Adel's shop has been a fixture on Oxnard for decades. His shop provides typically reliable service across a range of repairs, especially smog services. Just BEWARE of a tech named Dan.Had to knock off one star off due to a recent experience. Tech Dan is not a certified mechanic. Apparently the shop uses him part time when it gets especially busy. On the shop's premises, "tech" Dan used the shop's tools and scanner to perform a simple tuneup. Just like another poster's experience, my car was rendered inoperable and ultimately towed home with additional damage.I heartedly recommend Car and Smog, just make sure "tech" Dan does not touch your car. One star deduction.

Messiest shop I’ve ever seen with minimal communication or sense of urgency. The owner is very nice but his employee is very disrespectful and walked away when I asked him a simple question.

Place is sketchy. We were told we'd be seen in 5 minutes but the guy took 30 minutes to meet us even though it was during open hours and nobody else was ahead of us. When he did finally arrive he walked out of his car vape in hand and told us we would be "in and out in 10 minutes." Didn't trust him so we left.

UPDATE: Since I picked up my car from Adel, it has been at the dealership for the past 2 weeks, repairing damage that he did to my engine. I have now paid the dealership $4,000, on top of the $1,750 that I gave to this place, because Adel ultimately did nothing to the car except to create damage and take my money. Not only that, I now have to take the car to an auto body shop because he broke my passenger side door while he had it for 5 weeks. The waste of time, the extensive expense, the inconveniences of not having a car for 2 months, the emotional distress... This man should not be in business for large mechanical jobs. Small claims court, here I come!

This place may be good for smog checks, but that's about it (hence the 1 star)! DO NOT take your car, and I REPEAT, do not take your car here for anything with a big repair, or any repair for that matter. My car had been with Adel for 5-6 weeks because my check engine light was on when he received it (just after Thanksgiving). 5- going on 6 WEEKS! I picked up the car today, the bill was $1,750 to fix the check engine light and whatever was wrong with the car. The check engine light was off when I drove away, 2 hours later, engine light is back on. I will not be taking my car back for him to fix it. The trust is gone. The past 5-6 weeks have been a horrible and horrendous experience. The lack of communication with Adel over the many weeks, the misleading conversations with no clear answers, the false hope and lies, the complete lack of time management, and absolutely no customer and/or self awareness (he would tell me the car was ready for pick up, but when I showed, it wasnt. Made the trip for nothing. He never even 'thought' to call me and tell me not to come). The emotional daily stress was beyond maddening and extremely frustrating. I so badly wanted to trust Adel ..... I wanted to give him the benefit of the 'daily doubt'. He was referred to me by a very good friend who always had good experiences, but what an idiot I am!Adel "MAY have been" a good mechanic at one time, but not anymore. This place is not quality and does not have high standards and did not do what they said that they would do. Now I am out $1,750..... I feel totally taken. While I am thankful I finally have my car back in my possession after 5/6 very long weeks, unfortunately I am not done with Adel yet (as much as I wish I could be). I am taking him to small claims court. These past weeks have been a waste, and I was taken on a $1750 ride by this place. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS PLACE and the repairs needed.

Adel is a gem of a human. I'm echoing other reviewers that you will be in good hands here. He's very knowledgable, and will explain things to you to educate so you can make the best decision about your car. He won't talk down to you in anyway shape or form, especially if you are not a car expert. He's genuinely curious about all things cars. I have modifications on my car, we had a good chat while he did my smog test. He's Star Certified. I'm a happy customer. Thank you Adel and Car and Smog!

Called in for a very very simple yes/no question and the guy said I had to come by and had a rough zero-personality demeanor. I was 3 minutes away so I just swung by really quick. The guy that slowly swaggered over to me had RBF like you wouldn't believe. He looked at me like he was mad at ME that he hadn't committed suicide yet! Seriously! He said he couldn't answer my question but the boss would be back soon. He didn't go to get him, just let me know he'd be back. I stood there for about 5 minutes and nothing happened so I left. I was kind of terrified for trusting people like that with my car anyway so I'm glad I didn't end up having to roll the dice on them.
