For the most part, this lodge and its rv park were not kind. We stayed in the rv park for 3 nights. The check-in went well. The rv park is in a convenient location but is nothing great. It's essentially a gravel lot with hookups and a few common areas.. The outside bar was seasonally closed, The laundry room has old, rusty machines, and there are no showers. One evening, we went into the lodge for drinks. We and the local lodge members were asked to go into a separate room from the bar as an event was taking place. It's an understandable request. However, we were the only two to go into the room where no lights were on, and no drinks were being served from the makeshift bar area (small counter). When we went back out to the main bar area to ask about lights, a trustee told us to stay. Not a minute later, a female approached us and started jabbing her finger into my partner's back, telling us we didn't have permission to leave the other room. #@*$! Physical assault is never ok. Needless to say, we left in a hurry. The next day in the rv park, one of the hostesses yelled and finger pointed at a guest when the guest allegedly broke the rules. This lodge definitely needs some anger management and conflict resolution training. I have never encountered so much hostility in a span of a few days. Unfortunately, there are no refunds given at this rv park, so we stayed until our checkout date.

The star above is a MINUS STAR!!! I thought I would give the Vista Elks RV park their 'last' try. The first time I visited 2 years ago,..I had informed the host Glenda, that I was a 100% disabled veteran and need to be in a quiet space. She put me in the Wagon Master Spot. People congregated in front of my RV...drinking and being loud late until the evening. Glenda....came and told me my dogs weren't allow to bark....I explained to her that as long as people were directly in front of my RV they were going to bark. The second time I visited, last year, she told me up front that if my dogs barked she would kick me out. As a 100% disabled veteran I am used to being treated slightly better in general....I also explained I was about to have knee replacement. She put me in a site next to two yappy poodles that my service dog barked at when they started barking. It was also just about as far as you could get from the Laundry Room.
I am now in town to see Orthopedic Surgeons...my bones are dissolving in my back. A stranger came and knock on the door this morning, stating she was the RV Host as it was Glenda's day off. She spent a good 5 minutes reading every line of my insurance, registration and Elks Card, and then announced that if my dogs barked I would be told to leave. Once again I was put in a site far from the Laundry Room. When I hobbled to the laundry Glenda was using both machines, and told it me it would be a while. An hour later, when she was finally done, I went and put 2 loads in. When they were done I put them into the dryer and started my towel load. I brushed my terrier while I waited for the wash to finish. The man in the spot to my left came over and banged on my door, telling me that some dog hair was on his mat and I needed to clean it up immediately. He was taking photographs of it with his phone. I apologized and took my broom over and cleaned up all the hair, even from under his RV.....less than the size of a golf ball....meanwhile he went and complained to the stand-in host who came marching over with Glenda. Glenda told me she had a video of my dogs barking from last year, and that I should have brushed my dog in the dog park....next to the laundry. She became angry when I pointed out that was not stated anywhere in the RV Park Rules. She told me to get back in my RV and stay there, or I was going to be thrown out.... I thought about it for a moment and said I had decided to leave, and expected a refund for the 2 days I would not be spending there. I am not accustomed to anyone behaving so rudely. She said there were no refunds, so I told her in that case I was staying for the next two nights .... She then changed her mind and said she would refund them, and to hurry up and get out.....I still had my towels in the washing machine. I took them out WET, and put them in my RV. I then left.
The gentleman and his wife on my other side asked me what had happened. They were astonished at the treatment I received. There are so many wonderful Elks clubs in the county that truly believe in our motto...."Elks Care". The Vista Elks does not.

Had our wedding reception here in 84. Had hired my favorite high school band to play. My father in law was the head cook at this lodge at the time.

Really wonderful as always! It's basically a gravel lot with utilities, but it's the lodge and people that make it so special! Glenda and Esther share the hosting in the RV Park. You'll probably talk to one of them. You'll also probably see Esther's husband, Vincent, around. They're all great people and they work hard to keep the park running smoothly. There is a small dog park, the Swim Step Bar where you may find some live music or a celebration of some kind (the 4th of July party was great fun!) Laundry room, the lounge, indoor and outdoor seating... it's a really great lodge! If you're in need of a friend, stop into the Vista Elks lodge and you're sure to find one. Or more!
