Hire some cashiers and quit forcing customers to become employees, self-checkout should be an option not the only choice. <- is still an issue.
Update: The stores produce section is horrible these days, Oranges for example look good but when peeled are dry and flavorless, like orange jerky. I have never seen a dehydrated orange inside the rind before. I have also seen more frequently now rotting vegetables and fruits on the shelves.
Overall, far fewer options in produce and frozen foods, I find myself having to go to king-Soopers to supplement my grocery shopping, if I don't go out right. The butcher shop lately couldn't give two <blanks> about helping a customer out, for example asking for an actual 1" cut on a rib-eye or NY strip, and they walk out to check the section vs butchering a cut, like I didn't just look there. The deli seems to have fewer options as well... Not sure if it's because the chain was bought out recently or bad management or both. Used to be a great store to shop at, I am more likely to visit another store now.

I just moved in from Virginia and this has become my go-to market. Very helpful.
(Update)
The customer service here is exemplary. I have used their shopping service for the last 2 years and can't imagine shopping elsewhere. Thanks to Bear, Ronn, and the rest of the gang.

My review is mainly about the bakery. I bought three fresh bagels from them yesterday. I was a little bit shocked at the size of them, they were like twice the size of a standard bagel, but I’ve had good experience with Safeway, so I took them home. This morning, I sliced one open and was shocked at how light and airy it was! i’m sure you know bagels are supposed to be kind of heavy and thick. Anyway, I put it in the toaster, and when it was done, it was like eating a toasted croissant! It’s very light and crumbly, biting into it the whole thing kind of just crumbled apart. I find a hard to believe that in Safeway in Colorado, they don’t know how to make bagels. Did they use croissant dough?
One other thing about the store; I was looking for a tea, and I looked up at the end of the isles and saw a sign that had tea on it, so I went there, walked up and down the entire aisle, and didn’t see any tea. I then asked a employee, and he said “oh, tea is way over on aisle 11”. Well, why don’t they update their signs then? what’s the purpose of having informational signs to help you shop, and they don’t have the right info on it? Poor management.

Everything in Safeway is overpriced. For a 24 pack of Pepsi I paid 1599. And then whenever I went to Costco I paid for a case of 36 count 15. And then King Soopers last week had a 12 pack by to get three free. So that was 60 cans of soda that I paid $20 for because per case that was $9.99. But that is the best deal I've gotten so far was from King Soopers. I only go to Safeway when I have to because it's literally 10 blocks from my house. Only go to Safeway if you have to!

I noticed one of the items I bought Today (1-18-24) was expired. No biggie. I went to call the store and inform them about it and I couldn’t get anyone on the phone! I called 5 times!I’m not looking to get a refund or an exchange on this. I just wanted to let them know so they can go and check the rest of this product and make sure that there isn’t any more expired ones.I have shopped with Safeway for years and this is a more Reoccurring thing than I would like it to be. 9 times out of 10 when I shop at Safeway, there is always one or two of the items that I purchased that are expired and it’s not even just at this location! So buyers beware! Check the expiration dates on your items before cashing out!I will no longer be shopping here! All of your locations here in Colorado Springs are absolutely appalling! You keep your stores looking like trash. Your items are always expired. Your meats and produce always look like they’re on the borderline of rotting. And the people who hire on shouldn’t even be working with the public. This has to be some sort of health code, violation, or just violation in general! Or you guys are just lazy and don’t follow FIFO and just shove product wherever on the shelves, it can fit.

Sunday morning arrived to do standard shopping. Unfortunately, I arrived at this location. Went through the checkout process and noted as ususal, as I am looking at my receipt and adding up the math in my head; once again, I am overcharged. There is a gentleman standing in the customer service desk line. As its 7 am, no one is present at the desk. I stand there with the other gentleman (I have no idea how long he was standing there) and waited for 2-3 minutes. Then, a lady comes walking up to the desk, and loudly states "sorry ya'll I had to pee. And I think it froze mid stream since its so cold out" Nice. Really didnt need to know that at 7 am.Once she takes care of him, I handed her my receipt. She then, as every customer service member, manager, employee at Safeway does, with the exception of the younger kids who dont care, starts to challenge the missing discounts not on my receipt, on my ad, which did not get honored. I ended up putting things back that the app would not honor, much to my irritation, and went to another Safeway, to get the same sale items, on a different phone number, where I could effectively add them to my app without being called a liar and assumed a theif. If you think those words are too strong, I can assure you, Wal-Mart is more forgiving with honoring prices, than Safeway. And, at least they have more than one register open, at any given time.Every. Single. Visit. I have to have them adjust items at the checkout or customer service. The app will have a sale and it will come up on my phone; then vanish from the coupons/list when I checkout, without honoring the price. The isles will have stickers, not on the ad or app, not found, but when you take a photo or try to prove the sale is posted, you are met with irritation and annoyance. The best part is when they tell you that you are wrong, and will go to any legths to save a buck i.e. this item was on the wrong shelf (with several other items of the same) so that is not the correct price, that only applies to X. Cool, so why is the label there, with so many of the "wrong items" Waste of time. Every. Single. Time.
