early." I stated I know, is it possible to check my dog in early (as grooming appointment take 3-4 hours anyway, what is another 40 min in a kennel). He continued to have a rude attitude and told me he would ask my groomer. As we've used this groomer in the past and she knows my dog, I didn't see what the issue was. Hector was trying to be as un-accommodating as possible. In a rude attitude he told me I would have to wait for my groomer or I could reschedule. It seemed very unnecessary! He wasn't even my groomer and from my interaction with him I WOULD NOT leave my dog in his care to be groomed. He seemed like he didn't like his job and if he is that rude and lacks patience with a customer, I couldn't even imagine his patience with a dog. I do not need to be punished for being early to an appointment. I get that people are on schedules, and I was only asking if I could check my dog in early. The horrible attitude and rudeness was uncalled for. My groomer is extremely pleasant but I will be taking my business elsewhere because I don't need to be treated poorly for inquiring about an early check in! I would suggest that if you use this grooming service at petco to avoid Hector for a more pleasant experience!

This store has a terrible policy of advertising prices online that don't match what they offer in the store. For example, today I tried to purchase some tap water conditioner (for an aquarium), which is on the website at about $8 for a 16 oz bottle on their website. That's a pretty good deal, so I tried to order some online for pickup in the store. No dice. I kept getting an error when selecting in store pickup. Hmm. That's odd. I've ordered a lot of things from Petco before and never had any issues. When I went into the store, grabbed the item off the shelf and went to the checkout, they tried to charge me $18+ for the same item. When I asked why it was so much cheaper on their website, the guy said "Everything is cheaper on the website," as though that were some kind of explanation. He then mumbled something about taxes and fees. Pretty swell little scam they got going here! 1) You advertise something at a low price online. 2) Make sure the online checkout/cart doesn't work and 3) When they come in, try to charge them more than twice the price for the item they want. This has got to be illegal, not to mention a crummy way to treat a (formerly) loyal customer and do business in general. After some haggling, I did get the clerk to ring up the item at the advertised online price. But I literally had to go to the website on my phone (while other people waited behind me in line, mind you), type in the item description, wait for the results to come up and show him the price on my phone screen before he would honor it. I'm sure his little computer had the online price right there in front of him the whole time, too. As you can imagine, this was a pretty lame/lousy experience. I'll be going elsewhere for my pet supply needs moving forward.

I recently got an aquarium, and I've been coming to this Petco regularly for fish and supplies for the last three months. When a filter stopped working about two weeks ago, I still had the receipt, so I took it back to the store for an exchange. Within a week, the new filter broke as well. I took it back with the return receipt in hand. The man at the register was unfamiliar to me, and instantly began to question me condescendingly. He took the filter to a tank to test it, acting as if I were lying about it being broken. I explained the mechanical issues going on with it, but his demeanor was patronizing, belittling, and very off-putting. He then told me my exchange receipt was not valid to get literally the same item. It was the exact item I had exchanged for 19.99$ only days before, for the same cost. He said my return -with receipt- was only worth 14$, and demanded I pay more money for the same replacement. I was speechless. The other employees at this store have always been kind and helpful, but this man (who seemed to be a manager of some kind) was awful. It's disappointing that a major chain charges customers more money to replace something that is clearly a faulty product, with an actual receipt present. Fish Den is a much better local retailer with excellent selection and great service. Never again, Petco.

Why would I ever shop here if it wasn't the absolute last option that I had? 1 star for for lack of effort from the garbage employees . Will go out of the way for PetSmart, if I find myself absolutely unable to just buy it online.

Jazmyn was amazing and helped us out so much with our fish. Definitely ask for her when getting a fish here
