I used to live in Yuba City. WinCo was my go-to grocery store. I decided to stop at WinCo on my way home, as I travelled through Yuba City tonight because they’re lean cuisines and Yasso bars are cheaper than any other stores, so I wanted to stock up on my favorites.
I had approximately 30 lean cuisines (three different flavors) and 12 boxes of Yasso (all the same flavor). I attempted to check myself out at the self-checkout lane - as I usually do when I shop there. However, as I was preparing to open the bags, a gentleman managing the self-checkout lane, abruptly stopped me. He said to me, “you have too many items for the self-checkout.” I replied, “are you serious - I always use the self check out here and have had more items than I do tonight.“ He then told me that he had already been “yelled at about it twice today.” I told him I didn’t understand why it was an issue considering there is no line, and there are eight checkouts and only two were being used?? He then told me I needed to take my cart to a regular checkout line. I told him it was absolutely ridiculous and I proceeded to a check out lane, where all of the registers had very long and slow moving lines.
Another gentleman approached the closed register next to me, so I walked up to him and requested a manager. I proceeded to explain to him what happened at the self-checkout and his response was, “well, if you have too many items, then you have to check out at a register. It was then I noticed the sign above the self-checkout that says, “about 15 items.” Then, instead of him notifying me that he was opening the register and asking me to bring my cart over, he proceeded to call a manager and opened his register to someone else, who had just approached the check out lanes, and hadn’t been waiting in line for 12 minutes, like I already had. Then, when the manager approached his register, he told her I requested to speak with her, but instead of addressing me, she called for more cashiers, then walked off toward the office. Thankfully, a gentleman named Daniel opened his register and graciously checked my groceries, but by that time, I could’ve been halfway home.
I understand why they offer an “about 15 items,” but considering that a significant amount of people, who “qualify” to self-check, choose to check out with a cashier and therefore congest the lines for those with more than “about 15 items,” maybe their policy should allow for a couple of the self-checkout registers to be designated for those with more than “about 15 items,” who prefer to self-check rather than wait in the ridiculously long and slow moving lines!?
Do better!! ?

I love shopping at WinCo! Every time I go there, it makes me genuinely happy. The atmosphere is welcoming, and I always feel like a local when I’m there. The staff is friendly and helpful, making my shopping experience enjoyable. WinCo offers a great selection of fresh produce, bulk items, and everyday essentials at unbeatable prices. It’s always a pleasure to find everything I need in one place while feeling like part of a community. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic grocery store experience!

I could put a 0 I would, I have been discriminated against in this store by one of their workers, I have gone to file a complaint with customer services and I have received the same, good prices but bad people and workers, I will file my complaint at the corporate offices of winco and where appropriate because as a taxpayer in California I have the right to report the abuses of people who think that because they were born in the USA they have the right to discriminate against a Latino.

Great place to get your late-late night groceries. Great customer service. Also when you get to Winco late late at night like around 11pm to so on. Make sure you go all the way until you see aisle 10. Because they're nightshift stacking boxes are blocking aisle 1 thru 11. Also forgot there's an employee forgot his name but he's a cool dude.

I stopped in quickly for a sandwich and then out and on my way. The store is dingy and just doesn't feel "clean." Only cash or debit cards are allowed for purchases (no credit cards).
