BEWARE - The owner of this store has in place the stupidest and most anti-customer policy I have ever seen. On its surface, you the reader might not agree with me, but if you think about it in terms of money lost to the owner versus the money of future sales lost to the owner, I think you'll agree that this policy is simply a slap in the customers' face:
If you break it, you buy it.
First off, I have no issue with this kind of policy for any kind of store that is selling high-end, delicate, antique, custom, whatever sorts of products. I totally get it. And frankly, if this was a 400 ft² store with all of 300 bottles in stock, I wouldn't bother writing this review because it is very economically difficult to stay afloat with a business that small. And losing your stock to breakage rather than getting it sold would potentially make a bit more of a difference in your bottom line.
But here we are talking about a very large liquor store, easily 10,000 ft² or more, with thousands and thousands of bottles. Meaning that the loss they would take for one bottle being broken is truly insignificant. And yes, I realize that a bigger store would have more potentially broken bottles on any given day than a small one. But they would also have an equally great dur amount of sales volume. So it really does come down to is the breakage of one bottle worth the potential loss of one repeat customer.
There are a couple of other factors at play here which make me feel the need to write this review. For starters, the policy makes no allowance whatsoever for the value of the broken bottle. Meaning it does not kick in only if the bottle broken is worth, say, $50 or more. Secondly, the policy does not allow for a bottle broken in the most truly accidental of situations to be dealt with any differently than a bottle broken by, say, a group of somewhat drunk 20-year-olds screwing around and knocking something off a shelf.
Either way, you broke it, you buy it.
And for that matter, the implementation of the policy doesn't address things like a bottle being broken by the wayward wag of a dog's tail or you knocking a bottle off the shelf after being bumped by some other customer that you don't even know. Oh and by the way, they do allow and very much encourage people to bring dogs in, greeting them with smiles and feeding them treats.
(For the record, my situation was the one with the wayward dog tail).
So being new in town, I wasn't known that well there yet, but I checked my own receipts and I'd already spent on average $380 per month for the last 3 months there. And now not only will I not shop there anymore, I'm going to share my humble opinion with the rest of you that you ought to avoid this store as well. Do I think you're going to break something and therefore have to pay for it? Probably not. But the point is, you have plenty of other options in Canon City for liquor stores. Why would you want to reward with your patronage the option that would rather collect their $14.99 for the bottle that your dog broke, than continue to have you come in spending hundreds of dollars per month?
It is simply the most short-sighted and asinine customer service policy I can ever recall encountering.
