My husband's wedding ring had to be removed because an accident caused his ring finger to swell, especially around the knuckle. The ER doc carefully cut the ring off of his finger and gave it back to him. In celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary this September, I wanted to get a new ring for my husband, since he has been without one for almost a year. He convinced me that he loved his old ring and wanted to see if it could be re-sized (so it would fit over his knuckle) and repaired. In the past, under the ownership of Brad and Netta Milner, every experience I had with Milner's was a good one. They were professional, honest, knowledgeable and helpful, always greeting me by my name and making me feel welcome. I trusted them and actually bought a 1-carat diamond, amethyst earrings and other pieces of jewelry from them. The items were always of high quality. I was aware that the shop had been sold to Stephen Ware, but I decided to give them a try with the ring repair. Big mistake. First, after they gave me a quote, they called a few days later and said they needed to charge more. During the phone call, I requested a master goldsmith do the repair, instead of the two apprentices who work in the store. I was assured that Stephen or another goldsmith would do the work and make the ring look "like new." When we picked up the ring (after I had to call twice to see if it was ready), it did not look or feel smooth, especially on the inside, and the gold color did not match where the resizing had been done. It had a grayish tone to it. I showed it to my husband and then showed it to the 2 people working in the shop. One of the apprentices said he "did half the work and my co-worker did the other half." When asked whether he did it with Stephen or another master jeweler, he backpedaled and said he didn't remember. Obviously, the ring had been repaired by the 2 apprentice co-workers, not senior staff as I had been promised. When I said I would like to have someone more senior work on it a bit more, I was told that there would be an extra charge for any extra work. The apprentice offered to take the ring apart, keep the additional gold, and give it back to me, with no acknowledgment or apology about its less than pristine condition. At that point, my husband said he would just keep it, so we left with the ring. In my view, the customer service was deplorable, and they clearly had no desire to make me happy without insisting that I would have to pay more. Needless to say, we had many other options. However, because of my past very satisfactory experience with the original owners, I decided to give the new owners a try. What a shame that Milner's has had to compromise its reputation under the new ownership. I will never visit this store again.

The service here is amazing! I have got a lot of jewelry fixed here, including watches, cufflinks, and necklaces. One of my necklaces keeps getting tangled, and the ladies here have been incredibly helpful, fixing it for me several times, once even for free!

If I could give zero stars, I would. When a friend of mine recently had a negative experience with this Jeweler, I decided I should share my experience. I took a ring that contained several stones in to be sized. When I picked it up, the fire opal was missing and I was told it disintegrated while being cleaned. They had not replaced the stone. I took the ring anyway. There was a seam where the ring had been cut to size it and the gold was so thin that the band broke while I was wearing the ring. The band twisted causing injury to my finger. I took the ring back to be fixed. The owner, Steve Ware, called me a couple of months later to tell me he expected me to pay for the repairs, and I could come pick up the ring. He was very rude and shouted at me because I expected him to rectify the poor work on the ring at no additional cost. When I arrived at the store, the ring had not been repaired and the stone was still missing. I left it on the counter and he followed me out of the store shouting at me. He placed my ring on the curb and stood there. I left it there, got into my car, and started to drive away. My windows were down, so he picked up the ring and pitched it into the car through the open window. His interaction with me was always aggressive and condescending and frankly, a little scary. This man owns two stores, Milner's in Walnut Creek and Ware Designs in Lafayette. I would not recommend doing business with either store.

The staff is so friendly and honest. They are able to answer any questions you might have or get back to you with answers in a reasonable amount of time. They have a great selection of bridal, engagement rings, as well as great gift ideas with a wide variety of price points. The best place in town to have jewelry repaired or custom jewelry made. Did not disappoint!
