We came here in the hopes of adopting a doodle. Unfortunately a line had formed for the dog we went to look at at 9am, and it was adopted out before we could meet it.
Nonetheless, we were highly impressed by all of the following:
• They don't discriminate against those of us who aren't rich enough to own our own house and have a yard. This is a huge breath of fresh air.
• They clearly know and care a lot about their dogs, with a vet visit, vaccinations, and neutering/spaying already finished before they even list the dog.
• Adoption prices are very affordable.
It's worth noting that if the dog/breed you're looking at is in high demand you'll have to show up very early to have a chance at adopting it. Three people had already lined up at 9am for a chance to meet the puppy we came to look on the very first day that it was available (their doors open at noon). This is simply the downside of a first-come first-served basis, and is definitely worth it given that it makes adoption of uncommon breeds available to those of more modest means.

These are good people with good intentions. I kind of question the way they do it at times.

I am deeply thankful for the team at Joybound.
When I faced a challenging situation with my adopted dog (not the fault of the dog at all), Ursula was incredible. She called me several times and spent almost an hour on the phone, offering professional, understanding, supportive, and caring advice. Ursula was like a therapist during this difficult time, always looking out for the best future of the dogs. She kept me informed every step of the way, offering valuable advice and reassurance.
The staff I interacted with during my visits were equally compassionate and caring. One staff member even shared a heartfelt moment with me, which meant a lot to me during such a tough time.
My previous experience with the fostering team was also wonderful. They provide the best care possible for these pups with so much personal attention.
Joybound is not an average shelter. I respect and admire the work they are doing. The dedication and care they provide give me confidence that dogs under their care will have the best futures.
If you are considering adopting a pet, I highly encourage you to visit Joybound. The staff’s dedication and the exceptional care they provide ensure that every animal has the best chance at a loving home.

The best staff, and doctors! They understand. They care. And they provide. Above and beyond!!! They are a true gift to Contra Costa County & the Bay Area. Go see them. They'll answer your questions, and assist you to their best ability. My littlest Jack Russell Terrier had a Testicular Tumor removed April 19th. They treated him with very good care. And as of today he's doing very well. No after-surgery vomiting, no stomach irritation from the prescribed meds. He's awesome! And I owe it all to Joybound!!

What an incredible place for pets to get adopted. Beautiful, clean, nice gift shop and soon to have grooming! They also have a veterans assistance program for service dogs. Lovely gardens!

These people are the most judgemental, self serving, act like they are doing the world a favor type (well sorry just one in particular). They don't help the community out like when Tony Larussa had his people actually in charge of it. He had compassion and a heart, now the bottom line is their all mighty dollar, im sure that's what it is. When you have a personality clash usually you can talk with someone else but this person won't allow it, she is the almighty and what she says goes. She made up absolute lies, said things that were completely untrue (but in her mind maybe they were but I have proff what was said was through text) I can't even speak to anyone else. The one person who truly knows is not with them anymore. So I have no choice but stop dealing with the same people I've been with since the early 90's because of one person with a God complex in a place that is supposed to have compassion and did for many many years until she came aboard 3 years ago. So sad that someone who is disabled and can't get around can't get help for her deceased child cat because of one person. I even told her I would probably need to surrender the cat because i couldn't care for it properly and she didn't care at all. How is that for community service and compassion? Please don't donate to people like this, put your dollars and donations somewhere they will truly matter. I'm sure the adoption side of things are very helpful (at least I would pray that they are) but don't rely on the food share program to help in your time of need especially with this person in charge of that program

Such a wonderful place! I adopted my wonderful cat,Tessa, from them 12 years ago and have loved that little fur ball every second. Careful matches between adopters and pets, very helpful behavior advice, clean environment and friendly staff, not to mention a great veterinarian team. We now live in Arizona but always support and follow this stellar rescue.
