I have been sewing for about a decade. I have a ton of vintage and antique sewing machines that I have been able to repair myself. I'm pretty handy like that. Recently, I had the opportunity to buy a Bernina Artista. It worked well until I tried to do a simple zig-zag stitch and was just getting one single row of straight stitching. Computerized Berninas are not something I feel comfortable trying to repair myself. I decided to bring it in, having never been to this place. While there, the young man at the counter filled me in on what I already knew about the temperamental, outdated Artista. He recommended a used Virtuosa they had for sale. It was very fairly priced. I knew I needed a daily machine that I could just use with no problems or fussiness. I went back and bought it because after trying a Bernina, you really don't want to use any other brand. The stitch quality really is the best. It's not just hype. I just have no plans on dropping thousands for on of the new Berninas. I have used my Bernina Virtuosa every single day, since I bought it, 3 months ago. I am so glad I went in. It has given me zero problems. They also have a ton of QUALITY thread. I learned early on that cheap thread (from Joann) is not worth the spool they wrap it on. The sewing machine shop has Metler and Aurofil and I don't have to wait for an online order to come in or try to color match online. The prices for sewing machine service are very fair. I will continue to rehab and repair old machines myself, because I love doing so but for all Bernina-related service and accessories, I highly recommend this place.

I was told machine would be ready in a week. I hadn't heard anything so after 10 days I went down. Machine was ready but embroidery function could not be tested because of a lack of a hoop. So my machine sat there. I was told when I brought the machine in they had no hoop. I should have brought one but at 83 years old, I'm not as sharp as I once was. This is a Janome authorized repair facility. No hoop? So when I told the young man who waited on me that I was told that the machine would be ready in a week he had to know who said that. I told him 2 people told me but I didn't ask for ID. So, after some debate (felt like a college debate match) my machine was ready (?). I paid the 140.00 and learned a valuable lesson. "You can't judge the quality of workmanship by reviews and past experience." I'll find another place to buy supplies and get service.

I was looking for a straight stitch machine and after some research, had my sites set on a Juki. I didn't want to order it from the internet, even though the model I chose is available from internet dealers. I called the Sewing Machine Shop to ask some questions, and they answered all of them. I drove the hour there, and they encouraged me to demo the machine -- letting me explore and learn everything about it. "We are happy to answer any questions by phone, but you live far away, and we want you to feel comfortable with the machine before you buy it." Not only that, the price was the absolute best around. One thing to know -- call them about the price to double check. It's worth the inquiry. I'm really happy with this little work horse, but even happier with the service I received.

This place is great! I bought my sewing machine in to have the tension adjusted, and the button hole sensor looked at. Initially they told me it would be a week, but they got it done in less than a week and at a fair price. They checked the button hole sensor but didn't have a problem, but still offered to set up the machine in the shop and have me try it out. I didn't have time to do that so they told me to bring it back if I have any more problems with it. Everyone was helpful, friendly and professional. I highly recommend The Sewing Machine Shop!

Dan spent several hours working on my machine and ultimately determined it wasn’t worth the cost of fixing. He didn’t charge me anything for the time and was honest with me about what options would be best for me. Honest, affordable, and very friendly and helpful. Not a common combination!! Highly recommend!

This little shop is amazing! I have been considering a new sewing machine since mine is from the 80’s. Its impossible to get a sense of the machines available out there by only looking on the internet. So, I popped over to see if I could test out some and boy, am I glad I did! They have a whole showroom of the latest and greatest machines that range from low-mid price range all the way up to the top of the line models of sewing, embroidery and overlock machines as well as a small selection of pre-owned options. And you can test them all!The folks who work there are very personable and know their stuff! I was helped by a nice woman who I did not get the name of and a man named Cale (sorry if the spelling is not correct). All I had to do was say that I am looking for a machine with certain features and a price point and I was set up with a few to play with right away. I was able to ask questions freely about them and get a feel for them so I could decide which one is for me. There was absolutely no pressure to purchase - just a desire to answer questions and help you figure out what machine is right for you.Im still deciding what model to go for but I will for sure be back to purchase it here when I do! Prices are fair and a purchase of a machine even comes with a little intro class which is really neat.I’ll be back! :)

I have worked with Dan and his outstanding staff for over 10 years. During that time I have bought various sewing machines, embroidery machines, and longarm quilting machines, frames and software from The Sewing Machine Shop. I so appreciate that Dan carries a wide variety of makes and models from top-notch companies. He and his sales staff are dedicated to selling you the equipment you need, rather than being limited to a single brand. Dan and his technicians are so knowledgeable on machine upkeep, maintenance and problem-solving. His team will do what it takes to fix any problems, but more importantly, keep your expensive machine investments in tip-top condition in order to avoid more costly repairs. Customer service is provided with respect and courtesy. Phone calls and emails receive prompt replies. I have also taken many instructional seminars and technique classes over the years, and the instructors are very knowledgeable and talented in their teaching skills. My husband and I own our own small businesses, and we really understand and appreciate all the hard work that goes into running a successful and customer-focused business. The Sewing Machine Shop is definitely all that! Dan and his team will do what it takes to serve their clientele with premiere products and service.

This shop is amazing!!! They have a large variety of sewing machines at different price points, knowledgeable staff, all the accessories and thread you could think of. They aren't trying to oversell you for what you need, you can buy refurbished machines. They offer classes and lab times for beginners. You can finance for a nicer machine instead of paying it all up front. You can try out the machines and see how they function easily. I was also told that they do trade ups if you buy a more basic machine now and want something fancier later.Just old school really pro shop. You go here and you know you'll be taken care of human to human within your means. I wish there were more places like this around. Trustworthy dealer

Waiting to buy a new machine for mate or self? Do it already, buy local, get a personalized advice and support. Soooo glad I did not buy online, not lured by lower price. Lucky I called, got same online price, PLUS home delivery with setup of that Juki miyabi (looked complicated), also got after purchase support. I sound like an ad writer, all is sincere. So happy to have a gem of support for my machine here in Walnut Creek.Regarding repairs...It is expensive yes. Labor is expensive. Listen to expert advise. If you're machine is inexpensive, you'll be advised that cost of repair is more or close than new one. Almost same as deciding to buy new or used car (ask for available used machines from their trade offs) . Take Dan's honest advice or leave it. My Janome ran better after service than out of the box. Good help is worthwhile.
