Surprisingly, my salad was the star. And my husbands fish dish was attractive and tasty also. Waiter was helpful with wine selection. The other folks with us all ordered beef, usually a great choice at a steakhouse. They were all satisfied but not impressed. Several felt theirs were overcooked. This was the end of the season for them. Last weekend before shutting down till ski season. Maybe that factored in.

We went to The Monarch with great expectations after being recommended by our hotel. And this restaurant did not disappoint by serving us some of the best steak we have ever had. Jon Q was a great server and made sure we had a wonderful dinner. Table side Caesar is a must and do not miss the green peppercorn sauce. We had the eye of the rib eye. Perfect temperature and perfect taste.

This was a great spot in Aspen for a delicious steak or some fresh fish. We took our adult kids and we all had a great meal. Small, quaint, charming with delicious food and lovely service. Along a Main Street in downtown Aspen. Indoor seating only.

The food was good. The quality was also good, but I do think it was overpriced and for some reason it took almost 45 minutes to get the main entrée. Not sure I would go back again since there are many good quality restaurants less expensive It did seem to be possibly understaffed at that time in the cooking kitchen

We were charged $200 for a missed reservation (due to our flight being canceled). We called the restaurant to see if they would rebook our reservation for another day and they asked us for a credit card for another deposit. After explaining what a travel nightmare we had getting into Aspen, CO, the receptionist said she would check with the manager to see if they could apply the $200 to our future meal. She called back and said they could not make an exception. I have eaten at the restaurant several times before and even attended an NYE dinner party there, but we will never return. We have an extensive group of friends that go to Aspen every year, and with so many great restaurants in town, I would avoid this one! I find it interesting that they would rather have our $200 than several thousand dollars from our future dinners. The manager must not have taken Economics 101!

We recently ate at Monarch. We used to like it, but this last visit was probably our last. We were about 7 minutes late for our reservation, and the first thing the hostess said to us was that we would still have to be out of there in the timeframe allotted to us. Bad start to the night. We had 2 bottles of wine (about $100 each), 3 steaks, 1 fish dish. The fish was overcooked, and none of the steaks were properly cooked. My girlfriend ordered medium well, and it was bleeding on the plate. My husband said his steak was barely "marginal", my fish was dry. We had a couple of sides, Ceasar salad (always good there), and split a dessert. For $800 I expect someone to know how to cook a steak and fish. Who wants to spend $800 and be told right when you walk in you have to leave at a certain time? I understand there are 2 seatings, but there are other ways to handle this more in line with the type of restaurant. It's not Chilis.

Unfortunately had a terrible experience while dining here for dinner. Received an overcooked and extremely over salted/seasoned Kansas City strip steak that was inedible. Politely let my server know, he apologized and assured me they’d bring me a new one quickly. A manager came out with a different steak that I did not order (ribeye). I let them know of the error, which was bad at the time but forgivable as anyone can make a mistake. After scurrying to a computer to check what I had previously ordered and then running back into the kitchen to apparently speak with the chef, the manager then came to my table to tell me I was mistaken and that it was a Kansas City strip. I let him know that was ridiculous and told him the 2 obvious differences between the steaks, such as the bone location (chunk vs long strip) and the fatty crown/cap a ribeye has. His response was “well that’s how we cut it here”. An obvious lie which was unnecessary and really pissed me off. Save your money and go elsewhere. This was the worst fine dining experience we’ve ever had in Aspen during our 10 years of visiting. The duck and Parisian gnocchi were also quite bad. Topped of by insulting management who can’t own up to their kitchen’s mistakes.

My wife and I occasionally visit Aspen from the Vail Valley for memorable meals. This was a late celebration of our anniversary. I found The Monarch to be a wonderfully intimate, high end steakhouse, with outstanding service. the staff were all friendly and attentive. I ordered the cowboy ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. My only reason for four stars- I had the Stilton bleu cheese topper on my steak, which really overpowered the steak. Once I removed part of the large handful of cheese, the steak and cheese married beautifully. Pricey, but worth it!

My husband and I visited Aspen and we were lucky enough to get a recommendation for this spectacular restaurant, one of the best one we have ever been at. We had spectacular Caesar salad both times, together with oysters, and Mac and cheese. The only thing we missed was maybe having a meal with truffles, and more choices of champagne per glass. Thank you, wonderful experience.

the waitstaff were superb. The were prompt, responsive, courteous and professional. I can't say enough about our service! And the food was fantastic. We had the scallops as an appetizer and a butcher's block cut of beef. It was cooked to perfection. And the wine list is quite decent. We had a Bordeaux by the glass and it was very good. Afterwards, I asked if they had Pappy's. They had Pappy's 10, 12 and 15 year old. We have had the 10 yo and 23 yo. So we had the 15 yo, and it held it's own against the others we have had. delicious. It held it's own against the others we have had. Note: this restaurant was quite expensive, but worht it.

Best steak I can remember: ribeye was eye crossing. This is months after eating there.
