Giving two stars as a quilting store. Had I been shopping for apparel fabrics, I’m sure they’d have scored higher. Very disappointed as a couple of people had recommended the store knowing I sew a LOT and I was coming to Boulder. They had a couple of other customers in the store buying apparel fabric, but were not slammed by any means. They asked what I needed and the word “quilter” must have turned them off because they pointed to the front of the store and ignored us after that. We heard them fawning over the other customers so I know they know customer service, but that must be reserved for people buying apparel fabric. The quilting fabric selection was ok, but it doesn’t even compare to my store at home. So yes do go if you are making a dress, but I’d shop online before I’d go back there.

The service and selection are excellent. Staff ask customers to wash their hands so they don't have damaged or dirty fabric on display. Can't emphasize how much I appreciate this.

Well, after walking into this establishment, my husband and I still wondering what happened and why. To be clear, no other customers were in this store. I think I know why.
We were first greeted by a sweet younger woman who made us feel welcome.
IMMEDIATELY following the warm welcome an older Caucasian woman asked both my husband and I, if we would mind stepping into their bathroom to wash our hands. My first thought was, why and I've never used or experienced a bathroom at a fabric store. You have to walk under a construction zone tunnel just to get to this store. We were already hesitant to even walk in the door.
My husband is Swiss. He has darker skin and looks more Italian. We've traveled all over the world. We have traveled to many establishments, fabric stores, museums in, to name a few, London, Paris, Rome. Not one of them has ever asked us to step into some bathroom to "wash our hands". I guess it needs to be said that our hands were perfectly clean.
What if I had brought my Native American niece or my African American cousin to this store?! You CANNOT talk to customer's this way. More than offensive and unacceptable. Provide hand wipes! Put up a sign! Even ask everyone who enter to wear gloves.
They don't require stepping into a bathroom at The Louvre or the Vatican, but maybe your establishment is under the impression that it is more significant? If it is that important you should really provide a free of charge professional hand washing experience before entering the odd construction tunnel before the entrance of your establishment. If your fabrics are that special, then that would certainly work out better for your company than having an older Caucasian woman ask your customer's to 'step into your BATHROOM.
I will let everyone I know about our disgusting experience.

Went in looking for some dynamic fabric for a photo shoot set design and the owner was wonderful and very helpful! Within 30 minutes, the materials were all sourced and I left very happy! I highly recommend Elfriede’s Fine Fabrics!

Omg if you are lucky enough to live near this fabric shop in Boulder run don’t walk to get there. They have the most beautiful fabrics and their buttons are drool worthy! My son was creating designs for his application portfolio to New York and Paris fashion Universities. After spending last summer in Paris once he found this shop he said this was like being back in Paris. The best part about the shop are the lovely ladies working there who are so helpful. The fabrics brought his designs to life! If you are from out of town do pop in if you love to quilt or sew

My habit is to stop by local fabric shops when I travel. This place has the best selection I’ve seen. I love it, will return.

I've had the most splendid priveledge to have shopped over the last 20 yrs at Elfrieda's. I'll not darken the doorway again though. Over a pair of Ghingar shears, after all. Over 20 years, the joy of working with the natural fibers, and spending close or over $10,000 in Elfrieda's establishment. I came in to return the shears. Of course, came out of the bathroom to be faced in an accussary way. As to what this return was. (I had left the shears at the register). Being then treated like a fentynol Boulder tramp. I was most certainly agreeable to an exchange. Elfrieda herself has cut most of the beautiful pieces that I've purchased in the last few years. She in fact plucked those exact shears out of storage to sell them to me.The horrifying contrast in Elfrieda's behavior is enough to keep me out.I'll shop Mood Fabrics in NYC. For as much as I've spent in Elfrieda's, I can fly to New York City to fulfill my fine fabric addiction
