I came here with a group of ladies, I'm not very artistic and honestly don't think I would be able to make anything. The instructor was fantastic, she showed us step by step how to prep. She was very knowledgeable regarding "throwing clay".She even helped us individually with our projects. We each made 2 "bowls". It was a fun and interactive class. We returned to glaze our projects after they were "baked ".It was explained to us how to go about choosing the glaze. ( there is an additional charge to glaze your pottery). You return to pick up your finished product. The only reminder is that you have to return to the studio 3 times, the initial session, the glazing session and then to pick up the item. The activity is extremely relaxing and therapeutic.Enjoyable with a group of friends or by yourself. It's very therapeutic. I would recommend a visit to try your skills !! You might surprise yourself!!

Edit: If what the owners response to me is correct, it seems like an oversight in the communication with staff. I spoke with the teacher who said it would be 2-3 weeks and that they would contact us when it was ready. If that wasn't the case, maybe inform your employees otherwise so people paying their hard earned money aren't left confused and frustrated. Also consider answering your phones during operating hours!A friend of mine treated me to a class here and I was really excited! The class itself was good and the instruction was exactly what I had hoped for, in fact, I've since looked into more pottery classes! However, what's been deeply disappointing, is that it's been over a month since the class and we have had no word about our pieces. We were told 2-3 weeks, it's been well over that. My friend has called and emailed several times trying to find out about when we can pick up our prices, and we have gotten no response. It's an incredibly disappointing outcome, and feels like a deeply unprofessional way to run a business that is an otherwise lovely concept! It feels like a waste of my friends money when we have no access to the fruits of our labor, and all we really ended up getting was dirty hands. Do better, especially considering other reviews have mentioned a similar lack of communication. I want to be able to recommend this spot, but unfortunately I won't be.

Had my first class at Mud Hen Clay and Art Studio and had such a great experience! Jennifer is a great teacher and super encouraging which makes the process and atmosphere so much more relaxing. She did an amazing job at walking around and offering help and words of encouragement to everyone in the workshop. It was a small intimate class size of 6 adults, and Jennifer was able to be super attentive to us all. I highly recommend that beginners - or people interested in trying - sign up for the classes. I will definitely be looking to come back and join for more workshops/classes!

I signed up for 4 classes in throwing on the wheel. The instructor Malia was awesome. I wasn't very good but I had a great time. So much so I brought a friend to the platter dropping workshop. I will be going back.

The shop is very cute and I love the aesthetic. I went with some friends and after booking a session for an hour I believe. Now the 3 stars are for the ceramic teacher. She told us we would make a vase. Cool… she tells us to sketch a vase on a paper and get an idea of what we want. She gave us clay and that was it. She sat next to us and didn’t give any direction, no assistance, no recommendations on what tools we should try and use. She just sat there and barely spoke to us.If I wanted no direction or assistance I would have bought clay and stayed home. I’m guessing maybe it was just our teacher that day. But I won’t be returning. It’s costly to book this, on top of that they won’t give a refund even if you cancel wellIn advance. Idk whats going on with everyone holding deposits permanently. Deposits are meant to give a business some profit if a customer cancels last minute. Not to keep no matter what. Other than that the owner was there and she was very nice, hope everyone else has a better experience than I did moving forward.

I had a great experience at Mud Hen Clay and Art Studio! We booked an appt for two in advance but ended up not being able to make it. I called to reschedule and they were totally okay with me rescheduling to the day of (literally like 2 hours after I called). I felt awful because I had no idea how much it holds them up if I'm late. I got stuck in traffic and ended up being 5 minutes late, but they were very kind about it and went ahead and rolled out my clay for me so I didn't fall behind. The instructor was very knowledgeable, she said she had been working there for 3 years and doing pottery for 4. I flattened out my bowl into a plate on the pottery wheel (it was devastating ) but she managed to save it a little bit to make it a slightly nicer plate, lol.It is a little pricey but I can understand that because of the material cost + time commitment. We made two pieces each for a total of four pieces! We got to then choose what colors we wanted our pieces to be (blue or white) and was told that it'll be one week to dry then they have to fire, glaze, and fire again and our pieces will be ready for pickup in 4 weeks. The class was about an hour. I had lots of fun because I've always wanted to learn pottery and this was my first time on a pottery wheel!

I was so excited to see this place open right by house, since I really wanted to learn pottery. When I went in, right away I was helped out by the nice lady at the front desk. I forgot her name, but she was so sweet and explained the class structure. The class itself was so much fun. The instructor was so helpful and made us go at our own pace, while still teaching us different techniques. I loved it so much that I signed up for another class. Definitely want to do a class series and really learn about wheel throwing!

Cute place to go to and found out they have a pottery class. About to live out my Ghost dreams Friendly staff and we like this place better than the color me mine places all over town. #supportlocalOnly reason we gave this a 4 star and not a 5 is not knowing when to pick up or not being able to receive a call when it's ready. We had to guess and hope that it was ready for pickup.Overall great experience and we will go here again.

My girlfriend planned a pottery date for our six month anniversary, which was so sweet and thoughtful!! I have always wanted to try ceramics, but never got the chance through college due to COVID. I was so excited and loved the entire process. We took a group class and got to make two items. We were taught to make a bowl and then given free reign on the second item. We decided to not risk attempting anything on our own and just made more bowls lol. The instructor was very patient and did well when it came to showing how to do things. I do wish we could've made bigger pieces, as the bowls were the size of sauce dishes lol. The glazing process was the second step. The girl did not explain much before we started, so the pieces didn't come out exactly as we had wanted. That's okay because we still had lots of fun!

This is a very good place, and my daughter loves it very much. She has been studying here for almost two years, and we will continue to do so. I also recommend it to you!

The location of this pottery place is definitely a big factor in me wanting to take classes here even though the prices are not cheap. It's in Old Town Tustin so grab a coffee at Morning Lavender which is a 2 min walk or White Sparrow which is a 3 min walk before or after. I felt like I was in a cute cottage. The proliferation of beiges gives a serene, bright, and open atmosphere. It's a calming environment. Our group started with hand building. We were given a chunk of clay that we molded into a cup and decorated with patterned molds. Then we made bowls on the wheels. The instructor gave a brief example of how to use the wheel but for the most part, we were on our own. The hand building instructions were definitely more in depth.None of the activities were hard though and I felt like most people were there to have fun and not necessarily to make a masterpiece. The only issue we had was that the lady had called to reschedule the class which thankfully we were still able to make.

We decided to have a Team Day here with a small group of coworkers and it was a blast! We learned how to make a piece by hand and also how to use the spinning wheel to make a bowl. Jen was a great teacher and the studio is equipped with everything we needed. Such a fun day - thank you Jen for making our team day extra special! Your studio is welcoming and beautiful - a place I want to come back and visit again and again! I'm so glad you're in Old Town Tustin - it's perfectly fitting and adds a great energy to the little town.
