My husband and I got married this past week and the day before the wedding, he really wanted to get his hair cleaned up. A little back story, we've been together for over 6 years and I have never witnessed him get a haircut that he was happy about so needless to say, I was a bit nervous for him. On a whim, we booked an appointment with Greg: a man we saw cutting hair in the window of a rather charming hair salon. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, my husband could not be happier. Greg understood exactly what he wanted and executed perfectly! He was very friendly and by no means "salesman-y" when asked about products. I've worked in a salon before and it's always a huge part of the close out process. Instead he explained that he prefers two products but shrugged and gave us a short cut trick that you could use from home! It made us like him (and respect) him even more. Will definitely be going back!

I feel like I'm going to get flack for this but after having such great experiences elsewhere I really feel like I need to come back to this. I know you can't judge an entire salon based on just a few hair stylists, but I definitely had a bad experience when I went. My stylist was extremely rude. I tried to tell myself it wasn't a big deal but honestly it still bothers me! It made me so uncomfortable. To top it off, my husband actually went here, saw a different stylist, and felt really uncomfortable with her too. He said he felt like she was trying to come onto him based on the conversation they were having. So take that for what you will. It could be absolutely nothing, but deserves to be called out because It feels a bit toxic to me. I'm sure there are some great people who do a good job but I can confidently say our experience was extremely unpleasant and I have every reason to think so. Sorry.

Very cute and quaint salon at the heart of downtown Ventura near and at the same alley as Palm and Boy Coffee. Loved the friendly welcome from everyone as I walked into this lively salon. The wait was only 2 minutes until Aura warmly greeted me. All was a pleasant and amazing experience from the initial pixie hair consult, to washing hair, cutting, and styling. I was very happy with my stylish pixie cut. The hype is real. Aura is brilliant at what she does. Enjoyed the holiday decor of xmas trees, knomes, and more here. Above all, appreciated the zen and relaxing view at the 2nd floor outdoor patio with lots of green succulents and vines near where my hair was washed. Thankful to all and especially Aura who is fantastic. I will return again and again. Happy Holidays and New Year!

Was treated rudely on the phone and told after send pictures of what I wanted done to my hair, and what I my hair currently looked like, and was told that they would get back to me RIGHT AWAY with an answer if the stylist would have time to see me the next day (I needed to be seen right away for my graduation pictures) well, after eagerly waiting (when I could’ve spent that time finding someone else to try to do my hair) it wasn’t until at about 5:30pm that I received a text message (NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL BACK) saying that the stylist wouldn’t have time to do my hair the next day and that they could see me sometime next week. I was so disappointed and desperate I even offered to tip an additional $100 on top of services if they could squeeze me in the next day.I found a better salon last minute that was still open when I called at 5:45pm and she was kind to me, I told her my dilemma and did the same thing, sent her pictures of what my hair looked like, and asked if she could see me the next day and what I was looking for.Well, let me just say, that Matiz Salon was recommended to me by a friend, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.In fact, I’d recommend you take your business to Candy at Hispanso Beauty Salon in Ventura.She overly exceeded my expectations and was willing to squeeze me in last min. And this is what she did to my hair for $260 (but I tipped her well & she threw in some hair products too!) *these hair services were NOT done at Matiz Salon!!!

Had my very curly hair cut by Jaime. He was very certain of what he needed to do to give me a low maintenance, layered ear lobe length cut. I really like it. A lot and he's a lovely guy. Quiet, not Gabby which works great for me. Definitely going back The salon is really charming, stylists all have their own zones inside so it feels calm and seemed quiet. Since I just moved here this was a wonderful find. Price was excellent but mainly I am just so happy with this style and they feature Davines, who's products I love. Very pleased and I recommend him a lot.

I was expecting a simple trim and color but Corey turned my hair into a super-chic, super-flattering style with just a tweak of her scissors! I was stressing about the cell phone that I'd left in the car so I wasn't paying enough attention about my hair. When I eventually retrieved the phone, though, I looked into the car mirror. I was surprised and amazed at how flattering Corey's haircut turned out! It was just PERFECT!

Kresa is AMAZING!! Everyone at Matiz is so welcoming and friendly. Moving here recently I was worried I wouldn't find a good let alone great hair magician... but I literally hit the jackpot!

I've walked by Matiz countless times over the years and have always been curious about it. I found the relaxed and peaceful setting inside El Jardin makes for both a comfortable and upscale downtown experience. I booked blow dry appointments for my mother and myself, which made for great pampering Christmas treats! Both Morgen and Riley gave us stellar service: our hair looked fantastic and the company was warm and welcoming. Something about supporting a Downtown Ventura business during the holidays made the choice for Matiz the right one! If you're looking for a quick service, this is your spot.

I walked out of Matiz loving my hair 100x more than I already did. I've always kept my hair long so going in to the salon to get a significant cut was a little nerve racking but Kresa did an amazing job. She cut little by little to make sure I was comfortable with the layers. Her opinions on what would look good with my face shape and hair texture were so helpful. 100% recommend

I've been coming here for years! I love this salon and Claudia Soto is a true artist! She's amazing at color, highlights and cutting. She never disappoints. I always look forward to coming in to see her and feel my best when I leave.

It's difficult to leave a great stylist/colorist, but had to find a new one since I moved to Ventura County. Glad I was able to get an appointment at Matiz with Kresa. She did not disappoint. She listened to what I was wanting to see, knew exactly what to do and delivered.
