I like this place overall for my needs. I use the pool and hot tub a lot, and it’s close to home. I do wish they had a heavy bag. And the space is cramped overall. It’s outdated. My only real critique would be the weekend operating hours. To close at 2pm- the middle of the day- just seems totally backwards to me. Obviously mainly because people work all week, and have weekends free. Shouldn't it have full hours open on the weekends? When people want to use the facility? Baffling. Why not close for a few hours in the dead hours midweek? I believe it is a budgetary problem. But still makes no sense. Last comment is that staff could smile more.. A couple employees look like they hate it there. A smile and a “How can I help you?” would go a long way.

Love visiting for a walk! Really have got to love South Boulder rec center, and the surrounding park. It's situated right next to beautiful Viele Lake. You can use large parking lots on either side of the lake. I've only been inside to vote, but they have a large gym and other rec center things. Nice tennis courts to the east side. And a huge frisbee golf course! South, you get a large lake full of nature. I love the pathways around the area. There's a ton of birds, I've seen Comorant there! The lakes provide a beautiful mirror reflection of Bear Peak and Green Mtn. It's quite stunning on a still day, even better for a sunrise or sunset. It's a very level path and paved around. A beautiful bridge compliments the scene. This is definitely a hidden gem in Boulder!

Recreational center is cool. I’ve only played pickleball there. Very fun but can be bullish when it comes to new players Especially when it comes to players in color. I’ve only seen two of us out here so any frequent players of these courts know that it’s the new one who is writing this review. For the last month I have been playing free pickle-ball at South Boulder recreation and have watched all rules of pickle-ball being followed down to paddles being in the bin to spiking in the kitchen. All rules are followed except when a frequent players don’t want to play with players they don’t know and just skip them when games have finished , and paddles are in the bin. But if I as the new “Ninja” on the South Boulder Recreation center free pickle ball court if I spoke up on rules that are only followed by those who govern them I would be the big Black “Ninja” that they would say was wrong, aggressive and to loud. So to keep from going to jail in which I have never been!!! I will keep my Black Assets from these free pickle ball courts that don’t welcome in new “Ninjas” that are not from jail….. Any Ninjas that read this stay away!!

I love the South Boulder Rec Center, but I keep hearing from the rec center staff that it doesn't have the same visitation as the other centers! So finally do a major upgrade and give us what North and East have. Then you will have more people using the center!! Come on! We have the community and it is time that you took care of South!!

It’s terrible how paltry the offerings have become for drop-in classes in the Boulder Rec. system. Boulder is known to have a bloated bureaucracy ( by city size comparisons ). Citizens might be willing to overlook this if they are able to obtain plentiful and high quality services. This isn’t so, certainly not in recent years, and hiding behind progressive slogans for basic failures makes things even more annoying.(BTW The potholes in my street are at third world levels).

I’ve been coming here often over the past year or so and plan to continue. This is my favorite of the three city rec centers in Boulder! The layout is nice and the building itself is an architectural gem, next to excellent outdoor facilities and the beautiful Harlow Platts park. I only wish there were weekend hours.

It is small but good. Nice lake with sidewalk around it. The disc golf is fun, the outdoor volleyball is well kept for Colorado. The pool is small but well kept. Same for the workout area.

Nice facility and very nice staff (thank you, Megan and Sam!). I just wish the pool were open more than one hour a day, and I wish that they were open on the weekends.

This place is the step child of the boulder parks and rec franchise. It's Never been maintained, cared for or invested in by BPR. Almost seems like Boulder City thinks ignoring it will somehow solve the problem.Equally disappointing is the lack of south boulder community involvement in wanting the city to nourish this resource for the local community residents. I think it's because of the turn over in south boulder house to the well heeled crowd who would rather invest in pelotons or CAC then be seen at this community center.

The most beautiful, wonderfully outfitted gym I've ever used. Needs more dedicated pickleball courts!

I took a tour of the place inside it provides most of the recreational activities that I enjoy. Basketball, indoor gym, outdoor beach volley ball, tennis. Not to mention the beautiful out door scenery of the lake and the flatiron mountains.

Great for a public rec center. Reasonable set of weight machines, bikes and treadmills. Busy times can be a challenge to get on exercise machines
