Took my VW in with an orange "check-engine" light on. Car didn't pass (probably because of the light). He reset the light and told me to fill up with top grade gas and drive around for 3 days and bring it back and it would be $40 for a retest after paying $72 for the first "fail" test.
I did that and come to find out it would be $137 for the retest and diagnosis. The receipt plainly says they aren't supposed to diagnose.
I balked at paying so much so he got huffy and told me he wasn't going to charge me anything and just leave. So I did. Looking for another place to test now.

I needed to take my Prius in for smog check and have gone to another smog check station in the past. They were closed today so I called and made an appointment with Payless Smog Center to bring my car in this morning. When I drove my car in, I met Andy who was very direct and blunt (in a funny way); it cracked me up. He was super efficient and smog check was done really quickly. I'll be coming back here for all my cars in the future.

Very fast and very reasonably priced. I called to make an appointment for a smog check and there was one available same-day. I was in and out within literally 5 minutes--they work super fast. I'll be coming back next time I need a smog check.

Avoid him or you'll wish you didn't. I went to him because I read high reviews when I got there he said my car failed. He threw away the reading thing and it said it failed for a lean engine issue I paid $50 for five minutes of service. He told me to drive it 200 miles and come back. I took it to a mechanic and the mechanic told me there was nothing wrong with that code or the sensor. I took it back to him it passed, but I was there another five minutes and he charged me $120 and when I asked him why it was another $120 on top of the 50 he said it was for resetting something and he charged me $70 so I paid a total of $170 for a total of 10 to 15 minutes. When I was there the second time and the first time he did the same thing to two other people. I think it's a scam, I also took it to the mechanic and the mechanic talk to him and then he was upset with me for having the mechanic talk to him.

Quick & easy. It was the first time to get the smog test. I'm so surprised that it just took a couple minutes to get the test done! * Look for a deal if available. I claimed the yelp deal ($49.70). You need to add the state certificate ($8.25) to total, FYI.
